Opal Rose Poorbaugh
Opal Rose Poorbaugh, 77, died Oct. 19, 2004, at Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson.

She was born Sept. 19, 1927, at Kinsley, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Gilley. A 32-year resident of Hutchinson, she worked for Dr. Young and was a bookkeeper at Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson.

She belonged to First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Sweet Adeline's, all of Hutchinson.

In May of 1972, she married Patric D. Poorbaugh at Kinsley. He survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Michael Richardson, Republic, Mo., Robert Richardson, Liberty Hills, Texas, and Randy Richardson, California; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Anderson.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is planned for a later date.

Memorials may be sent to the Opal Poorbaugh Memorial Fund, in care of Penwell Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson, who is in charge of arrangements.

Carley Sue Janda
CHASE - Carley Sue Janda died Oct. 21, 2004, at Hutchinson.

She was born Oct. 21, 2004, the daughter of Rebecca Mortimore and Frank Janda.

Survivors include: her parents, Chase; three brothers, Michael, Dakota and Jordan Mortimore, all of Chase; a sister, Rachel Janda, Chase; grandparents, Brenda Hixon, Chase, and Ed and Ann Janda, Lyons; and great-grandparents, Voncille Boatwright, Deland, Fla., and Ruby Janda, Little River.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Charity Mortimore; and great-grandparents, Jessie Boatwright and Winslow Janda, and George and Jean Hixon.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons, with Johnnie Hardie presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lyons Municipal cemetery.

Walter Edward Bunte
Walter Edward Bunte, 91, died Oct. 13, 2004, at Hutchinson Hospital.

He was born April 25, 1913, at Hutchinson, the son of C.F. and Lottie Helling Bunte. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1931, and from Engineering School, Ozark, Mo. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he owned Bunte Torch and Regulator Repair.

He belonged to Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church and Loyal Order of Moose No. 982.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On Nov. 1, 1936, he married Pauline Helen Dunlap at Hutchinson. She died Aug. 19, 1989.

Survivors include: two daughters, Connie Alumbaugh and husband Chuck, Pahrump, Nev., and Carol J. Mahoney, Hutchinson; four grandchildren, Christopher Meyers, Donna Meyers, Catharine Carpenter and Christina Mahoney; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Bunte; and a sister, Frances Bunte.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Alan D. Stambaugh presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be sent to Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church or Loyal Order of Moose No. 982, both in care of the mortuary.

Gerri M. Johnson
Gerri M. Johnson, 29, died Oct. 23, 2004, at Hutchinson Hospital.

She was born Jan. 29, 1975, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Mark W. and Colleen M. Disberger Johnson. She graduated from Buhler High School in 1993 and Hutchinson Community College in 1995, and she attended Kansas State University. A longtime Hutchinson area resident, she was a production assistant/coordinator for Ferguson Fotography, Hutchinson.

She belonged to Church of the Holy Cross, St. Rita Circle at the church, and Young Catholic Faith Sharing Group.

Survivors include: her parents, Hutchinson; two brothers, Wes, Manhattan, and B. J., Hutchinson; grandparents, Irma Alpers, Raymore, Mo., Bob and Vina Disberger Paul, Manhattan; two great-grandmothers, Glendean Disberger, Council Grove, and Margaret Plunkett, Syracuse; 34 aunts and uncles, Sherry Waggoner, Iver and Nancy Johnson, Bill and Jann Newton, Jeanne and Kent Miles, Tom and Jeannie Newton, Zelpha and Chris Franzmann, Starla and Mark Stoppel, Garth and Sherri Johnson, Adola and Kirk Stocker, Theresa and Heath Higbie, Dennis and Martha Disberger, Pat Disberger, Mike and Kim Disberger, Carol and Dennis Wright, Connie and Nick Hart, Russell and Mary Disberger, David and Kim Disberger, Robert and Tonya Disberger; and 56 cousins.

She was preceded in death by: grandparents, Jay M. Disberger, Harold Q. and Geraldine Johnson; and two great-grandfathers, Connell Plunkett, and Marian Disberger.

Parish rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross, with Father Joe Eckberg presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, both at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be sent to Church of the Holy Cross or Celiac Sprue Association, both in care of the mortuary.

Jeffrey R. Moeckel
PLEVNA - Jeffrey Ross Moeckel, 52, died Oct. 22, 2004, at Hutchinson.

He was born Oct. 24, 1951, at Hutchinson, the son of Virl and Marie Prose Moeckel. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1969. A lifetime Plevna resident, he was a farmer and stockman.

He belonged to Plevna Community Bible Church.

He served in the U.S. Army National Guard.

On Aug. 15, 1970, he married Gayla Sue Peacock at Plevna. She survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Marcella Marie Moeckel, Plevna; his parents, Hutchinson; a brother, Don, Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Judy Roberts, Hutchinson; and a grandmother, Myrtle Prose, Scott City.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Plevna Community Bible Church, with Dr. Alva F. Goossen and Craig Moeckel presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Sylvia cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the church in care of the funeral home.

Terrance J. Pfannenstiel
Terrance J. Pfannenstiel, 63, died Oct. 14, 2004, at Hutchinson Hospital.

He was born March 22, 1941, at Great Bend, the son of Clarence M. and Rose Legleiter Pfannenstiel. He graduated from Hays High School in 1959. A 40-year Hutchinson resident, moving from Hays, he was a truck driver for Liberty Homes.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include: two daughters, Pam Spencer, Las Vegas, and Jackie Pfannenstiel, Hutchinson; a son, Kevin, Austin, Texas; his mother, Hutchinson; a brother, Lonnie, Hutchinson; three grandchildren, Brittany and Brianna Willems, Hutchinson, and Riley Pfannenstiel, Austin, Texas; many nephews, nieces and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Delane.

Cremation has taken place. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be sent to Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., in care of the funeral home.
