Deborah L. “Debbie” Goates, 51, of Wichita, sister and sister-in-law of Richard and Sue Goates of Bel Aire, died April 14, 2005. she was a U.S.D. 259 food service employee. Service was April 19 at White Chapel Garden of Gethsemane.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eugie C. Goates, and mother, Carol M. Reeves.
Other survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, C. Wayne and Janell Goates of Wichita; nephew, Brian Goates; niece, Angela Slaven.
Memorials have been established with the Kansas State School of Veterinarian Medicine and the Kansas Humane Society. Affinity Mortuary had charge.
Charles Schlicher
Charles W. Schlicher, 73, of Park City, retired aircraft mechanical engineer, died April 13, 2005. Service was April 18 at Hillside Funeral Home East, Wichita.
Survivors include his wife, Muriel of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Sandee Schlicher of Valley Center, John and Debbie Schlicher of Park City; daughters and son-in-law, Lora and Larry Newell of Belle Plaine, Vicki Schlicher of Park city; sisters and brother-in-law, Juanita and William Alva Boyer, Gail Watkins, all of rural Valley Center; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Park City Church of the Nazarene, 2100 E. 61st North, Park City 67219.
Alla Witham
Alla Agnes Thomason Witham, 79, of Valley Center, former schoolteacher and retired U.S.D. 262 bus driver, died April 15, 2005. Service was April 19 at Valley Center Christian Church with Pastor Richard Neu officiating.
She was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Glen Elder, the daughter of Thomas H. Thomason and Alla Augusta Detwiler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and granddaughter, Paige Allyn Diepenbrock.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Diepenbrock of Valley Center, Shirley Griffin of Newberg, Ore.; sons, Thomas Witham of Falun, Joseph Witham of Elwood; stepson, Donnie Witham of Bethune, S.C.; sister, Virginia Frese of Salina; grandchildren, Amanda Leighton, Justin Diepenbrock, Randall Diepenbrock, Jessica Walker, Katie Witham, Kaley Witham, Ashlie Witham, Ray Griffin Jr., Teri Lynn, Tanya; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Hynes Hospice Center, Via Christi St. Francis, 313 N. Market, Wichita 67202. Baker Funeral Home had charge.
Jay A. Barthelme
Jay A. Barthelme, 46, of Wichita, retired Service Transfer Inc. employee, died April 6, 2005. Service was April 11 at St. Jude Catholic Church.
Survivors include his brothers, Brian, Kelly; sister, Lynell; in-laws, Kim and Craig; and many nieces and nephews.

Allen Harrell
Allen Scott Harrell, 90, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died March 22, 2005. Service was April 7 at Downing and Lahey Mortuary East with Dr. Bill Beahm officiating. Burial was at Kechi cemetery, Kechi.
He was born Nov. 19, 1914, in Dallas, and was raised in Wichita. He graduated from Valley Center High School in 1933. He married
Edna M. Strickland of Kechi on June 16, 1936. She preceded him in death Feb. 12, 2002. He ran a poultry business in Wichita prior to World War II. During the war, he served in combat with the U.S. Army in Europe. Hewas a Santa Fe Railroad conductor in Emporia for 33 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Wichita Bible Church and the Emporia American Legion.
Survivors include his daughter, Wanda R. Eldridge of Cape Girardeau; son, James M. Harrell of Wheaton, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with The Lutheran Home, 2825 Bloomfield Road, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701.
Alfred F. Veith
Alfred F. “Al” Veith, 83, of Wichita, brother of Helen Congdon of Valley Center, died April 9, 2005. He was the owner and operator of Al Veith Auto Service of Valley Center. Prayer service was April 13 at Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita. Mass of Christian burial is at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will be at Resurrection cemetery.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ken Veith.
Survivors include his wife of 59 _ years, Darlene of Wichita; son, Ron Veith of El Dorado; daughters, Kathy Denayer of Derby, Jane Jayne of Rose Hill; sisters, Mary Alice Gorman, Charlotte Veith, both of Houston Texas; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Alcie I. Stafford
Alcie I. Stafford, 91, mother and mother-in-law of Thomas and Roberta Stafford and Carolyn and Larry Papps, all of Valley Center, died April 10, 2005. She was a homemaker. Service was April 13 at Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, and a son, Bernice Neil.
Other survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bernell and Barbara Stafford of Wichita, Bernard and Johnnie Stafford of Danville; daughter, Darlene Arebalo of Wichita; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Evelyn Lackey St. Clair
Marjorie Evelyn Lackey St. Clair, 76, of Valley Center, homemaker, died April 2, 2005. Service was April 5 at First United Methodist Church.
She was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Peabody, the daughter of Theodore E. Lackey and Ruth E. Uphoff. She married
Edgar L. St. Clair on July 19, 1947, in Peabody. He survives. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ted Lackey Jr., Bill Lackey Sr.; and sister, Margaret Lackey.

Toni Moreland
Toni Ann McNay Morland, 57, of Wichita, mother and mother-in-law of Mindy and Eddy Lynn of Valley Center, died March 24, 2005. She was a homemaker and office administrator for Caber Associates. Service was Monday at Riverlawn Christian Church, Wichita.
She was born Sept. 25, 1947, in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Curtis E. McNay and Betty Jane Lutz. She was preceded in death by her mother.
Other survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Tiffany Morland of Clearwater; brothers and sisters-in-law, Curtis II and Debby McNay, Scott and Atha McNay, all of Wichita; sister, Debra Sims of Belle Plaine; father and second mom, Curtis and Sue McNay; grandchildren, Lakyn and Jessy Lynn, Michael Morland III.

James Rogers
James Stanley Rogers, 44, of Springfield, Mass., son of Freda Rogers of Valley Center, died March 24, 2005. He had been under the care of Baystate VNA and Hospice. A service in celebration of his life will be held in the spring, at the convenience of his family, at First Church of Christ, Suffield, Conn.
He was born Oct. 7, 1960, in Wichita, the son of Lindsay “Ted” Rogers and Freda Perry. He was preceded in death by his father. He was raised in Valley Center and earned a bachelor’s in music at Baylor University. He moved east to continue his musical studies, earning master’s degrees in religion and music from Yale University in 1992. He was minister of music at First Church of Christ, Congregational in Suffield, Conn., and also taught music at The Macduffie School in Springfield, Mass. He was a talented recitalist on organ, piano and harpsichord, and was a gifted tenor. He was a longtime member of Novi Cantori professional chamber choir, and was a much-sought-after vocal soloist in the area.
Other survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Jim Fowler of Fallbrook, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law, John and Brenda Rogers of Moncks Corner, S.C.; and niece and spouse, Krista and Craig Fletcher of Wichita.
A memorial has been established with First Church of Christ Memorial Garden Fund, 81 High Street, Suffield, Conn. 06078, and with Novi Cantori, PO Box 30021, Springfield, Mass. 01103. Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield, Conn., has charge.
Fred Crow Sr.
Fred L. Crow Sr., 88, of Wichita, father of Charles Ray Crow of Park City, died March 27, 2005. He was a retired master plumber. Service was March 30 at Fairlawn Memorial Park, Hutchinson.
Other survivors include his son, Fred Crow Jr. of Bellevue, Neb.

Emma Koehn
Emma Mae Koehn, 83, of Wichita, mother of Wilbur Lee Koehn and Larry Earl Koehn, both of Park City, died March 27, 2005. Service was March 30 at Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita.
She was born in Protection, the daughter of Peter B. Ratzlaff and Bessie Thomas.
Other survivors include her husband of 63 years, Earl Koehn; son, Robert Allen Koehn of Independence; daughter, Wilma Mae Palmer of Manhattan; sisters, Marrine Shultz of La Fountain, Leona Hazen of Wichita, Violet Chapman, Rose Ratzlaff, both of Neodesha; brother, LeVerne Ratzlaff of Fredonia; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Durward Gale Nice Sr.
Durward Gale Nice Sr., 88, of Wichita, brother of Eldon Nice of Valley Center, died March 24, 2005. Service was Monday at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East, Wichita.
He was born Jan. 17, 1917, in Gotebo, Okla., the son of Oscar and Charlotte Nice. He married
Elizabeth Parks on Nov. 20, 1938, in Independence. After serving the City of Wichita as a firefighter for 25 years, he and his wife retired to Beaver Lake, Rogers, Ark. She preceded him in death on July 12, 1995. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Herschel Dale Nice; brother, Venson Nice; and a sister, Helen Jean Nice.
Other survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Durward Gale Jr. and Barbara Nice of Joplin, Mo.; brothers, Jack Nice of Wichita, John Nice of Carmichael, Calif., Paul Nice of Portage, Ohio, Carl Nice of Sacramento, Calif., Bob Nice of Wichita; sisters, Hazel Smith of Wichita, Bonnie Jeffries of Russellville, Ark.; grandsons, Gary Nice of Rockford, Ill, Marvin Nice of Benton, Jeffrey Nice of Paola, Steven Nice of Joplin; and six great-grandchildren.

Anderson “Andy” McMinn
Anderson “Andy” McMinn, 69, of Mulvane, stepfather of Lisa Ireland of Wichita, died March 26, 2005. Service was Wednesday at Senter-Smith Mortuary, Derby. Burial was at Mulvane cemetery.
He was born June 23, 1935, in Midland, Texas, the son of Leonard Owen and Lena Mae McMinn. He served for 23 years with the U.S. Navy, retiring as a senior chief petty officer. He married
Patricia Ann Yates on April 15, 1983, in Wichita. She survives. He was a Valley Center resident for 20 years, moving to Mulvane two years ago.
Other survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Anderson and Rebecca McMinn of Florence, Colo., Robert and Deanna McMinn of Wichita, Steve and Angela McMinn of Lewiston, Idaho, Richard and Rita McMinn of Wichita, Leonard and Candice McMinn of Mayfield; stepson, Scott Ireland of Mulvane; brother, Elton McMinn of Big Bear, Calif.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Neva Mae and Charles Sutton of Oklahoma City, Janette and Mac Davis of Midland; and 17 grandchildren.

Pauline Scrivner
Pauline Davis Scrivner, 91, of Lawrence, formerly of Valley Center, died March 20, 2005. She was a homemaker. Memorial service is at 10 a.m. April 7 at Baker Funeral Home, Valley Center. Inurnment is at 10 a.m. April 8 at Hammer cemetery, Montreal, Mo.
She was born July 1, 1913, in Missouri, the daughter of Elmer “E.Z.” Davis and Rebecca Jane Welchonch. She married
Clifford Scrivner on April 16, 1932, in Missouri. He preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 2004. They moved to Valley Center in 1943. She was a fan of the Wichita Wings soccer team. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bobby Dean Scrivner, in 1944; two sons-in-law, Vonley Hinds, in 1994, and Robert Kolts, in 1995; a granddaughter, Janet Walter, in 1996; and by 10 siblings.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Lois Hinds of Valley Center, Joyce and Marvin Leonard of Park City, Kenneth and Karen Kolts Ritter of Lawrence, Margaret and Charles Goldsmith of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Erma Scrivner of Plano, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
