Clarence Deutsch
1922 - 2007
HOISINGTON — Clarence Deutsch, 84,
died March 25 at his daughter’s house
surrounded by family. Born April 15,
1922, in Susank, he was the son of
Jonathan and Mary E. Bitter Deutsch. He
married Doris J. Keil on July 27, 1946, at
Milberger. She preceded him in death on
Jan. 3, 1969. He then married Jeanetta
Rose Stalcup on Feb. 26, 1979, in Miami,
Okla. She survives. A lifetime resident of
Barton County, he was a retired owner of
Vickers Highway Service in Hoisington.
Deutsch was a World War II Army
veteran, with the rank of Private First
Class, and recipient of a Bronze Star and
three Bronze Service Stars. He was a
member of Concordia Lutheran Church in
Hoisington, Extreme Hope Christian
Fellowship in Great Bend and Hoisington
Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 7428.
He loved Jesus and his family and was an
avid outdoorsman and loved to fish.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Ellen
Joiner and husband Mike of Great Bend;
a granddaughter, Samantha Joiner of
Great Bend; a grandson, Gabe Joiner of
Great Bend; three stepdaughters,
Cynthia Cornell of Kingsville, Texas, Alina
Christopher of Great Bend and Diana
Mead of Hoisington; a stepson, Harold
Dean Brack of Hutchinson; seven
stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-
grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by five brothers, Leo, Armin, Vernon,
Otto and Alvin Deutsch; and two sisters,
Rosa Kraft and Elsie Ochs.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m.
Wednesday at Extreme Hope Christian
Fellowship in Great Bend with Mike Joiner
officiating. Burial will be at the
Hoisington Cemetery with military
graveside rites by VFW Post No. 7428
and American Legion Post No. 286,
Hoisington. Friends may call from 1 to 8
p.m. today with the family receiving
friends from 6 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday
from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., all at Nicholson-
Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, and
from 1 p.m to service time at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Extreme
Hope Christian Fellowship or the
American Heart Association in care of the
funeral home.

Sherman C. Nystrom
1926 - 2007
DALLAS — Sherman C. Nystrom, born in
Garfield on Aug. 5, 1926, passed away at
his home in Dallas on March 23. He was
preceded in death by his wife Florence M.
Nystrom and grandson Kyle David
Nystrom. Sherman, a professor of
biology, taught for more than 40 years in
Great Bend and Wichita.
He was a member of VASA Lodge No.
716, the American Legion more than 59
years, the Elks Lodge and the Over 55
club at Bethel Lutheran Church, where
he and Florence were longtime members.
Survivors include his children, Dr. Bruce
Nystrom and wife Judy of Wichita and
Kristine Tolls and husband Myron of
Dallas; grandchildren Capt. Jared
Nystrom and his wife Pamela, stationed
in Germany, Anne Nystrom, Kendra
Nystrom and Cody Tolls.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today
at Bethel Lutheran Church, 11211 E.
Northwest Hwy. in Dallas, with Pastor
Randy Haedge officiating. A memorial
service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday
at the Beckwith Mortuary in Larned.
Memorials are suggested to the American
Diabetes Association.

Jesse “Shakey” Wolfenbarger
1937 - 2007
HOISINGTON — Jesse “Shakey”
Wolfenbarger, 69, died March 24 at his
home in Hoisington. Born May 18, 1937,
in Farmington, Ark., he was the son of
Burt and Dora (Tuttle) Wolfenbarger. A
Hoisington resident for the past 12
years, coming from Covington, Okla., he
was the former owner of Shakey’s Place
in Covington.
Wolfenbarger was a member of Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post No. 7428 in
Hoisington.
Survivors include a son, Bobby of
Tonkawa, Okla.; two stepsons, Terry
Stoope of Enid, Okla., and Jerry Stoope
of Isabelle, Okla.; a brother, Harley
Wolfenbarger of California; two sisters,
Evelyn Bowers of California and Jeanne
Doss of Stillwell, Okla.; and two
grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by a brother, Rusty Wolfenbarger.
Cremation has taken place and a
memorial service will be at a later date.

1941 - 2007
Genevieve Gayle “Jeanne” Chism, 65,
died March 26 at Leisure Homestead of
St. John, in St. John. She was born Nov.
22, 1941, at Wichita, the daughter of
Lester G. and Geneva Nickerson
Pinkston. A resident of Great Bend since
1997, coming from Pawnee Rock, she
was a caregiver for Rosewood Services of
Great Bend.
She was a member of Peace Church in
Hudson.
Survivors include two sons, Charles
Chism and wife Jerrie, Great Bend, and
DeWayne Chism, Seward; two
daughters, Arlene Rankin, Great Bend,
and Erlene Halzle and husband Scott, St.
John; a sister, Caroline C.C. McDaniel,
Great Bend; eight grandchildren, Travis
Chism, Stacie Murray, Sarah Chism,
Jaimee Chism, Darrin Halzle, Kadie
Halzle, Tim Chism and Shannon Chism;
and numerous great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by a son, Eugene
Chism.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m.
Thursday at Peace Church in Hudson
with the Rev. Wade Russell officiating.
Interment will be at Peace Cemetery in
Hudson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to
9 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral

DAMAR — Gary Newell, 67, died March
22 at his home near Damar. Born Feb.
22, 1940, in rural Graham County, he
Goldie Faye Foskett 1931 - 2007
LORRAINE – Goldie Faye Foskett, 76,
died Nov. 22 at her home in Lorraine.
She was born Jan. 2, 1931, at Russell,
the daughter of Edwin and Mary Ruth
Rathbone Foiles. She married Harlan
Edward Foskett Sr. on Dec. 13, 1953, at
Great Bend. A resident of Lorraine for 28
years, coming from Ellsworth, she was a
certified nurse aide for 37 years.
Survivors include her husband, of the
home; six sons, Harlan Foskett Jr.,
Amarillo, Texas, Gary Foskett, Lyons,
Michael Foskett, Kingman, Randall
Foskett, Lyons, Keith Foskett, Lorraine,
and Stanley Foskett, Bazine; two
daughters, Deborah Berends, Great
Bend, and Sharan White, Lorraine; two
brothers, LeRoy Edwin Foiles, Newton,
and Ronald Foiles, Holyrood; two sisters,
Opal Queen, Colorado Springs, Colo.,
and Virginia Heath, Newton; 17
grandchildren and 17 great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by a brother, Lawrence Foiles, an
infant sister Irene Foiles, and sister
Verna Rice, and, on Nov. 22, 2007, by
her granddaughter, Kandy White.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at
Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with
Pastor George Redington officiating.
Interment will be in Great Bend
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.
to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with family
receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at the

Kandy Ann White
1984 - 2007
WINDOM – Kandy Ann White, 23, died
Nov. 22 at her residence in Windom. She
was born Oct. 20, 1984, at Fort Riley,
the daughter of Michael Lee and Sharan
Ruth Foskett White. She was a machine
operation for Nations Pizza, McPherson.
She was also a student at Kansas
Wesleyan University in Salina, with only
one semester left until graduation. She
had been a resident of Windom since
June 2007, coming from Lyons.
She was a member of the Lorraine
Baptist Church in Lorraine.
Survivors include her parents, of
Lorraine; and two sisters, Mary Ruth
White, Lyons, and Tina Marie White,
Salina. She was preceded in death by her
grandmother, Goldie Faye Foskett, on
Nov. 22, 2007.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at
Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with
Pastor George Redington officiating.
Interment will be in the Lorraine Baptist
Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be
from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with
family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.,
at the funeral home. Donations to the
Kandy White Memorial Fund may be sent
