Rose M. Kirkpatrick
NICKERSON - Rose Mary Kirkpatrick, 91, died Jan. 30, 2005, at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Dec. 9, 1913, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Andrias and Katie Zsizsik Magyar. She was a Hutchinson resident for 49 years, moving to Nickerson in 1962. She worked for Richards Schebel Candy Co., and F.W. Woolworth Co. and was a waitress at Maymes Cafe and Margaret's Place. Later in life, she was a homemaker.
On Sept. 4, 1928, she married
Vernon L. Nelson at Hutchinson. On Dec. 22, 1962, she married
W. Meredith Kirkpatrick at Hutchinson. He died Dec. 9, 2002.
Survivors include: two daughters, Cara Jean Mark, Hutchinson, and Nancy R. Mangels, Nickerson; a stepson, Mark Kirkpatrick, Collierville, Tenn.; three stepdaughters, Jean Shively, Burlington, Wash., Judy Luginsland, Allen, and Eleanor Weltmer, Wildwood, Mo.; eight grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Andy and Fred Magyar; a sister, Anna Nelson; a granddaughter, Debbey Mangels Mock; and a great-grandson, Joshua James Love.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park cemetery, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Melvin Walton presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Reno County or the American Heart Association, both in care of the funeral home.
David L. Simmons
PAMPA, Texas - David Leroy Simmons, 49, died Jan. 17, 2005, at Perryton, Texas.
He was born July 13, 1955, at Hutchinson. A resident of Pampa, Texas, he worked for Ma's Towing and Recovery.
On May 17, 1981, he married
Angie Parks. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, B.J., Hutchinson, and Daniel, Pampa; five daughters, Jackie Simmons, Dallas, Loria Simmons, Destinee Simmons and Brianna Simmons, all of Pampa, Texas, and Danette Reed, Hutchinson; his mother, Margaret Griffith, Pampa; three brothers, Willard Rice, Pampa, James Simmons and Terry Simmons, both of Hutchinson; two sisters, Joyce Carter, Pampa, and Shirley Hunnicut, Ardmore, Okla.; two grandsons, Kerry Evans, Pampa, and Jordan Reed; and a granddaughter, Meagen Reed.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, Pampa, with the Rev. Fred Palmer, pastor of the Carpenter's Church, presiding. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Carolyn Meigs
Carolyn "Sue" Meigs, 72, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born Dec. 29, 1932, at Paragould, Ark., the daughter of Mellville Edward and Fannie Pearl Massey Clifford.
A longtime Hutchinson resident, she graduated from Paragould High School in 1950 and attended Hendrix College at Conway, Ark. She was a former real estate agent for Continental Realty, worked part-time for International Homes and was a homemaker.
She belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church and Faculty Wives Club at Hutchinson Community College.
On June 8, 1952, she married
Leon Meigs at Paragould, Ark. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, David, Phoenix, and Dan, Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Diane Arnold, Philadelphia; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Clary.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Nick Warner presiding. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the funeral home.

LaVerne "Jack" Ratzlaff
BUHLER - LaVerne "Jack" Ratzlaff, 63, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Via Christi Regional Hospital, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
He was born July 6, 1941, at Hutchinson, the son of Edward and Sarah Androes Ratzlaff.
A lifetime resident of the Inman and Buhler areas, he graduated from Inman High School in 1959. He worked for Buhler Mills and for the last 31 years he worked for Dillons Warehouse, Hutchinson.
He belonged to Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church, Hutchinson Teamsters Local 795 and was a charter member of Buhler Kiwanis. He served for 23 years on the Buhler City Council, Buhler Recreation Department, and the Hutchinson Recreation Department as sight supervisor and the Buhler Police and Fire Departments. He was an avid collector. He served in the Army National Guard.
On June 10, 1991, he married
Sandra Fisher at Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Michelle Estes, Lusk, Wyo. and Susie Gehring, Buhler; a half-brother, Alvin Froese, Hutchinson; two sisters, Ardena Freeman, Stigler, Okla. and Delores Ratzlaff, Little River; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastors Nick Rempel, Brent Warkentin and Bob Dalke presiding. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Buhler Mortuary. Burial will be in Buhler Municipal cemetery.

Loren Patten
PARTRIDGE - Loren "Eddie" Patten, 61, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born July 12, 1943, at Hutchinson, the son of Frank Patten and Iva Patten-Taggart. A lifetime Reno County resident, he was a superintendent for the former Borton Inc.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include: four brothers, Charles L. Patten and Clifford Taggart, both of Partridge, Robert Patten, Hutchinson, and Kenneth Patten, Aurora, Colo.; and two sisters, Linda Ullom and Sherri Elam, both of Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Russell and Jackie Eugene Patten.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastors Paul Danner and Andy Heer presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Partridge cemetery, Partridge.

Debra A. Hatcher
Debra Ann Hatcher, 45, died Jan. 20, 2005, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born July 29, 1959, at Colorado. She graduated from McPherson High School. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a homemaker and volunteer driver for the soup kitchen.
She married
, Leonard L. Hatcher, at Hutchinson. He survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Janet Leann, of the home; two stepsons, Michael Hatcher, Sterling, and Mark Hatcher, W.Va.; a brother, Robert, Hutchinson; three sisters, Mary Ellen, Springfield, Mo., Mary Jane and Linda, both of McPherson; and three step-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Cairo cemetery, Cairo. Friends may sign the register at the graveside service.
