Jack D. Rice
Jack D. Rice, 72, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 12, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Dec. 8, 1927, at Nickerson, the son of Francis M. "Doc" and Mina M. Beeton Rice. He was a 1945 graduate of Nickerson High School and attended Hutchinson Community College. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he was the retired owner of The Bootery, Hutchinson.
He belonged to Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson, the Hutchinson Area Cancer Support Group and the Hutchinson Area Ostomy Group.
He married
Marie Hale. She died Oct. 5, 1964. On Sept. 22, 1965, he married
Betty I. Moulds. She survives.
Other survivors include: a stepson, Kim R. Moulds, Racine, Wis.; and a step-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with David Tappe presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to the church or the Maude Carpenter Children's Home, both in care of the mortuary.
John W. Estes
John W. Estes, 50, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 12, 2000, at Hutchinson.
He was born Nov. 23, 1949, at Falfurrias, Texas, the son of Johnnie William and Geneva Mitchell Estes. He attended Hutchinson High School. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he was a former employee of Dillons and Hambleton-LaGreca, both at Hutchinson.
On Nov. 4, 1972, he married
Tana Ford at Hutchinson. She died Jan. 21, 1995.
Survivors include: a daughter, Lori L. Warner, Hutchinson; mother and stepfather, Geneva and Joe Heim, Hutchinson; two brothers, Steve Estes, Springfield, Mo., and Rob Heim, Hutchinson; and two sisters, Mary Vierthaler, Hutchinson, and Pam Smith, Springfield.
Cremation will take place and no service is planned.

Irene Maye Steffan
Irene Maye Steffan, 75, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 8, 2000, at her home.
She was born Jan. 10, 1925, in rural Preston, the daughter of Frederick and Muriel Northrop DeRome. She graduated from Sawyer High School, Sawyer, in 1943. A longtime Hutchinson resident, moving from Pratt, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of 16th Street Baptist Church, Hutchinson, and the Miami Indian Tribe, Miami, Okla. She volunteered at Shadduck Senior Citizens Center.
On Sept. 30, 1943, she married
Ralph Pope. She later married
Lawrence C. Steffan on Nov. 22, 1962. He died Jan. 27, 1987.
Survivors include: five daughters, Sister Edwina Pope, ASC, Wichita, Lynne Williams, Hutchinson, Carol Miller, Halstead, Patti Stahlheber, Granbury, Texas, and Becky Enriquez, South Hutchinson; two sisters, twin Inez Mowery and Mary Shumway, both of Pratt; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Wayne, and Richard; and a sister, Evelyn Fast.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Rev. John Nestor presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Committal services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Iuka cemetery with Chief Lloyd Leonard officiating.

Eddie `Ed' Neufeld
Eddie "Ed" Neufeld, 87, of Hutchinson, died Jan. 8, 2000, at his home in Hutchinson.
He was born June 16, 1912, in Inman, the son of Abe and Anna Pauls Neufeld. He attended school at Hutchinson and Inman. He was a self-employed truck driver, retiring in 1973. He continued to drive trucks for Hamilton Roofing and Luminous Neon Sign Co.
He belonged to Mitchell United Methodist Chapel, rural Hutchinson.
In 1963, he married
Eleanor Van Horn Sands at Olathe. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Eddie, South Hutchinson, Richard, Golden, Mo., and Rod, Hutchinson; a stepson, Rick Sands, Rogers, Ark.; three daughters, Linda Branson, Rockaway Beach, Mo., Joyce Juhnke, Platte City, Mo., and Pam Bush, Fort Naches, Texas; two stepdaughters, Rose Harris, Garnett, and Peggy Link, Gardner, Mont.; 22 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers; a sister; two wives; two sons; and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Jeff Miller presiding. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.

Louise Martin
Louise Martin, 81, of Hutchinson, died Jan. 7, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born March 6, 1918, at Wichita, the daughter of Max and Lottie Grybowski Heller. She attended Hutchinson High School. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she worked as a bookkeeper for Big A Auto Parts for 23 years, retiring in 1984.
She belonged to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.
She married
John Martin at Kingman. He died in July1973.
Survivors include: a son, Earl Payne, Fairfax, Va.; four granddaughters; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with Father Ned Blick presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Hutchinson.

Alpha Pearl `Atchie' Elliott
Alpha Pearl "Atchie" Elliott, 77, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 11, 2000, at Oakwood Rehabilitation Center, Hutchinson.
She was born May 30, 1922, at Valley Center, the daughter of Arthur and Sara Elizabeth Turner Dill. A longtime Hutchinson area resident, she retired from Dillon's Bakery in 1976.
She married
Willard "Red" Elliott in Hutchinson. He died July 24, 1998.
Survivors include: two sons, Jim, Hutchinson, and Bill Westfall, Lee's Summit, Mo.; two sisters, Eda Frose, of Colorado, and Nonie Cornelson, Wichita; caregiver, Janice Seck, Hutchinson; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters,
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Alan Stanbaugh presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Hutchinson.

Wanda M. Kraus
ARLINGTON - Wanda M. Kraus, 86, died March 4, 2000, at Centerville, Mass.
She was born, June 19, 1913, at Cedar Vale, the daughter of Baldwin H. and Nannie G. Burden Casebolt. She graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1931, attended Hutchinson Community College, Pittsburg State University and was a 1961 and earned a bachelor's degree from Sterling College in 1961. A longtime Arlington resident, she was an elementary school teacher, having taught at Abbyville and Partridge before retiring.
She belonged to Arlington United Methodist Church.
On June 14, 1936, she married
Walter R. "Walt" Kraus at Cedar Vale. He died Sept. 21, 1999.
Survivors include; two sons, Richard A., Cotuit, Mass., and John H., Westminster, Md.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William L. Casebolt and Lloyd A. Casebolt Sr.; and three sisters, Dorothy L. Casebolt, Grace A. Casebolt and Laura R. Tetrick.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Arlington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elaine K. Lord presiding. Burial will be in Arlington cemetery. Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, was in charge of local arrangements.
