Evamae E. Hussong

GALENA, Kan. - Evamae E. Hussong, age 58, 1220 Princeton, died at 9:43 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at St John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., after a short illness.

Evamae was born August 18, 1943 at Columbus, Kan.

Her parents were Eugene and Lucile (Igou) Garcia.

She was raised by foster parents, Jess and Mary Titus.

She was a lifetime resident of Galena.

She worked for the past five years as office coordinator for the Freeman Cancer Center, Joplin, Mo.

She was a volunteer for the annual Joplin Relay for Life.

She was a member of the Commerce Community Church, Commerce, Okla., where she was Sunday school teacher for the 8 and 9 year-olds. One of her greater interests was traveling.

She was married to Howard Hussong May 3, 1968 at Galena, Kan. He survives. Also surviving is one son, Douglas (wife, Cristy) Hussong, Galena, Kan.; one daughter, Dr. Rachelle Hare, St Louis Mo.; five sisters, Loma Gallegos, Baxter Springs, Kan., Cathy Canter, Neosho, Mo., Carolyn Newcomer, Baxter Springs, Kan., Helen McCumber, Galena, Kan., and Joyce Martin, Carl Junction, Mo.; and two granddaughters, Shelbi Hussong and Caitlyn Hussong, both of Galena, Kan.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, Kan. Pastor Bob Rabel and Rev. Jeff Martin will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, Kan.

Ivan Lee Crossland Sr.

Ivan Lee Crossland Sr., a resident of Columbus, Kan., passed away Sunday, June 2, 2002, at 6:55 p.m., at Freeman Health Systems West Hospital in Joplin, Mo., at the age of 74 years.

His wife and children were at his side.

He was born October 20, 1927, in Cardin, Okla., to Albert Wesley and Maude Leora (Bowers) Crossland.

He was a resident of Columbus, Kan. since 1966, moving from Treece, Kan.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 as a Sergeant First Class in Company L in the 160th Infantry Regiment in the Korean War.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Scammon, Kan., Columbus Lions Club, Columbus, Kan., VFW Columbus, Kan., American Legion, Columbus, Kan., and the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Columbus, Kan.

He married Virginia Mary Ferrel on January 11, 1953, at our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Los Angeles, Calif.

He worked in telecommunications, mining, chemical, redi-mix and construction industries before starting Crossland Construction with his wife and family in 1977.

Ivan was loved and respected by all for his optimism and ability to see the good in all people.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Jay Crossland.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Mary Crossland, of the home; six sons, Bennie Crossland, Columbus, Michael J. C. Crossland, Columbus, Ivan E. Crossland Jr., Columbus, Mark Curtis Crossland, Joplin, Christopher Paul Crossland, Rogers, Ark., and Patrick Francis Crossland, Pittsburg, Kan.; four daughters, Virginia Ann Crossland, Iola, Kan., Patricia Jean Jessee, Columbus, Mary Elizabeth Bottorff, Towanda, Kan., and Teresa Lynn Oelke, Rogers, Ark.; and 19 grandchildren.

A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Columbus, Kan., with Father Eugene Grabner officiating.

Visitation will follow from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

A private funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church for family and friends.

A celebration of Ivan's life will be held at the Columbus High School auditorium at 2:00 p.m., with Father McElwee officiating.

Interment will follow at Park Cemetery in Columbus, Kan.

Pallbearers will be Bennie Lee, J.C. Box, Paul Churchhill, Virgil Jurgensmeyer, Tom Crawford and Ernest Oelke.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Company L 160th Infantry Regiment 40th Division, Crossland Supervisors, Brad Delmont, Paul Koong, Randy Munson, Frank Hart, Jerry Girrup and Darrell Hart.

The body will lie in state at the Murdock Funeral Home in Columbus, Kan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus Community Foundation, P.O. Box 47, Columbus, Kan., 66725.

Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, Okla., and the Murdock Funeral Home of Columbus, Kan.

Geneva Amos

LOWELL, Kan. - Geneva May Weaver Amos, 85, Lowell, died at 3 a.m. Sunday, June 28, 1998, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., after an illness.

Mrs. Amos was born Oct. 14, 1912, at Centertown, Mo.

She moved to the Webb City and Carl Junction, Mo., areas for a time before moving to Northeast Oklahoma.

She attended school in Commerce, Okla.

She and her husband worked in the hearing aid business from 1968 to 1988.

She lived in the Keelville community, Columbus route 4, from 1968 until April 21, 1992, when she and her husband moved to Spring River Christian Village, Joplin.

She was a member of Center Christian Church, rural Columbus, for more than 65 years.

She married Vernon Amos on June 6, 1932, in Joplin.

He died May 2, 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Howard Neil Amos, Sun City, Calif., and Albert V. Amos, Miami, Okla.; a brother, Calvin Weaver, Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Alma Ehrhart, Charlotte, N.C., and Marie Beech, Leesburg, Fla.; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Center Christian Church, rural Columbus.

The Rev. Bob Martin will officiate.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, southwest of Columbus.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus.

Contributions may be made to the Center Christian Church building fund or New Hope Christian Church, Miami, Okla., in care of the funeral home.

Virginia Elmore

Virginia Elmore, 83, of El Dorado, Kan., passed away Sunday, September 30, 2001 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4 at the First Christian Church in El Dorado.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 5 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Joplin, Mo.

Rhoda Hilton

COLUMBUS, Kan. - Rhoda L. Hilton, 92, formerly of 329 W. Lake St., died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at a local nursing home after an illness.

Mrs. Hilton was born June 6, 1904, at Monmouth.

She worked many years at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant at Parsons and was a farmer.

She helped several years with the Meals on Wheels program at Columbus.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Hilton, Columbus route 1, and Billy Hilton, Arcadia; two daughters, Marjorie Hilton, Columbus route 1, and Maxine Morris, Russellville, Mo.; 35 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus.

The Rev. Randy Arnold will officiate.

Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery, north of McCune.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Chester Hughey

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. - Services for Chester Hughey, 86, 3049 Gainswood, who died Thursday, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Baxter Springs.

Ed Snyder will officiate.

Burial will be in the Baxter Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Alan Saunders, Bill Whitlow, Marshall Mizell, Deon Bumpers, Paul Buckner and Carl Sturgeon.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. today at Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Picher.

Rosa Poor

Columbus, Kan. - Rosa E. Poor, 82, Columbus, formerly of Chetopa, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at Medicalodge, Columbus, after a long illness.

Mrs. Poor was born Sept. 12, 1914, at Chetopa.

She graduated from Chetopa High School in 1932.

She was a member of the Faulkner Christian Church.

She married Richard A. Poor on Aug. 26, 1934, in Cherokee County.

He died March 1, 1997.

She was also preceded in death by a son.

Survivors include two sons, Robert D. Poor and Richard L. Poor, both ofChetopa; a daughter, June Warstler, Commerce City, Colo.; a sister, Thelma Craney, Pittsburg; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus.

The Rev. Michael Linthicum will officiate.

Burial will be in the Edgmand Cemetery, northwest of Columbus.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Kansas Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home.

Lucretia Peters

COLUMBUS, Kan. - Lucretia Mae Peters, 88, Columbus, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at a Columbus nursing center after a short illness.

Mrs. Peters was born July 10, 1908, in Cherokee County, Kan.

She attended Jarrett School District near Melrose.

She was a member of Linda Hand Quilting Club, Columbus, and Melrose Methodist Church.

She married Vincent Marvin Peters on July 30, 1926, at Oswego, Kan.

He died Sept. 13, 1972.

Survivors include a son, Orville Peters, Lebanon, Mo.; two daughters, Mary Ellen Sharp, Columbus, and Melva Dean Wilson, Chetopa; a brother, Walter North, Columbus; two sisters, Mildred Coy, Columbus; Ella Rummer, Columbus; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus.

The Rev. Paul Wiand and the Rev. Todd McClean will officiate.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, west of Melrose.
