Dorothy A. Hoss
1923 - 2007

Dorothy A. Hoss, 83, of Great Bend died
Jan. 27 at Central Kansas Medical
Center. Born Aug. 7, 1923, in Stafford
County, she was the daughter of Joseph
Matthew and Anna Loretta Stroble Hall.
She married Paul L. Hoss on Nov. 27,
1946, at St. Francis Xavier in Seward. He
survives. A resident of Great Bend most
of her life, coming from Seward, she
received her teaching certificate at St.
Mary of the Plains College of Dodge City.
Mrs. Hoss was a member of Prince of
Peace Parish at St. Rose and Altar
Society. She was a homemaker, school
teacher and nurses’ aide.
Survivors include her husband of the
home; three sons, Don Hoss and wife
Anita of Overland Park, Tim Hoss and
wife Deborah of Stafford and Kent Hoss
of Great Bend; five daughters, Paula Sue
Rixon and husband Kent of St. John,
Barbara Shirk and husband Layne,
Deanna Martinez and husband Tony, all
of Great Bend, Mary Alice Jones of
Sterling and Jane Bowers and husband
Robert of Ottawa; one brother, Frank
Hall of Downey, Calif.; one sister, Mary
Ann Unruh of Los Angeles, Calif.; 22
grandchildren and 16 great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by a son, Daniel Paul Hoss.
Altar society Rosary will be at 4 p.m. and
Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m., all today at
Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service
will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St.
Patrick Catholic Church with Father
Reginald A. Urban officiating. Burial will
be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in
Seward. Friends may call at the funeral
home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to Holy Family
School Endowment Fund or CKMC
Foundation for the benefit of Heartland
Cancer Center.

Fern M. Trapp
1914 - 2007

SUSANK — Fern M. Trapp, 93, died Jan.
27 at Cheyenne Meadows Living Center
in Hoisington. Born Jan. 5, 1914, in rural
Barton County, she was the daughter of
Fred G. and Margaret E. (Buhrle) Hall.
She married Elmer H. Trapp on Aug. 2,
1936, in Russell. He died Jan. 8, 1993. A
longtime resident of Susank, she was a
homemaker and bookkeeper for Susank
Oil Company, retiring in 1981.
Mrs. Trapp attended Friends Church at
Shannon in southern Russell County,
Beaver Friends Church in Beaver and
Vine United Methodist Church. After
these churches closed she joined First
United Methodist Church in Hoisington.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Trapp
and wife Patty of Susank; 10
grandchildren, Ellen Berry and husband
Roger of Russell, Roseann Thorne and
husband Jack Brewer of Nevada, Mo.,
Lois Dean and husband Mark of Great
Bend, Carla Dietz of Fayetteville, Ark.,
Jonathan Dietz and Mo of Topeka, Patrick
Trapp and wife Theresa, Denise Simpson
and husband Dave, all of Hays, Andrew
Trapp and wife Stacy of Goddard, Meg
Huston and husband Paul of Fort Hood,
Texas, and Nolan Trapp of Susank; 10
great-grandchildren; and one great-
great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a
daughter, Betty E. Dietz; a brother,
Lawrence Hall; and a grandson, Alan
Trapp.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m.
Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral
Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Wayne
Flanders officiating. Burial will be at the
Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call
from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with family
receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.,
and 9 a.m. until service time on
Wednesday, all at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Southwind
Hospice or First United Methodist Church
in Hoisington in care of the funeral
home.

Charles “Chuck” Ulrey
1968 - 2007

LARNED — Charles “Chuck” Ulrey, 38,
died Jan. 28 at his residence in Larned.
Born March 9, 1968, in Hoisington, he
was the son of Charles F. “Butch” and
Loretta (Connor) Ulrey. A longtime
Larned resident, he was an avid
outdoorsman.
Survivors include his mother, Loretta
Ulrey of Larned; one son, Jonathan
Maurice of Lyons; two daughters,
Amanda Marie Ulrey and Jennifer Lynn
Ulrey, both of Lyons; four stepbrothers,
Larry McNutt of Dunlap, Iowa, Jason
McNutt of Bedford, Iowa, Bret McNutt of
Mount Ayr, Iowa, and Robert McNutt of
Grant City, Iowa; and his mother’s
companion, Marvin McNutt of Larned. He
was preceded in death by his father,
Charles “Butch” Ulrey.
A memorial service will be held at a later
date, conducted by Father David Flagor.
There will be no visitation, as cremation
has taken place. Memorials are
suggested to the children’s education
fund in care of the funeral home.

Rev. Tony R. Horsley
1948 - 2007

DOWNS — The Rev. Tony R. Horsley, 58,
died Jan. 28. He was born Feb. 3, 1948,
at Sulfur, Okla. He was a minister.
Survivors include two sons, Chris Horsley
of Wake Forest, N.C., and David Horsley
of Solomon; a daughter, Katrina Mason
of St. George; a brother, Wayne Horsley
of Denton, Texas; and eight
grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m.
Thursday at the Methodist Church in
Downs. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial donations may be made to the
Tony R. Horsley Memorial Fund in care of
the funeral home.

J. Wilhelmine Mohr
1914 - 2007

ALBERT — J. Wilhelmine Mohr, 92, died
Jan. 22 at Loma Linda University Medical
Center in Loma Linda, Calif. She was
born Sept. 29, 1914, at Leonardville, the
daughter of Lawrence L. and Frankie E.
Olson Kunze. She married Willis C. Mohr
at Enterprise on Nov. 5, 1935. He died
Feb. 5, 2001. A longtime resident of rural
Rush County, she was a homemaker and
farm wife.
She belonged to the Seventh-day
Adventist Church, La Crosse.
Survivors include four sons, Harold E. of
Abilene, Everett L. of Loma Linda, Calif.,
Theodore W. of Redlands, Calif., and
Robert J. of Deshler, Neb.; two
daughters, Carletta L. Bender and
Felicitas Dawson, both of Loma Linda; 10
grandchildren and 12 great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by three brothers, Wayne Kunze,
Edward Kunze and Robert Kunze, and
one sister, Josephine Meek.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday at the
Seventh-day Adventist Church in La
Crosse, with Pastor Ed Jumper officiating.
Burial was in the Shaffer SDA Cemetery
at Otis. Memorials may be sent to
Enterprise Academy in care of Morell
Funeral Home, P.O. Box 124, Larned, KS

Ray K. Meyeres
1934 - 2007

Harris. She married Finley Leroy Likes at
Miami, Okla., on Feb. 13, 1959. He died
Jan. 27, 2006. A longtime resident of
Garfield, she was a retired registered
nurse at Larned State Hospital.
She belonged to the United Methodist
Church and United Methodist Women,
both of Garfield.
Survivors include two sons, John
McConnell of Kent, Wash., and Scott
Likes of Kansas City, Kan.; three
daughters, Bobbi Bohnert of Gilbert,
Ariz., Sherry Braun of Spokane, Wash.,
and Lisa Hall of Lawrence; a sister,
Gertrude Moorhead, of Tecumseh; two
brothers, Wayne Harris of Lampasas,
Texas, and Rick Harris of Gilbert, Ariz;
14 grandchildren and five great-
granddaughters. She was preceded in
death by her infant son, Joseph
McConnell.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m.
Saturday at the United Methodist Church,
Garfield, with Pastor Ken Walker and the
Rev. John McConnell presiding. There will
be no visitation. Inurnment will be in the
Vansburg Cemetery at Brownell. In lieu
of flowers, memorials may be sent to the
United Methodist Church, Garfield, or
Kansas City Hospice in care of Morell
Funeral Home, P.O. Box 124, Larned, KS
67550-0124.

Calvin Keith Roberts
1925 - 2007

HUTCHINSON — Calvin Keith Roberts,
81, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 2,
2006, at Integris Bass Hospital, Enid,
Okla. He was born on June 30, 1925, in
rural Harvey County, the son of Ray C.
and Lydia E. Smith Roberts, Sr. He
graduated from Hutchinson High School
in 1942. He served in the U. S. Navy
during World War II. He spent most of
his life working in the oilfield drilling
industry in Kansas and Oklahoma. After
retiring from the oilfield he started a
lawn-mowing business in Woodward,
Okla. During his life he resided in Great
Bend, Hutchinson and Liberal, and in
Woodward and Enid, Okla.
On Jan. 27, 1948, he married Ann Goetz
in Cunningham. She survives. On July 5,
1969, he married Dolly Delma Lawrence
in Hutchinson. She passed away on Aug.
10, 2002. He is survived by three sons,
Kenneth Roberts and his wife Diana,
Great Bend, Bill Teaney, Hutchinson, and
Jim Teaney and his wife Amy,
Manhattan; five daughters, Carla Hanson
and her husband Richard, of Liberal,
Audrey McLain and her husband William,
of Kremlin, Okla., Betty Slife and her
husband Larry, of Hutchinson, Jean
Rohrer and her husband Vernon, of
Woodward, Okla., and Jerie Lawrence of
Edmond, Okla.; 24 grandchildren and 26
great-grandchildren; and four brothers,
Ray Roberts, Jr., of Sylvia, Elmer
Roberts, Lamar, Colo., Herbert Roberts,
Tonganoxie, and Delbert Roberts,
Woodward, Okla. He was preceded in
death by his wife Delma, parents, a
brother, a sister, a grandson and a
great-grandson.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30
p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Penwell-Gabel
Cemetery & Mausoleum, Hutchinson,
with the Rev. Paul Thurston officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home &
Crematory. Memorials may be given to
the American Cancer Society in care of
the funeral home.
