ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Dr. William C. Shuey, 83, of St. Petersburg, Fla., passed away June 26, 2008, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was born in Emporia. He moved to the St. Petersburg area in the 1990’s from Alexandria, Va. William was a World War II Army Veteran. From 1943-1945, he was an Airborne Paratrooper and fought at the Battle of the Bulge.
He worked for General Mills as a cereal technologist for 15 years and was later employed by the USDA until his retirement.
In 1970, Dr. William C. Shuey was the recipient of The Carl Wilhelm Brabender International Award; this award honors the distinguished contributions to the application of Rheology in Milling and Baking.
He is survived by his daughters Rhoda Brumfield of Cincinnati, Ohio; Sheri Shuey of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Becky Burkholder of West Unity, Ohio; and Michal Kays of Rochester, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at the Central Christian Church St. Petersburg, Fla.
Visitation will also be held at the church beginning at 11:30 a.m. Beach Memorial Chapel St. Pete Beach, Fla., (727) 360-5577, is in charge of arrangements.

CHAPMAN -- Jill Ann Jacquet, 42, of Ladson, S.C., died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at the Hospice Center of Charleston, S.C.
She was born Nov. 18, 1965, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Oakley Everett and Dorothy Gaul Case. She attended grade school in Rhode Island and graduated in 1983 from Rutherford High School in Panama City, Fla.
She married Paul Anthony Jacquet on Oct. 15, 1998, in Panama City, Fla. They have been living in South Carolina since 2002.
Mrs. Jacquet attended cosmetology school and worked as a cosmetologist for MasterCuts and SportClips. She was a member of St. John the Beloved Catholic Church in Summerville, S.C.
Survivors include her husband, Paul, of the home in Ladson, S.C.; one daughter, Lindsey Turnmeyer, and two sons, Matthew Turnmeyer and Elijah Jacquet, all of Ladson, S.C.; one sister, Colleen Case of Panama City, Fla.; two brothers, Barry Case of Summerville, S.C., and Kevin Case of Farmington, N.M.; and her father and mother-in-law, Rodger and Mary Jacquet of Chapman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oakley and Dorothy Case.
A memorial funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Chapman. Father Henry Baxa will officiate. Burial of the ashes will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in rural Chapman.

SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- Col. Leon Eugene Everhart, 80, of Santa Maria, Calif., died Saturday, June 21, 2008, in Santa Maria. He was a former Gypsum resident.
He was born Jan. 14, 1928 in Abilene. He graduated from Gypsum High School, attended Kansas State College and received a bachelor of science degree with distinction in aerospace engineering from Arizona State College in 1957.
He had an extensive military career, including serving as an operations officer at the Berlin Air Safety Center; project officer at the Missile Development Center of Holloman Air Force Base; tactical fighter pilot and flight commander in South Vietnam, and numerous other assignments. He was a retired colonel with the U.S. Air Force after serving in Korea, Turkey, Italy, Germany and Vietnam. He was a member of the Gypsum United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a sister-in-law and three nieces.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today (Monday) at Gypsum United Methodist Church, 524 King, Gypsum, KS 67448. Pastor Dan Curnutt officiated. Burial was in Gypsum Cemetery, Gypsum, with military honors provided by McConnell Air Force Base.

Ray H. Wright, 86, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.
He was born July 30, 1921, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Harvey and Ellen Kellog Wright. He graduated from high school in Kansas City, then entered the United States Marine Corps, serving as a pilot in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married Dee McCune on May 11, 1996.
He was employed by the United States Post Office for several years. He then became an air traffic controller at Joliet, Ill., later moving to Salina where he was involved in flight operations.
Mr. Wright was a member of the Salina and Manhattan Churches of Christ, the Kiwanis and the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Dee, of Manhattan; three sons, Tom Wright of Topeka, Ron Wright of Phoenix, Ariz. and Randy Wright of Albuquerque, N.M.; one stepson, Craig Haldeman of Manhattan; one stepdaughter, Judy Boyd of Abilene; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one stepson.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Danner Funeral Home with Jimmie Keas officiating. Interment will be in the Henry Cemetery north of Abilene.
The family will receive friends at the Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Buckeye, Abilene, one hour prior to service.

EMPORIA — Emilie Jo Cutting Peters, 78, of Emporia, died Aug. 17, 2008, at Newman Regional Health Center, Emporia.
She was born Jan. 21, 1930 in Abilene, the daughter of William and Cathrine “Mearl” (Miller) Goodell. She graduated from the University of Kansas.
She married James Earl Cutting in 1951 in Abilene. They later divorced. She then married Elmer Peters on Feb. 24, 1978 in Emporia. He preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 2007.
She was a founder of The Retarded Children’s Center in Emporia and worked to start the Hetlinger Sheltered Workshop for young adults and adult community members.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, served as Past Guardian of Bethel #4 in Emporia and worked with Job’s Daughters for many years, was past state president of Parent’s Without Partners (PWP) and was instrumental in the development of the PWP Emporia chapter.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Peters was a dietician’s assistant at St. Mary’s Hospital in Emporia. Previously, she worked at Stanley Jewelry Store.
Survivors include one daughter, Cathyanne Hargreaves of Olathe; two stepsons, Gordon Peters of Emporia and Alan Peters of Eminence, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Leigh Ann Miller of Mayetta; one sister, Jacquie Wallace of Abilene; three granddaughters, nine stepgrandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Jo Cutting.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at the Emporia Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Mike Sorsen officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia.
Family visitation will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.

Golda Rock, 90, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Casper, Wyo.
She was born June 25, 1918, at Zenith, Kan., where she grew to womanhood. She attended Breese College in Hutchinson and Bethany Nazarene College in Oklahoma.
She married Clinton A. Rock Jr. on May 23, 1937. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2001.
Since both she and her husband were ordained ministers in the Nazarene Church they served churches in Oklahoma, Wyoming, Nebraska and Kansas. They moved to the Brown Memorial Home, Abilene, in 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Paris of Cody, Wyo., and Gayla Meroniuk of Barrons Alberta, Canada; one son, Clinton A. Rock III of Casper, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, at the Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Buckeye, Abilene. The Rev. C.R. Glidden officiating. Interment will be in the Brown Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the Danner Funeral Home.

CLAY CENTER — Richard Charles Schreefer, 81, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008. at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center.
He was born June 4, 1927, at Upland, the son of Harline and Clara (Sautter) Schreefer. He was raised in the Upland community and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He married May Adams on April 20, 1948. They farmed and raised livestock north of Clay Center and later in the Wakefield community. He also worked at Fort Riley for many years.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and BPOE in Clay Center and the Wakefield VFW.
Survivors include one son, Mark Schreefer of Wakefield; two daughters, Lana Stoddard of Manhattan and Sue Bebermeyer of Clay Center; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, May, on March 21, 1999; one son, Gregory, in 1963; one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Clay Center, with the Rev. Susan Sawyer officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Clay Center.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, 918 Seventh Street, Clay Center.

HERINGTON — Lori L. Murray, 50, of Chapman, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at her home.
She was born Jan. 25, 1958, in Salina, the daughter of Arthur H. and Leola M. (Pauli) Ninneman. She graduated in 1976 from Herington High School and later received an associate degree from Brown-Mackey Business College in Salina.
She married Mark N. Murray on June 18, 1977, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Herington.
Mrs. Murray was an antique dealer. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Herington.
Survivors include her husband, Mark, of the home; and her mother, Leola Ninneman of Herington.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Ninneman, on Dec. 18, 1975.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Herington, with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Frances A. Godwin, 73, died Saturday evening, Aug. 23, 2008, at Enterprise Estates Nursing Home.
She was born Dec. 2, 1934, at Phoenix City, Ala., the daughter of Milton and Ruth Mitchell Allen. She grew to womanhood in Opp, Ala., and graduated in 1952 from Opp High School.
She married Charles Davis and they made their home in Elba, Ala. She was a seamstress for 25 years for Alatex Manufacturing making men’s shirts.
They were divorced in 1980. She then married Benjamin Godwin. They made their home in Glenwood, Ala. He preceded her in death in 1984.
For several years, she was a volunteer juvenile probation officer with the State of Alabama.
She moved to Abilene in 1991 and to Enterprise in 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Joy Pearson and Jenny Davis of Enterprise; two sons, Michael Charles Davis of Charlotte, N.C., and Mitchell Davis of Opp, Ala.; one sister, Wynette Allen of Dothan, Ala.; two brothers, Tommy Allen of New York, N.Y.; and Roland Davis of Columbus, Ga.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at the Wyatt Funeral Home in Opp, Ala.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the Wyatt Funeral Home.

ONAGA — Winona M. Koelling, 67, of Onaga, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at the Community Hospital in Onaga.
She was born April 10, 1941, in Abilene, the daughter of the Rev. Floyd and Ada McClanahan Atkinson. She was a wife, mother and homemaker.
She married Dale E. Koelling on Jan. 27, 1957, in Abilene. He died Sept. 16, 2000.
She was a member of the United Brethren Church of Christ in Abilene and attended First Congregational United Church of Christ in Onaga. She also was a member of the Vermillion Red Hat Society.
Survivors include one daughter, Sallie Hartner of Clay Center; three sons, Doug Koelling of Topeka, Eddy Koelling of Wamego and Duke Koelling of Topeka; one sister, Sarah Kuntz of Abilene; two brothers, Gerald Atkinson of Abilene and Floyd Warren Atkinson of Spring Park, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the First Congregational UCC in Onaga. Burial will follow in the Onaga Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday at Tessendorf-Chapel Oaks Funer-al Home, 218 Leonard, Onaga. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

HERINGTON — Darcy O. Volkman, 57, of Burdick, died Monday, June 30, 2008, in Herington.
He was born March 5, 1951, in Herington, the son of Jack H. and Annabelle L. (Olson) Volkman. He graduated in 1969 from Herington High School.
Mr. Volkman worked as a butcher for the Burdick Meat Locker and First Choice Meats of Herington. Before moving to Herington, he worked for 15 years in the oil fields near Canton as a pumper. He moved from Durham to Burdick in 2000.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheri Otte and Lynn Volkman, both of Galva; a brother, Stacy Volkman of Harlingen, Texas; and three sisters, Jacell Blubaugh of Mt. Vernon, Wash., Jacklyn Wilson of Everett, Wash., and Linay Jones of Herington.
A graveside inurnment service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at the Woodbine Cemetery. Pastor Bill Peterson will officiate.

She was born E. June Eisele on June 24, 1930, in Carlton.
She worked as admissions director and executive administration secretary for Brown Mackie School of Business for 32 years.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Day and Mike Day, both of Salina; a daughter, Connie Berry of Salina; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Day, in 1978; a son, Paul Day, in 1999; and a granddaughter, Becky Day, in 2001.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight (Monday) at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the mortuary. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Salina.
