Merrill D. Christiansen
DURHAM - Merrill D. Christiansen, 75, died Nov. 16, 2001, at his home near Durham.
He was born Sept. 27, 1926, at Durham, the son of Henry and Mattie Christiansen. He was a cattleman and livestock operator, and owned the livestock auction business in Marion, Herington, Council Grove and Salina.
He attended Holy Family Parish, Marion County, and he belonged to the Kansas Livestock Association.
On Sept. 22, 1948, he married Mary Noone at Pilsen. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Tom, Cape Floral, Fla., and Gary, Durham; two daughters, Barbara McDonald, Salina, and Karen Hunter, Centreville, Va.; two brothers, Irvin, Durham, and Carroll, Kimberling City, Mo.; a sister, Geraldine Frick, Durham; and seven grandchildren.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Tampa, with Fathers Paul Oborny and Steve Gronert presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Canton died Nov. 17, 2001, at the Satanta Long Term Care Unit, where she had been a resident for the past four years.
She was born Oct. 13, 1907, at Burlington, the daughter of Solomon and Florence Meade Stuckey. A homemaker, she and her husband opened a small repair shop and filling station. In 1953 they moved to main street and started Davison Groceries, which they ran for 30 years. She also helped start the Satanta Happy Ager site.
She attended the United Methodist Church, Lakin, and was a past member of the Liberal Pancakers Camping Club.
On July 12, 1942, she married Carl Otis Davison at Lakin. He died Aug. 5, 1980.
Survivors include: a daughter, Lois Ann Burks, Satanta; a stepson, Donald, Avon Park, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Kay Johnson, Avon Park, Fla., and Kathrine Miller, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Opal Watson, Hamlin, Texas; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gordon Dale; a daughter, Edith Ann; three brothers, Ernest, Albert and Henry Stuckey; three sisters, Clara Nelson, Pearl McKinley, and Esther Rich; and a step-grandson.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Satanta, with Pastor Ray Tweed and the Rev. Jeff Miller presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. at 8 p.m. Monday, all at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Burial will be in Lakin died Nov. 17, 2001, at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Oct. 12, 1912, at Flush, the daughter of John Joseph and Magdalene Mary Hammersmith Unterberger. A resident of Hoisington since 1978, moving from Manhattan, she was a homemaker.
She attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was a member of the Alter Society, both at Hoisington.
On March 17, 1944, she married Elvin H. Dillon at Camp Polk, La. He died May 16, 1967.
Survivors include: two sons, Roger, Hoisington, and John, Basalt, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Unterberger; and three sisters, Loretta Eckert, Sister M. Victoria Unterberger and Genevieve Unterberger.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Father Pascal Klein presiding. Burial of cremains will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Valley View Memorial Gardens, Manhattan.

Theodore L. Henry
GREAT BEND - Theodore L. Henry, 76, died Nov. 16, 2001, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus, Great Bend.
He was born Feb. 10, 1925, at Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Roy and Hazel Baker Henry. A retired custodian for Great Bend USD 428, he was a 45-year resident of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He belonged to First Church of the Nazarene, Great Bend.
On Nov. 23, 1955, he married Mareah Salt at Clarinda, Iowa. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Tim L., Great Bend, and Ed C. Collier, Shreveport, La.; a daughter, Iris Feltner, Burlington, Ky.; a sister, Merrilee Marshall, Grand Rapids, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Willis, Donald and Eugene Henry.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home, Great Bend, with the Rev. Mark Pennington presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Interment will be in Great Bend died Nov. 17, 2001, at his home in Lyons.
He was born Feb. 5, 1923, at Booker, Texas, the son of Asa and Anna Johnson Kile. A resident of Lyons since 1962, he was a retired welder and maintenance foreman for Enron Corp. He was a U.S. Navy Seabee veteran of World War II.
He belonged to the American Legion, Lyons.
On Nov. 15, 1945, he married Louise Young at Wickenburg, Ariz. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Don, Morris, Ill., and Lyndel, Humble, Texas; a daughter, Mary Jo Leckington, Valley Center; two brothers, Clyde, Beaver, Okla., and Gene Kile, Greensburg; three sisters, Eilene Fisher, Kaufmann, Texas, Wanda Stokes, Elko, Nev., and Roberta Kauk, Leedey, Okla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons, with the Rev. Tom Eastman presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Melvin Reece
SAWYER - Melvin Reece, 70, died Nov. 16, 2001, at Brookville, Ohio.
He was born March 7, 1931, at Sawyer, the son of John and Edith Brubaker Reece. A lifetime resident of Sawyer, he was a retired farmer.
He belonged to the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Sawyer.
On Dec. 1, 1951, he married Neva Marie Kessler at Sawyer. She died Jan. 6, 1988. In May 1991, he married Erlene Brumbaugh at Arcanum, Ohio. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Galen and Merlin, both of Sawyer; two daughters, Wanda Ring, Augusta, and Marilyn Loomis, Enid, Okla.; three sisters, Bessie Boone, Quinter, Fannie Mae McGuire, Alameda, Calif., and Martha Gish, Modesto, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Sawyer. Burial will be in Pleasantview died Nov. 16, 2001, at his home in rural Sterling.
He was born March 20, 1925, at Saxman. A lifetime resident of Rice County, he was a retired truck pusher for Sterling Drilling Co., Sterling.
He belonged to the Sterling Saddle Club, Sterling.
He married Mary Meade. She died Dec. 23, 1963. On April 16, 1976, he married Clydia Edwards at Sterling. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Dick Renollet, Lyons, Don and Chris Stephenson, both of Sterling, and Darren Stephenson, Lansing; two daughters, Cherry Donley, Sterling, and Valerie Bradford, Bowie, Texas; two brothers, Gerald Fenwick, Sterling, and Elmer Fenwick, Hutchinson; two sisters, Ruby Smith, Sterling, and Mary Milton, Lamar, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
