Roy Crone
1922 - 2007

Roy Crone, 85, of Great Bend, died Nov.
19 at Central Kansas Medical Center,
Great Bend. He was born Feb. 19, 1922,
at White Earth, Minn., the son of Roy
Harrison and Grace Bevins Crone. He
married Hazel “Alberta” Payne in June of
1942. She survives. He was a livestock
broker and a resident of Barton County
most of his life.
He was a member of the Seventh-day
Adventist Church of Great Bend.
Survivors, besides his wife, of the home,
include two sons, Clifford Crone and Irvin
Crone, both of Great Bend; four
daughters, Virginia Jacobs, Hazel Grace
Johnson and Tammy Hammond, all of
rural Pawnee Rock, and Darlene Kaupke
of Stillwater, Okla.; one brother, Orville
Crone, of Fair Oaks, Calif.; 26
grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren
and 17 great-great-grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by a son, George
Crone, four brothers, George Crone, Jack
Crone, Irvin Crone and Bill Crone, two
sisters, Verna McVey and Esther Fowler,
and two grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday
at the Seventh-day Adventist Church,
Great Bend, with Pastor Jim Martin
officiating. Interment will be at Great
Bend Cemetery North. Visitation will be
from 1 to 5 p.m. today and 3 to 7 p.m.
Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great
Bend. Donations to a memorial fund for
the Rosewood Roots and Wings
Foundation may be made in care of the
funeral home.

Ruth Lillian Campbell
1926 - 2007

ST. JOHN — Ruth Lillian Campbell, 81,
died Nov. 19 at Hospice House in Pratt.
Born Oct. 17, 1926, at Wenatchee,
Wash., she was the daughter of Jim and
Essie (Hoyt) Keller. She was a 1944
graduate of St. John High School. She
married Eugene L. Campbell on May 7,
1948, at Ulysses. He survives. A resident
of the St. John area for most of her life,
she was a bookkeeper for Farm Bureau
Insurance, Art Gates Attorney and First
National Bank, all of St. John.
Mrs. Campbell was a member of the
Christian Church and Rebekahs Lodge,
both of St. John.
Survivors include her husband and a
daughter, Dianna L. Leonard and
husband Jim of Overland Park. She was
preceded in death by three brothers,
Paul, Wayne and Donald Keller.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on
Friday at Minnis Chapel in St. John with
Pastor Wade Russell presiding. Burial will
be at the Fairview Park Cemetery in St.
John. Friends may visit from 1 to 8 p.m.
today at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to the South Wind Hospice or
the M.S. Foundation, both in care of the
funeral home.

Harold U. Brack
1934 - 2007

OTIS — Harold U. Brack, 73, died Nov.
20 at Rush County Nursing Home, La
Crosse. He was born July 8, 1934, at
Great Bend, the son of Jacob Benjamin
and Pauline (Weber) Brack. Harold was a
farmer and mechanic. He was a lifetime
resident of rural Otis.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran
Church, Otis. He was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a son, Harold Dean
Brack, of Hutchinson; three daughters,
Cynthia Brack and Alina Christopher,
both of Great Bend, and Diana Mead of
Hoisington; a sister, Alta Spencer of
Woodward, Okla.; seven grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. There will be
no visitation or services. Memorials are
suggested to the Trinity Lutheran
Church, Otis, in care of Nicholson-Ricke
Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Carla Detherage
1948 - 2007

Carla Detherage, 58, of Great Bend, died
Nov. 18 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, Great Bend. She was born Nov.
23, 1948, at Russell, the daughter of
Robert and Belva Bealby Vonfeldt. She
was a graduate of Ellis High School and a
longtime resident of Great Bend. She
married Coyle Detherage in 1988 at
Miami, Okla. She was the financial
controller at Highland Hotel and
Convention Center. Previously, she spent
many years in bookkeeping and
accounting roles with Harper Builders.
Mrs. Detherage was a member of Prince
of Peace Parish at St. Rose, the Altar
Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars
Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary, all of
Great Bend.
She will be remembered as a loving wife,
mother, sister, grandmother and friend.
Survivors include her husband, Coyle
“Junebug” Detherage, of the home; two
daughters, Caryl Niedens and husband
Lyle of Westwood and Lisa Francis of
Great Bend; a brother, Jim Newton and
wife Liz of Ellis; and two grandchildren,
Conley Niedens and Pierce Niedens, both
of Westwood. She was preceded in death
by her parents and a daughter, Lori Ann
Francis.
An Altar Society Rosary will be at 4 p.m.
today and a vigil service at 7 p.m., both
at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great
Bend, with Father Reginald A. Urban
officiating. Interment will be at Great
Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from
noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral
home. Donations to memorial funds for
the Golden Belt Community Foundation
or the National Scleroderma Foundation
may be made in care of the funeral

Pastor Richard Bernal
1950 - 2007

GARDEN CITY — Pastor Richard Bernal,
57, died Nov. 17 at his home in Garden
City. Born Jan. 25, 1950, at Fresno,
Calif., he was the son of Alfredo and
Catalina (Soto) Bernal. He graduated
from Roosevelt High School in Fresno in
1968. He attended Fresno State
University in 1968 and Pacific Union
College in Angwin, Calif., in 1969. He
studied for a year at Seminario
Adventista in Valencia, Spain, before
returning to Pacific Union College and
earning his Bachelor of Arts in theology
in 1974. He married Milagros “Mili”
Robles on Aug. 27, 1972, in San
Francisco. In 1977 he earned his Master
of Divinity degree from Andrews
University Seminary in Berrien Springs,
Mich., and started his doctoral studies
there. Richard was a lifelong pastor and
his first assignment was as the youth
pastor at Ditman Spanish Seventh-day
Adventist Church in Los Angeles. He then
was the associate pastor of Temple City
Spanish Seventh-day Adventists Church
in Temple City, Calif., and then became
the associate pas tor of Spanish
American Seventh-day Adventist Church
in Los Angeles. He moved to Bakersfield,
Calif., to serve the Bakersfield Spanish
Seventh-day Adventist Church, Wasco
Spanish Seventh-day Adventist Church,
Lindsey Spanish Seventh-day Adventist
Church and Wood Lake Spanish Seventh-
day Adventist Church. He then moved to
El Paso, Texas, and served the Central
Spanish Seventh-day Adventist Church
and the Clint Spanish Seventh-day
Adventist Church. He then served the
Caldwell Spanish, Fruitland Spanish,
Weiser Spanish in Oregon and the
Jerome Seventh-day Adventists Church.
He served in Eagle River, Alaska, at the
Eagle River, Anchorage Spanish and
Sunshine churches at Talkeetna, and
Kodiak Church on Kodiak Island. In 2002
he moved to Garden City and was pastor
of Garden City Spanish, Great Bend
Spanish and Dodge City Spanish
Seventh-day Adventist Churches. His
passion was winning souls and he
believed in healthy living and exercise.
He was a competitive racquetball player
in leagues and tournaments and pl ayed
the trumpet. He loved the outdoors,
especially the natural settings of
Yosemite and Sequoia national parks.
Survivors include his wife, of the home;
a son, Jonathan Richard Bernal of Garden
City; two daughters, Sara Elizabeth
Stumph of Fort Worth, Texas, and
Michelle Angelica Bernal of Loma Linda,
Calif.; a grandson, Nicholas Richard
Stumph of Fort Worth, Texas; three
brothers, Arthur Bernal of San Jacinto,
Calif., and Charles Bernal and Robert
Bernal, both of Fresno, Calif.; and three
sisters, Gloria Sanchez, Lucy Silguero
and Cindy Sanchez, all of Fresno, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents
and a sister, Carman Cummins.
Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. today at
the Seventh-day Adventist Church in
Garden City with Pastors Harry Reimer,
Jim Hoehn and Jeff Paisley officiating.
Memorials are suggested to High Plains
Christian School in care of Garnand
Funeral Home. Friends may call from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the funeral
home. Additional services and burial will
be at Belmont Memorial Park in Fresno,
Calif.

Leonard G. Herrman
1914 - 2007

La CROSSE — Leonard G. Herrman, 93,
died Nov. 19 at Rush County Memorial
Hospital, La Crosse. He was born Nov.
12, 1914, in rural Rush County, the son
of Jacob M. and Mary (Heronema)
Herrman. He married Ann Geier May 28,
1940, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church,
Liebenthal. She died Aug. 2, 2007. He
was a lifelong resident of La Crosse. Mr.
Herrman was a 1934 graduate of La
Crosse Rural High School. He was a
farmer before his retirement.
Memberships include St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Knights Of
Columbus Council 2340, Liebenthal, St.
Joseph’s Choir Member, Liebenthal; USD
395 School Board member and board
member/La Crosse Farmers Co-op, both
of La Crosse; and Volga German
Historical Society, Hays.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary
Catherine Brening, Great Bend, Ruth
Siress and Elizabeth Richards, both of
Overland Park, and Rebecca Joan
Schmidt of Fountain Hill, Ariz. four
brothers, Paul Herrman, La Crosse,
Father Gilbert Herrman, Garden City,
Ralph Herrman, Canon City, Colo., and
Edward Herrman, Seattle, Wash.; five
sisters, Esther Boxler, Wichita, Isabel
Basgall, La Crosse, Abbie Rupp and Ruth
Risser, both of Garden City, and Edna
“Edie” Mehl, Garden Grove, Calif.; 11
grandchildren and 26 great-
grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by one daughter, Elaine Herrman; and
two sisters, Irene Raniszewski and
Pauline Sutton.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.
Wednesday at St. Michael’s Catholic
Church, La Crosse, with Father Gilbert
Herrman and Father Rene Labrador
officiating. Interment will be at St.
Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Liebenthal.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today
at the Janousek Funeral Home, La
Crosse, with the family receiving friends
from 6 to 7 p.m. A Vigil Service and
Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today.
Church visitation will be Wednesday from
9 to 9:50 a.m. Memorials may be made
to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La
Crosse, or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church,
Liebenthal.
