Lucille C. Harris
HAYS - Lucille C. Harris, 90, died Jan. 6, 2001, at St. John's of Hays Nursing Home.
She was born March 31, 1910, at Childres, Texas, the daughter of Lee S. and Lula E. Williams Baker. A longtime Morland resident, moving to Hays in 1980, she was a cook at Morland Grade School, retiring in 1980. She worked as a machinist in California during World War II.
She belonged to United Methodist Church and the Methodist Ladies Quilting Group, both at Morland, and Epworth Towers Ladies Quilting Group. She was a former member of the EHU Extension Homemakers Unit and the Hays Eagles Auxiliary.
On Aug. 26, 1946, she married Avon I. Harris at Dill City, Okla. He died Feb. 1, 1980.
Survivors include: a daughter, Linda Butcher, Hays; a sister, Verna Hurst, Yakima, Wash.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, R.G. Baker.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, with the Rev. Bill Miller presiding. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Morland Cemetery.

Lyman E. Hall
SUBLETTE - Lyman E. Hall, 84, died Jan. 6, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.
He was born June 28, 1916, in Ozark County, Mo., the son of John W. and Myrtle Piland Hall. A Sublette resident since 1926, moving from Iuka, he was a farmer and rancher.
He belonged to United Methodist Church, Sublette, and refereed football and basketball games.
Survivors include: two sisters-in-law, Eltrude and Helen Hall, both of Sublette; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Herman, Raymond and Ed Hall.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Sublette, with the Rev. Mary Al Titus presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette.

Donald 'Donnie' Eugene Starks
Donald "Donnie" Eugene Starks, 52, of Hutchinson, died Jan. 7, 2001, at Hutchin-son Hospital.
He was born Jan. 28, 1948, at Hutchin-son, the son of Nelson Paul and Viola Barnes Starks. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he was a former employee of the TECH Training Center.
He attended Full Gospel Chapel of Prayer, Hutchinson, and was a former member of the Honey Bears Bowling League and Special Olympics.
Survivors include: his mother, Hutchinson; a brother, Robert, South Hutchinson; two sisters, Barbara Hanson and Mary Starks, both of Hutchinson; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Gary Starks.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with the Revs. Kevin Roach and Patricia Widup presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home, Hutchinson.

Jimmie Duane Hicks
SYRACUSE - Jimmie Duane Hicks, 53, died Jan. 6, 2001, at Geary Community Hospital, Junction City.
He was born Jan. 19, 1947, at Dodge City, the son of Truman and Catherine Pittman Hicks. He graduated from high school at Lamar, Colo., in 1966 and graduated from Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Technical School in 1973 as an auto mechanic. A Syracuse resident since 1973, formerly of Goodland, he took early retirement in 1998 from the Kansas Department of Transportation, where he worked as an equipment mechanic.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1971.
On June 19, 1972, he married Susan Marie Rempe at Goodland. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Thomas S., Overland Park, and Timothy, Derby; parents, Goodland; four brothers, Doug, Pueblo, Colo., Galen, Hays, and Mike and Dave, both of Loveland, Colo.; and two sisters, Mary Hicks, Norton, and Sherri Lee, Osborne.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. MST today in Syracuse Cemetery. Friends may call from 8 to 9:30 a.m. MST today at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse.

Alpha J. Kauffman
YODER - Alpha J. Kauffman, 90, died Jan. 6, 2001, at Wesley Towers Ralph Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.
He was born Jan. 10, 1910, in Reno County, the son of John G. and Mary Stoltzfus Kauffman. He was adopted and raised by Dan and Susie Headings. A lifetime Yoder resident, he was a farmer.
He belonged to Yoder Mennonite Church.
On March 27, 1932, he married Ida Bontrager at Yoder. She died April 21, 1993.
Survivors include: three daughters, Norma Martin, Haven, Joyce Brenneman, Martinville, Ind., and Eva Steider, Littleton, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Carl E.; three brothers, Joe, Fred and Alvin; and a sister, Bertha Glick.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Yoder Mennonite Church, with Pastors Darrell Zook and Peter E. Hartman presiding. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Yoder Mennonite Church Friendship Hall. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

WICHITA - Larry A. Hastings, 44, died at his home in Wichita.

Arthur E. 'Jeff' Jeffers
Arthur E. "Jeff" Jeffers, 83, of Hutchinson, died Jan. 6, 2001, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Aug. 1, 1917, at Schenevus, N.Y., the son of Eugene and Nettie Elizabeth Jeffers. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he retired from Carey Salt Co. after 20 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In March 1961, he married Garland Maybelle Gaswint at Hutchinson. She died Sept. 12, 1990.
Survivors include: a son, Paul, Schenectady, N.Y.; and a niece, Bonnie Simkins, Hutchinson.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with Pastor Eldon Smith presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Clair O. 'John' Haltom
ANTHONY - Clair O. "John" Haltom, 75, died Jan. 6, 2001, at Branson, Mo.
He was born Jan. 7, 1925, at Anthony, the son of Thomas and Mary Leslie Haltom. He was a retired office manager for Oil Field Supply Co.
He belonged to Forsyth Community Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, Order of the Eastern Star Hayworth Chapter, the 109th Evac Hospital Association, was Past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 247, Chase, was a past Boy Scout leader and was past secretary of Western Kansas API Chapter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
On Dec. 30, 1950, he married Gladys A. Allen at Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Paul, Tulsa, Okla., and Tom, Pratt; a sister, Margaret Mardis, Anthony; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Military and Masonic graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Rosedale Cemetery, Manchester, Okla., with the Rev. Kay Mills presiding.

Henri Hernandez
GREAT BEND - Henri Hernandez, age four months, died Jan. 6, 2001, at Great Bend.
He was born Sept. 6, 2000, at Great Bend, the son of Enrique and Yesenia Guadalupe Ramirez Hernandez.He belonged to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend.
Survivors include: his parents, Great Bend; grandparents, Pedro and Carmen Hernandez, Great Bend, and Arnulfo and Angela Rameriz, Hercules, Coahuila, Mexico; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Hernan Hernandez.
Rosary will be at 8 p.m. today at Fryberger Chapel, Great Bend. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Angel Dy presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the mortuary and the family will receive friends before the rosary. Burial will be in Babyland of Great Bend Cemetery.

Arlie Ilene Cox
HUGOTON - Arlie Ilene Cox, 77, died Jan. 6, 2001, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit.
She was born Aug. 13, 1923, at Hugoton, the daughter of Ora Kirk and Bertha Bell Nelson. A lifetime Hugoton resident, she worked in the office for Enron Gas Co.
Survivors include: a son, Frank, Amarillo, Texas; a brother, Ora Kirk Nelson Jr., Redding, Calif.; and two sisters, Verla Belle Rosel, Hugoton, and Delda Mae Chance, Little Rock, Ark.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Frazer.
There will be no funeral or visitation hours. Cremation took place and inurnment will be at a later date.

Donald L. Shaffer
KINSLEY - Donald L. Shaffer, 80, died Jan. 6, 2001, at Pratt Regional Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 3, 1921, at Kinsley, the son of Vere R. and Alice Goodwin Shaffer. A lifetime Kinsley resident, he was a retired county appraiser.
He belonged to First United Congregational Church of Christ, the Rotary Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7349, all at Kinsley, and the U.S. LST Association.
On Sept. 8, 1946, he married Ruth Maxine Lowery at Kinsley. She survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Susan S. Rudoy, Pleasant Valley, N.Y., Marsha J. Wilson, Merriam, and Phyllis A. Wright, Olathe; a brother, Robert, Ann Arbor, Mich.; and four grandsons.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Congregational Church of Christ, Kinsley, with the Rev. Sara Davis Blodgett presiding.

Ruth Ratzlaff
Ruth Ratzlaff, 84, of Hutchinson, died Jan. 6, 2001, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born Nov. 22, 1916, in Harvey County, the daughter of Jacob B. and Anna H. Ratzlaff Ratzlaff. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, she had been a secretary for Tennant Realty and a legal secretary for Ehling Law Offices, retiring in 1983.
She belonged to First Men-nonite Church, Hutchinson.
Survivors include: a brother, Robert Ratzlaff, Hutchinson; a nephew; and a step-niece.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hoffnung-sau Cemetery, rural Inman, with Pastor Debbie Schmidt presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Buhler Mortuary.

BURLINGTON, Okla. - Frank B. Frey, 93, died Dec. 27, 1907, at Burlington, Okla.
He was the father of Betty Pope, Andover, and the brother of Ida Luty, Kiowa.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Riverside Church of Christ, Burlington. Burial will be in Apostolic Christian Cemetery, Burlington.
