Ethel M. Warta
ARLINGTON - Ethel M. Warta, 89, died Jan. 21, 2000, at Hospice Residential Care Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Feb. 12, 1910, in rural Arlington, the daughter of James E. and Katie Sickmon Carder. She graduated from Arlington High School and Wichita Business College. A lifetime Arlington resident, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to Arlington United Methodist Church.
On Feb. 7, 1934, she married
Alfred Warta at Hutchinson. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Sammy, Mesquite, Texas; two daughters, Marlene Kelly, Walkerton, Ind., and Marilyn Ray, Manhattan; a brother, Merle Carder, Hutchinson; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Carder; and a sister, Velma Taylor.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Elaine K. Lord presiding. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Sego cemetery, rural Reno County.
Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church, Arlington, or the Alzheimer's Association, both in care of the mortuary.
Blanche E. Matthews
BUHLER - Blanche E. Matthews, 88, of Buhler, died Jan. 27, 2000, at Buhler Sunshine Home.
She was born Oct. 15, 1911, at North Walpole, N.H., the daughter of Joseph Francis and Blanche Louise Nichols Henry. A Buhler resident for three years, moving from Hutchinson, she was a homemaker.
In 1936, she married
Frederick Matthews at Plainville, Conn. He died Sept. 11, 1958.
Survivors include: a son, Francis, Kansas City, Mo.; three stepsons, Henry and Fred Matthews, both of Plainville, Conn., and Vincent Matthews, Spring Hill, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Shirley Vortisch, Burlington, Conn.; two sisters, Marion Hammond, Pratt, and Dorothy Flint, Middletown, Conn.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson & Sons Memorial Chapel, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Hutchinson.
Anne L. Graves
BUHLER - Anne L. Graves, 86, died Feb. 12, 2000, at Hospice Residential Care Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Aug. 22, 1913, at Ashland, the daughter of Daniel Warren and Mae Gibson Von Schriltz. She graduated from Dodge City High School in 1931. A Hutchinson resident since 1984, moving from Liberal, she was the owner of Merle Norman Studio, Liberal, from 1969 to 1981.
She belonged to Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, and was a former member of Order of Eastern Star, Liberal.
On Nov. 28, 1931, she married
Richard Denny Graves at Dodge City. He died Feb. 7, 1981.
Survivors include: a son, Richard Terry, Dodge City; two daughters, Jeri Barton, Houston, and Connie Shea, Hutchinson; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Howard and Don Von Schriltz; and a grandson.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Hutchinson.

Clair Lorena Phillips
BUHLER - Clair Lorena Phillips, 84, died Jan. 8, 2000, at the Buhler Sunshine Home.
She was born April 5, 1915, at Larned, the daughter of Earl A. and Minerva Stephens Wiles. A longtime Larned resident, she was an X-ray technician at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus, Larned.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Larned.
On Feb. 4, 1939, she married
W. Kermit Phillips at Larned. He died Jan. 24, 1998.
Survivors include: three brothers, Earl Wiles Jr., Fredonia, Chester Wiles, Hutchinson, and Louis Wiles, Fairhope, Ala.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace and Elizabeth.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Pastor Dan Lundgren presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Larned cemetery.

BUHLER - Betty Marie True, 65, died Jan. 29, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born June 14, 1934, at Jetmore, the daughter of Charles and Anna Grissom Beeney. A Buhler resident since 1973, moving from Hutchinson, she worked for Consolidated Manufacturing, Hutchinson, for 19 years.
On Dec. 22, 1956, she married
Bob L. True at Clayton, N.M. He survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Tim True, Hutchinson, Tom True, Sterling, and Jack Armstrong, Buhler; a daughter, Susan Redd, Haven; a sister, Hazel Eden, Campo, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bobbie McCammon; four brothers, Bill, Jack, Charles and Frank Beeney; and four sisters, Beulah Calder, Norma Magazine, Gertrude Wells and Jean Greathouse.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hebron Mennonite Church, Buhler, with Pastor Ben Friesen presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, both at Buhler Mortuary. Burial will be in Hebron cemetery, Buhler.

Dorothy Annie Laura Sickler
HAVEN - Dorothy Annie Laura Sickler, 89, died Jan. 7, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born Dec. 19, 1910, at Cheney, the daughter of Henry and Emma Pottberg Meyer. A Haven resident since 1972, moving from Wichita and formerly of Scott City, she and her husband owned and operated a furniture store in Wichita. She had been a resident of Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson, for the past two years.
She belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Haven, and Lutheran Ladies Aid.
On Sept. 21, 1932, she married
Miles E. Sickler. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: a brother, Julius Meyer, Haven; three sisters, Anita Cummings and Wilma Semsroth, both of Wichita, and Lucille Mason, Albuquerque, N.M.; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Haven, with the Rev. Donald Adolf presiding. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Van Campen Funeral Home, Haven. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita.
