LARNED - Naomi Maxine Lewis, 78, died March 10 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. She was born Jan. 30, 1923, in Plainville, the daughter of Frank and Pearl McCune Bedwell. She married Lloyd G. Lewis July 21, 1939, in Bisbee, Ariz. A resident of Larned since 1943, she was a retired mental health technician. Mrs. Lewis was a member of First United Methodist Church in Larned and Eastern Star of Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Gerald Lewis and Richard L. Lewis, both of Larned, and Steven Lewis of Roeland Park; one brother, Roy Bedwell of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by one brother, Morgan Bedwell; four sisters, Marie Reeves, Velma Cowart, Henretta Sanders and Marietta Bedwell. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Larned cemetery with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Memorials are suggested to the church or Welcome Inn, both in care of the funeral home.

Ralph E. Dixon 1932-2001
STERLING - Ralph E. Dixon, 69, died March 8 at Lyons District Hospital in Lyons. He was born Feb. 12, 1932, in Wichita, the son of William Curtis and Edna Mae Greenwell Dixon. He married Martha Burns Nov. 27, 1959, in Perryton, Texas. A longtime resident of Sterling and Alden, he was a retired oil field driller. Dixon was a member of AARP and Eagles Lodge, both of Hutchinson. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Ralph Dixon II and Randy B. Dixon, both of Hutchinson; one daughter, Doris Jean King of Hutchinson; one sister, Lois "Betty" Hastings of Elk City; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a infant daughter and a infant granddaughter, Rebecca Barnett. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home in Sterling. Burial will be at Sterling Community cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Foundation, both in care of the funeral home.

Mary L. Evers 1932-2001
Mary L. Evers, 68, died March 9 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born March 28, 1932, in Barton County, the daughter of Fred and Selma Brack Brack. She married Kenneth L. Evers May 27, 1950, in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend, she was a bookkeeper for Evers TV. Mrs. Evers was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Sharnon Pivonka of Great Bend and Margaret Darkis of Wichita; one sister, Etta Brack of Lakewood, Colo.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great Bend with the Rev. Dr. Gary W. Teske officiating. Inurnment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of the funeral chapel.

Clarence 'C.J.' Metzen 1908-2001
WELLINGTON - Clarence "C.J." Metzen, 93, died March 9 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington. He was born March 1, 1908, in St. Mark's, the son of Joseph and Anna Roth Metzen. He married Sis McCreary Feb. 22, 1954, in Wellington. A resident of Wellington for 26 years, coming from Mayfield, he was a former owner of Mayfield Grocery and Locker and of Metzen's Liquor Store. Metzen was a member of St. Anthony-St. Rose Parish, past grand knight of Knights of Columbus, served on the Mayfield recreation commission, the Mayfield school board, Mayfield township board and BPOE 1167. Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Dennis W. Metzen and Ronald D. Metzen, both of Mayfield, John W. Metzen of Great Bend and Raymond E. Metzen of Wellington; five daughters, Marilyn A. Cook of Dighton, Betty Lucas, Darlene K. Collburn and Pat M. Robinson, all of Wellington, and Sheryl J. Shephard of Anaheim, Calif.; two brothers, Gene Metzen of Mayfield and Leo Metzen of Cheney; three sisters, Bertha Nollenberger of Medford, Okla., Bernetta Burnsden of Douglas and Mildred Zoglmann of Garden Plain; 28 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Metzen and Norbert Metzen; and two grandchildren. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Frank Funeral Home in Wellington. The family will greet friends from 6-7 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Wellington Knights of Columbus or Mayfield Recreation Commission, both in care of the funeral home.

Emil Dietz 1911-2001
RUSSELL - Emil Dietz, 89, died March 9 at Integrated Health Services Nursing Home in Moore, Okla. He was Aug. 1, 1911, in Russell County, the son of Ferdinand and Pauline Karst Dietz. He married Ruth Dumler Feb. 7, 1932. She died Sept. 5, 1990. A resident of Russell, he was a farmer and stockman. Dietz was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. Survivors include one son, Eugene Dietz of Russell; and two daughters, Merna Holkum of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Dorothy Dolechek of Hoisington. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church in Russell with the Rev. Henry Hartman officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran cemetery in rural Russell. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, both at Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell, and from 1 p.m. to service time Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran cemetery or the church, both in care of the funeral home.

Genevieve Clothier 1910-2001
STAFFORD - Genevieve Clothier, 90, died March 11 at Leisure Homestead in Stafford. She was born Sept. 2, 1910, near Sylvia, the daughter of Larren L. and Iva G. Green Gaston. She graduated from Sylvia High School. She received a bachelor's of arts degree in elementary education from Oklahoma State Teachers College in Alva, Okla. She married Virgil C. Clothier April 17, 1937. He died April 7, 1953. A resident of Stafford, she was an elementary teacher for four years in Oklahoma and 22 years in Stafford. Mrs. Clothier was a member of national and state teachers associations and the BPW. Survivors include two sons, Gary L. Clothier and Marvin G. Clothier, both of Pittsburg; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Gaston and Boyd Gaston. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Stafford with the Rev. Richard Foster officiating. Burial will be at Peace Creek cemetery in rural Stafford. Friends may call from 7-8:30 tonight at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Norman J. Jordan 1957-2001
WICHITA - Norman J. Jordan, 43, died March 4 in Wichita. He was born April 14, 1957, in Frankfurt, Germany, the son Carol Hopkins, adopted by Jack and Frances Jordan. A resident of Wichita, he was a machine operator, a volunteer fireman and a National Guard sergeant. Survivors include his mother, Frances Jordan of Savonburg; his biological mother, Carol Hopkins of Ellinwood; two brothers, Douglas Crumrine of Wichita and Anthony Hopkins of Ellinwood; and four sisters, Brenda Mealman of Topeka, Bonnie Wiles of Fayetteville, Ark., Lee Ann Cassidy of Dalhart, Texas, and Shelia Haehn of Wichita. Funeral were March 9 at Friends Lutheran Church in Savonburg. Burial was at Chanute. Lakeview Funeral Home in Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

Patrick R. Hockett 1964-2001
SATANTA - Patrick R. Hockett, 37, died March 8 at his home in Neosho, Mo. He was born March 2, 1964, in Hays, the son of Elwin and Betty Reimer Hockett. He attended Satanta High School. He married Heather Labaron March 4, 2000, in Grove, Okla. A resident of Neosho, coming from Satanta, he was self-employed. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Ryan Hockett of Joplin, Mo.; his mother and stepfather, Thayne Wright of Satanta; his stepmother, Hillie Hockett of Miami, Fla.; one brother, Kelly Hockett of Sacramento, Calif.; his grandparents, Juanita Love and Art and Velma Hockett, all of Satanta. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Happy Agers Center in Satanta with the Rev. Larry Myers officiating. Cremation has taken place. Haskell County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nellie M. Conwell 1909-2001
ELLINWOOD - Nellie M. Conwell, 91, died March 13 at Integrated Health Services, Woodhaven in Ellinwood. She was born Sept. 19, 1909, in South Haven, the daughter of Wesley and Anna May King Robinson. She married Richard Andrew Conwell Dec. 31, 1932, in South Haven. He died April 3, 1967. A resident of Ellinwood for 60 years, coming from Chase, she was a retired co-owner of Dick's Engine in Ellinwood and a homemaker. Mrs. Conwell was a member of United Methodist Church of Ellinwood. Survivors include one son, Richard Conwell of Great Bend; two daughters, Sondra Wise of Ellinwood and Sherry Johnson of Great Bend; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, T.A. Robinson and Dayrl Robinson; one sister, Violet Butler; and one grandson, Randy Wise. Private family graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood with the Rev. Jim Newkirk officiating. Friends may call from 5-9 tonight at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Ellinwood Meals on Wheels or AAU Track Clubs of Ellinwood or Great Bend, all in care of the funeral home.

Mildred Warner 1914-2001
BURDETT - Mildred Warner, 86, died March 13 at Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley. She was born Dec. 5, 1914, in Daniel, Wyo., the daughter of Webster and Elizabeth Poole Frymire. She married Glen R. Warner July 23, 1933. He died June 28, 2000. A resident of Burdett since 1935, coming from Lawrence, she was a bookkeeper and parts manager for Warner Implement Company in Burdett. Mrs. Warner was a member of Burdett United Methodist Church, Faith Fellowship Church in Gray, Burdett United Church Women and the Burdett Seniors. She was a Sunday school teacher and youth leader. Survivors include two daughters, Cleo Gorman of Burdett and Inita Palumbo of Rockwall, Texas; one sister, Zelma Brown of Cody, Wyo.g; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sons, Glen Eugene Warner and Robert Leon Warner; one brother, Webster "Junior" Frymire; and one sister, Marie Frymire. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Faith Fellowship Church in Gray with the Rev. Irving Jennings officiating. Burial will be at Browns Grove cemetery in Burdett. Friends may call unitl 8 tonight, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, all at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Memorials are suggested to Burdett United Methodist Church, Burdett EMS, Burdett Senior Center or Pawnee Heights Enhancement Fund, all in care of the mortuary.

Sara L. Folsom 1907-2001
Sara L. Folsom, 93, of Great Bend died March 13 at Rush County Longterm Care in La Crosse. She was born Nov. 6, 1907, in Longford, the daughter of Gershom and Annie Baah Ware. She married Clarence Folsom April 28, 1930, in Clay Center. He died June 22, 1991. A resident of Great Bend, she was a clerk and seamstress for Isern-Lutschg, worked at Reisbig's Clothing Store and was a school teacher. Mrs. Folsom was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women, both of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Ora L. Folsom of Great Bend; one daughter, Margaret L. Edwards of Bison; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert W. Folsom; two brothers, Charles Ware and Horace Ware; and three sisters, Harriett Toothaker, Margaret Steward and Ann Headley. Funeral will be at 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great Bend with the Rev. Tom Robson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 tonight, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at the chapel. The family will recieve friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Vincent D. Simmons 1916-2001
LARNED - Vincent D. Simmons, 84, died March 14 at his home in Larned. He was born April 7, 1916, in Larned, the son of Dennis and Laura Gust Simmons. He married Grace Bird Jan. 18, 1938, in Larned. A lifetime resident of Larned, he was a retired auto-parts salesman. Simmons was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Larned. Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Vincent H. Simmons of Garden City, Jerome Simmons of Olathe, Joseph Simmons and Kevin Simmons, both of Larned, and Patrick Simmons of Howard; three daughters, Lavada Rowe of Scranton, Veronica Holloman of Topeka and Monica Schneweis of Dodge City; 25 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Parish vigil will be at 7 tonight at the church in Larned. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. Burial will be at Larned cemetery. Friends may call until 6:30 p.m. tonight at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Geraldine Leona Stafford 1925-2001
TURON - Geraldine Leona Stafford, 75, died March 15 at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. She was born July 26, 1925, in Gaylord, the daughter of Louis and Amanda Wolf Bechtold. She was a 1943 graduate of Formoso High School. She married Earl Stafford Jr. July 24, 1944, in Beloit. A resident of Turon, coming from Larned, she was a retired secretary for the Pawnee County Engineer's Office. Mrs. Stafford was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Larned. Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Richard Stafford of Ulysses and Stanley Stafford of Olathe; two daughters, Joan Green of Turon and Diane Stafford of Texarkana, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Bechtold; two sisters, Aileen Layland and Wilma Bechtold; and one great-granddaughter, Holly Green. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned with Dr. Edmond Nash officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Caldwell cemetery in Formoso. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Gilbert O. Suelter 1910-2001
ELLSWORTH - Gilbert O. Suelter, 90, died March 15 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born March 23, 1910, in Lincoln County, the son of Paul and Martha Steinhaus Suelter. He married Evelyn Pflughoeft Oct. 16, 1940, in Ellsworth. She died April 23, 1990. A resident of Great Bend for six months, coming from Ellsworth, he was a farm-machinery salesman for Lloyd Implement in Ellsworth. Suelter was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6485 and American Legion Post 174, all of Ellsworth. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include one son, Robert Suelter of Great Bend; three brother, Loren Suelter and Adolph Suelter, both of Salina, and Lewis Suelter of Lincoln; one sister, Frieda Schultz of Lincoln; two grandchildren; and one step-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ed Suelter, Elmer Suelter and Paul Suelter. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church in Ellsworth with the Rev. Gary Wolf officiating. Burial will be at Ellsworth cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth and until service time Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.
