Gloria Espinoza
Gloria Espinoza, 54, died Oct. 4, 2004, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born Dec. 5, 1949, at Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Reyes and Teresa Munoz Mercado. A Hutchinson resident since 1975, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.
On Aug. 3, 1978, she married
Celestino Espinoza at Hutchinson. He survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Celestina Escamilla and Candelaria E. Carillo, both of Hutchinson; three brothers, Reyes, John and Ricardo Mercado, all of Dallas; four sisters, Alice Gonzales, Maria J. Reyes, Juanita Alvarado and Irene Mercado, all of Dallas; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Pauline Mercado.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with Father Ned Blick presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, all at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson.
Robert Wayne Mendenhall
NEODESHA - Robert Wayne Mendenhall, 49, died Oct. 5, 2004, at Wilson County Hospital, Neodesha.
He was born Aug. 30, 1955, at Hutchinson, the son of Cecil and Kathryn Fleming Mendenhall. He was a graduate of Hutchinson High School, Salt City Business School, and Bear Valley School of Biblical Studies, Denver. A Resident of Neodesha, previously of Denver and Hutchinson, he was a Computer Technician and Minister of the Church of Christ, Neodesha.
On Feb. 17, 1973, he married
Theresa J. Snell at Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Brad, Neodesha; two daughters, Jennifer Reasoner and Monica Ayres, both of Neodesha; three brothers, Cecil, Hammond, Ind., Donnie, South Hutchinson, and Kenney, Emporia; four sisters, Betty Koch and Arlene Ritchy, both of Tucson, Ariz., Shirley Stewart, Inman, and Judy Steicklein, Wichita; two grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson. There will be a private family visitation. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.

W. Leola Greever
W. Leola Greever, 93, died Nov. 15, 2004, at Wesley Towers, Ralph Thorne Care Center.
She was born April 9, 1911, at Lerado, the daughter of Samuel Gordon and Viola Oletha Moore Cole. She graduated from Hutchinson High School. A lifetime Reno County resident, she owned the Smile-A-Minute Photographic Studio, where she made the ID badges for the Navy Base in World War II and took photos at the 1941 Prairie Pow-Wow, Hutchinson seventieth anniversary celebration. She and her husband, Don, owned and operated Greever's Office Machines for 40 years. She was a beautician and was the first licensed manicurist in Kansas.
She belonged to Zion Lutheran Church, was a 50-year member of the Silver Leaf Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 464, and past treasurer of Church Women United.
On Nov. 4, 1928, she married
Donald C. Greever at Hutchinson. He died Nov. 1, 1993.
Survivors include: a son, Richard Greever and his wife, Betty, Hutchinson; a daughter, Beverly Hensley and her husband, Ed, Hutchinson; a brother, Roy Cole, Missouri; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and a host of great and great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Norma Greever, Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by a son Donald L. Greever.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, with a special service with Order of the Eastern Star, Silver Leaf Chapter, and Pastor Robert L. Albin presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to Shriner's Hospital, Midian Shrine Center, or Order of the Eastern Star, Silver Leaf Chapter, all in care of the mortuary.
David Freund
David Daniel "Dave" Freund, 42, died Oct. 31, 2004, at Hospice House, after a long illness.
He was born April 16, 1962, at Hutchinson, the son of Glenn "Dave" and Rose Marie Drain Freund. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1980 and attended Hutchinson Community College. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he was a tile installer for Freund Investment Inc.
He belonged to St. Teresa's Catholic Church.
Survivors include: a son, Hunter Freund, Hutchinson; his parents, Dave and Rose Freund, Hutchinson; a sister, Elizabeth Sayre and her husband, Scott, Hutchinson; two nephews, Jacob and Cole Sayre; and a niece, Ashley Sayre.
Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, with Father Stuart M. Smeltzer presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and the family will receive friends after the rosary Wednesday, all at the mortuary. Private family burial will be held in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Reno County, Boys and Girls Club of Hutchinson, or a charity of the donor's choice, all in care of the mortuary.
Deanna Moralez
TOPEKA - Deanna "Deezer" Moralez, 62, died Oct. 30, 2004, at Topeka.
She was born Nov. 25, 1941, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Harvey A. and Irene Jamieson Striplin. She was a waitress at Gammons Restaurant.
She married
Joe Moralez.
Survivors include: a son; four daughters, including Debi Moralez, Hutchinson; two sisters; a brother; and 12 grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, North Topeka.
Helen M. Stallman
Helen M. Stallman, 94, died June 25, 2004, at Hutchinson.
Helen was born Dec. 24, 1909, at the home of her parents, John H. and Mary Voran Kaufman, near Belmont, in rural Kingman County. She graduated from Kingman High School in 1928 and attended Friends University, where she earned her elementary teaching certificate in 1930.
She taught in a one-room school in Kingman County for two years before attending Adela Hale Business College, Hutchinson.
After working at several businesses at Hutchinson, she joined Johnson Music Center, where she was a bookkeeper and cashier for nearly 40 years until retiring at age 80.
She remained active in retirement by participating in many activities at Elmdale Center, including serving as ticket taker for the weekly Thursday night dances.
She belonged to Zion Lutheran Church, where she was quite active in her younger years, serving as Sunday School pianist, teacher and volunteer financial secretary.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary at Hutchinson and the Hutchinson Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. In 1999, she was named the Hutchinson ABWA's Business Woman of the Year.
She married
James R. Stallman on July 27, 1941, at Hutchinson. He died Jan. 11, 1982.
Survivors include: her son, James R. Stallman Jr., Spring Hill, Kan., and fiance, Kelly Boreas and her children, Tim and Katie; her daughter and husband, Karen S. and David W. Lane, Wichita; five grandchildren, Courtney Stallman, Kansas City, Mo., Brett Stallman, Redmond, Wa., Jennifer Lane, Little Rock, Ark., Laura Graham and husband, David, Wichita, Darla Scherz and husband Carl, Dallas, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Emma and Miles Starks, Wichita, and Alexandra and Anneliese Scherz, Dallas; a sister, Florence Barber, Anthony; and brother, Kenneth Kaufman, Wichita.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with Pastor Robert L. Albin presiding.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
