Patrick Winegarner-Webber

Patrick Winegarner-Webber, 46, of Derby, son of Mary Frances Webber of Bel Aire, died March 23, 2004. He was a Boeing inspector. Service was March 27 at Smith Mortuary, Derby.

He was preceded in death by his fathers, Chester Winegarner Sr. and James Webber.

Other survivors include his wife, Penny J. Webber of Derby; daughters, Ami Webber and Francisco J. Guerra, Ericka Webber and David Hodgin Jr., grandchildren, Elijah Webber, Shyanne Hodgin, all of Derby; brother, Chester and Marsha Winegarner; and sister, Janet and Ronnie Spangler.

Rosalyn Messerschmidt

Rosalyn E. “Rosie” Rausch Ewertz Messerschmidt, 78, of Colwich, mother of Millie Ekstrom of Valley Center, died March 28, 2004, after a long battle with emphysema. She was a homemaker. Mass was March 31 at Sacred Heart Church in Colwich.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl C. Ewertz, on June 17, 1970; a stepson, Charles Messerschmidt; and a sister, Regina “Peg” Hilger.

Other survivors include her husband, Gilbert of Colwich; sons, Gary “Barney” Ewertz of Salina, Charles Ewertz, Ken Ewertz, both of Colwich; daughters, Mary Shearer, Karen Price, both of Wichita, Anita Sigg of Ost; stepdaughters, Peggy Arnold, Jan Messerschmidt, both of Wichita; brother, Leroy Rausch of Colwich; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association. Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Colwich, had charge.

C Bill Bachman

C Bill (Charles W) Bachman, 78, of Wichita, died April 1, 2004. Memorial service was April 5 at Trinity Presbyterian Church.

For more than 50 years he was a Wichita realtor, homebuilder and developer of seven neighborhood areas including The Moorings on Crystal Lake. He was an avid handball, sports and horse enthusiast. A graduate of Wichita North High School and Wichita University, he served in the European theater during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Craig, Don and John.

Survivors include his wife of more than 57 years, Janet Israel Bachman; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg R and Roberta Bachman of Tulsa, Okla, Brad C and Kathleen Bachman of Wichita, Kurt W and Debra Bachman, all of Wichita; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Bachman-Humphries and J. Bob Humphries of Tampa, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with the church, 2258 Marigold, Wichita 67204, and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita 67202. Cochran Mortuary had charge.

Harvey Martens

Harvey Martens, 80, of Wichita, father and father-in-law of Deborah and Gary Taylor of Valley Center, died April 3, 2004. He was a retired U.S. Post Office letter carrier. Service was April 7 at Assembly of God Church, Valley Center. Burial was at Kechi cemetery, Kechi.

He was born April 11, 1923, in Lehigh, the son of George Martens and Hattie Guhr. He married Neva “Dorleen” Schlehuber on June 29, 1952. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Linda Covey; and brothers George, Herman, Jake, Henry, Alvin, Albert and Elmer. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

Other survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Charles Case of Sedgwick; sisters, Anna Smith, Freda Birkle, Elda Pshigoda, all of Hillsboro; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the church. Baker Funeral Home had charge.

Helen Brensing

Helen Diana Brensing, 70, of Mullinville, mother and mother-in-law of Albert and Treva Brensing and sister of James Detwiler, all of Valley Center, died March 31, 2004. She was a homemaker. Service was April 2 at the Church of Christ, Mullinville, and burial was at Hillcrest cemetery.

She was born Oct. 21, 1933, the daughter of Homer Clifford Detwiler and Martha Faye Pinkston. She married Wayne Brensing on May 29, 1953, in Pratt. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1990. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Nancy Brensing. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Mullinville.

Other survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Charlene Brensing of Mullinville; daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Michael Daniel of McPherson; brothers, Donald Detwiler, Homer Detwiler, Charles Detwiler, John Detwiler, all of Pratt; sisters, Mary Turner of Wichita, Georgia Adams of South Carolina; and 11 grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Maude Carpenter Children’s Home, 1501 N. Meridian, Wichita 67203. Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg, had charge.

Marvin Leppke

Marvin E. Leppke, 73, of Wichita, father of Donna Monk of Bel Aire, died April 1, 2004. He was retired from Cessna Aircraft after 27 years. Service was April 6 at Messiah Baptist Church.

Other survivors include his wife, Marcie, daughters, Marlene Leppke, Linda Marbut, both of Wichita, Cathy Marbut of Augusta, Lesa Marbut of Lawrence; brother, Bill Leppke, sister, Beatrice Kroeker, both of Weatherford, Okla.; and five grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with the church and with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Watson’s Garden Chapel had charge.

Michael Tomlinson

Michael Warren Tomlinson, 58, of Wichita, father of Traci Holder of Bel Aire, died April 2, 2004. Private family inurnment.

Other survivors include his son, Scott Tomlinson of Wichita; sister, Terri Brim of Dallas; and two grandchildren.

Old Mission Mortuary had charge.

Virginia Thompson

Virginia L. Thompson, 81, of Wichita, mother and mother-in-law of Tim and Shannon Thompson, Cindy and Danny Dundas and Chuck and Susan Thompson, all of Valley Center, died April 1, 2004. She was a homemaker. Service was April 3 at St. Jude Catholic Church. Graveside service was at Hillside cemetery, Sedgwick.

Other survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Buck Hartley of Shawnee; sister, Patricia Hupman of Wichita; brother, Jim Fagan of Benton; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas, 3241 E. Victor, Wichita 67208. Downing & Lahey Mortuary East had charge.

Daniel Hess

Daniel Jacob Hess, 82, of Valley Center, retired quality control inspector for Coleman Company for 38 years and farmer/cattleman, died April 12, 2004. Visitation is from 6 to 8 tonight (Thursday), and service is at 1:30 p.m. Friday, both at Baker Funeral Home, Valley Center.

He was born Feb. 21, 1922, in rural Marion County, the son of Harry Daniel Hess and Olga Anna Zeih. He married Mary Ruth Ellsworth on June 20, 1947, in Wichita. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and received the Purple Heart for being wounded while in the service. He was a member of the VFW and Bester G. Brown Lodge, and was a Mason and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three brothers.

Survivors include his son, Dale Hess of Kechi; daughter, Joyce Rogers of Hot Springs, Ark.; sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Esther Stucky of Peabody; brothers, Albert Hess of Peabody, Raymond Hess of Monett, Mo., John Hess of Wichita.

Memorials have been established with the Disabled American Veterans and Via St. Christi Home Health Care.

Dixie Beal

Dixie D. Schwab Beal, 87, of Emporia, mother and mother-in-law of Jeff and Ronda Schwab and grandmother of Lauren and Kristen Schwab, all of Kechi, died April 8, 2004. She was a homemaker and former Santa Fe Railroad telegrapher and a hairdresser. Service was April 14 at First Christian Church, Emporia.

She was active in her church and enjoyed visiting friends in Greenwood County. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence Schwab and Glen Beal Sr.; five sisters and a brother.

Other survivors include her son, Dennis Schwab of Farmington, Utah; stepsons, Glen Beal Jr. of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Tyson Beal of Des Moines, Iowa, Bob Beal of Overland Park; granddaughters, Melissa and Monica Schwab; five step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the church. Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home had charge.

Glen Whitlow

Glen A. Whitlow, 73, of Wichita, father of Stephanie Bishop of Valley Center, died April 10, 2004. He was a retired auto salesman.

Other survivors include his son, Rick Whitlow of Hewitt, Texas, and sister, Betty Greenbank of Lake city, Colo.

Broadway Mortuary had charge.

Ina Waltner

Ina F. Waltner, 71, of Newton, mother of Kathy Coons of Valley Center, died April 11, 2004. She was a homemaker. Service is at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton.

Other survivors include her husband, Merle; daughters, Paula Rice of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., Susan Waltner of Wichita; son, Doug Waltner of Halstead; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Kevin Iseli

Kevin R. Iseli, 43, of Wichita, Raytheon engineer, died April 9, 2004. Service was April 13 at United Methodist Church, Sedgwick. Graveside service was at Greenridge cemetery, Dickerson.

Survivors include his daughters, Stephanie Brown of Sedgwick, Jennie Iseli of Andover; parents, Delmar and Nadiene Iseli of Marion; sister, Kelly Trujillo of Sedgwick; fiancée, Jackie Sanford of the home; and grandchild, Paige Brown of Sedgwick.

A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Broadway Mortuary had charge.

Lawrence Kennedy

Lawrence O. Kennedy, 82, of Wichita, brother and brother-in-law of Warren and Judy Kennedy of Valley Center, died April 7, 2004. He was a former partner in Belles & Associates Construction Co. Service was April 10 at Grace Presbyterian Church, Wichita.

Other survivors include his wife of 60 years, Kathleen; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Debbie Kennedy, daughter and son-in-law, Kris and Lou Ibarra, grandsons, Matt Ibarra, Sean and Jason Kennedy, all of Wichita; and granddaughter and husband, Amber and Johnnie Medrano, great-granddaughter, Brenna Medrano, all of Lubbock, Texas.

A memorial has been established with Andover Health Care Center, 621 W. 21st, Andover 67002. Downing & Lahey Mortuary East had charge.

Linda Spangler

Linda J. Spangler, 51, of Valley Center, died April 7, 2004. Private family burial.

She was born July 28, 1952, in Newton, the daughter of George L. Spangler and Louise Roe. They preceded her in death.

Survivors include her aunts, Betty Darbe of Lincoln, Florence Handley of Burr Oak, Lucille Shepler, Adeline Spangler, both of Peabody, Ethel Spangler of Wichita; and numerous cousins.

Petersen Funeral Home had charge.

Loyd Pennington

Loyd Uell Pennington, 80, of Wichita, commercial boat dock owner and operator, died April 10, 2004. He was a former Valley Center resident. Service was April 13 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Capitola, and a daughter, Judy Bakker.

Survivors include his sons, Floyd, Ben, both of Wichita, Ed of Sedan, Joe of New Port Ritchie, Fla.; brothers, Arvel Pennington of Harveille, Mo., Carl Pennington of Gallao, mo.; sisters, Norma Hager, Evelyn Terry, both of Harveille, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
