Opal Van Buren
HAVEN - Opal Van Buren, 78, died Jan. 11, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born May 15, 1921, at Magna City, the daughter of Omar Earl and Carrie Lenora Parrish Jackson. A Haven resident since 1936, formerly of Hutchinson and El Dorado, she was a supervisor of Reno County District Courts for 21 years before retiring.
She belonged to Haven United Methodist Church, where she was in the Women's Society, church treasurer, and a member of the Pair's and Spares.
On March 8, 1939, she married
Clifford Van Buren at Hutchinson. He died May 27, 1985.
Survivors include: three sons, Tony Lee, Milford, Terry Lynn, Plevna, and Tracy Layne, Wichita; a daughter, Tamara Lou Liedl, Haven; a brother, Paul Jackson, Hutchinson; a sister, Marjorie Anne Boone, El Dorado; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by four brothers; two sisters; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Haven United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Brooks presiding. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Van Campen Funeral Home, Haven. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns cemetery, El Dorado.

Betty J. McElwain
HAVEN - Betty J. McElwain, 73, died Jan. 6, 2000, at Hospice Residential Care Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Sept. 16, 1926, at Haven, the daughter of Arch L. and Ada Marie Harris McElwain. A Haven resident for many years, living in Hawaii for 10 years, she was a retired secretary for Derby Oil Production.
She attended Congregational United Church of Christ, Haven.
Survivors include: a sister, Evelyn Harper, Hutchinson; two nephews; and a niece.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Leland McElwain.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Van Campen Funeral Home Chapel, Haven, with Ken Moore officiating. Private inurnment services have already occurred.

Lucile Valdois
HAVEN - Lucile Valdois, 91, died Feb. 8, 2000, at her home in Hutchinson.
She was born July 29, 1908, at Elk Point, S.D., the daughter of Issac A. and Goldie Elvira Fisher Wilhite. A longtime resident of the Haven and Mt. Hope areas, she was a homemaker and a teller at Haven State Bank for two years.
She was a member of Haven Baptist Church and New Hope Baptist Church, Hutchinson.
On June 5, 1932, she married
Harry Valdois at Haven. He survives.
Survivors include: three sons, Darrel L., Hutchinson, Marvin D., Carney, Neb., and David L., Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Joyce L. Smith, Buhler; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Koontz and Maxine Wilhite; an infant grandson; and an infant great-granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Haven Baptist Church with the Revs. Dean Flanner, Marvin Valdois, and Harold Nelson presiding. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Van Campen Funeral Home, Haven. Burial will be in Laurel cemetery, Haven.

Elda L. Daugherty
HAVEN - Elda L. Daugherty, 89, died Jan. 8, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born July 5, 1910, at Republic, the daughter of Phillip V. and Mary Feight Beck. A Mount Hope resident since 1997, and formerly a longtime resident of Republic and Haven, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to Haven Senior Center.
On Sept. 23, 1933, she married
Lee H. Daugherty at Belleville. He died May 7, 1988.
Survivors include: two sons, Jimmy, Haven, and Ronald, Atwater, Calif.; three daughters, Sarah Picking, Abilene, Charlene Tucker, Mount Hope, and Arlene Bogle, Wichita; a brother, Raymond Beck, Ogallala, Neb.; a sister, Verda Florea, Scandia; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Marion and Morris; two daughters, Marjorie and Dorothy; and a grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Van Campen Funeral Home Chapel, Haven, with Lee Bledsoe presiding. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Union Valley cemetery, Republic County.

Henry William Broker
SOUTH HUTCHINSON - Henry William Broker, 81, died Jan. 19, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born June 7, 1918, at Sylvia, the son of Edward H. and Ona L. Dixon Broker. He graduated from Sylvia High School and attended Hutchinson Community College. A Hutchinson and South Hutchinson resident since 1936, moving from Sylvia, he was the former owner of Steffens Small Engine Repair and opened Brokers Antiques in 1969, retiring in 1983.
He belonged to Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene, Sylvia, and was a life member of the Veterans of the Foreign Wars Bob Campbell Post 1361 and the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68, both at Hutchinson. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
On Sept. 8, 1941, he married
Geneva Lloyd at El Dorado. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, David, South Hutchinson; a brother, Rex, Wichita; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald; and a sister, Naomi.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene, Sylvia, with Pastor John A. Miller presiding. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Sylvia cemetery, with military graveside rites performed by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Madge M. Imes
SOUTH HUTCHINSON - Madge M. Imes, 97, died Feb. 7, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born Aug. 13, 1902, at Gallatin, Mo., the daughter of George and Emma Shumate Merritt. She graduated from Gallatin, Mo., High School in 1922. A longtime resident of Beloit, she moved to Hutchinson in 1980, Wichita in 1983, and to South Hutchinson in 1991. She was a retired operator for Southwestern Bell and a homemaker.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.
In 1930, she married
Perry Griffith at Cedar. He died in 1965. In 1969, she married
Lee Gotshcall at Lincoln. He died in 1976. On Aug. 4, 1980, she married
Paul V. Imes at Beloit. He survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Secil Griffith, Turner, Ore., Wesley Griffith, Salem, Ore., Vernon Imes, Wichita, and Eugene Imes, Watertown, Wis.; a daughter, Helen Kadel, Acampo, Calif.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mennonite Friendship Retirement Community Chapel, South Hutchinson, with the Rev. Nick Warner and Chaplain Dan Kauffman presiding. Calling times will be from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Centenary cemetery, Gallatin, Mo.
