Zelma Robinson
BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. - Zelma Florence Robinson, 98, formerly of Baxter Springs, died at 4:05 a.m. Monday at a nursing home in Springfield, Mo., after a long illness.
Mrs. Robinson was born June 12, 1898, at Udell, Iowa. She moved to Baxter Springs in 1922 and lived there until 1995, when she moved to Springfield. She was a member of First Christian Church, Baxter Springs.
She married Clarence Theodore Robinson on April 6, 1918 at Lamar, Mo. He died in 1963.
Survivors include a son, Loren W. Robinson, Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Baxter Cemetery, Baxter Springs. Ed Snider will officiate.
Services are under the direction of Derfelt's Baxter Chapel.
Anna Smith
WEIR, Kan. - Anna Maria Smith, 94, formerly of Weir, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, at a nursing home in Frontenac.
Mrs. Smith was born March 25, 1902, in Scammon. She lived near Scammon until 1974, when she moved to Weir. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon, and the Alter Society of the church. She was a member of the Harmony Club and the Home Sweet Home Club.
She married Ralph Smith on January 27, 1947, at Girard. He died Aug. 22, 1974.
Surviving are a son, Charles A. Boyce, Frontenac; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bridget's Catholic Church. The Rev. Patrick York, the Rev. Sam Pinkerton and the Rev. Chrysostom Ah Maung will officiate. Burial will be in Hosey Hill Cemetery, Weir.
The Alter Society rosary recitation will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Weir. The parish rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until the time of and directly following the rosary.
Contributions may be made to the building fund of St. Bridget's Catholic Church or the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Frontenac, in care of the funeral home.
Robert Laurie
COLUMBUS, Kan. - Robert D. Laurie, 54, rural Columbus, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Laurie was born Oct. 1, 1942, at Ava, Mo. He was reared in the state of California and returned to the Columbus area in 1961.
He married Laura Dubbert on April 17, 1965, at Commerce, Okla. She survives.
Additional survivors include three brothers, Wayne Laurie and Leroy Laurie, both of Scammon, and Wendell Laurie, Pittsburg; and six sisters, Alma White, Columbus, Janice Howard and Glenda Craven, both of the state of California, Martha Wiley, Farlington, Neva Minor, Sherman City, and Karen Gammil, Springfield, Mo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus. The Rev. Jeff Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Lone Elm Cemetery, rural Columbus.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mark Hildreth
Mark Hildreth, 95, 5721 Shoal Cliff Drive, [Joplin, MO] died at 12:56 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at Freeman Hospital West after a short illness.
Mr. Hildreth was born Nov. 27, 1901, at Leon, Kan. He had lived since 1914 in Joplin, where he moved from from Leon. He worked 39 years at the former Cities Services Gas Co., Joplin. He retired in June 1965 as a line maintenance foreman.
He married Louise A. DeMaster on Dec. 22, 1923, in Joplin. She died July 27, 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy McDonald, Joplin; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Cryptside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. John Goodman will officiate.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Parker Mortuary.
Rayma Trombley
GALENA, Kan. - Rayma Jean Trombley, 64, 1812 Joplin, died at 4:45 p.m. Monday, March 24, 1997, at her home after a sudden illness.
Mrs. Trombley was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Galena. She was graduated from Galena High School. She was employed as food service supervisor at Galena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for 20 years. She retired in September 1994. She was a member of Galena Ladies' Elks. She attended Sixth Street Baptist Church.
She married Richard Burton Trombley on May 1, 1955, at Bourbonnais, Ill. He died April 3, 1996.
Survivors include a stepson, Richard B. Trombley, Tuscon, Ariz.; three daughters, Rachell Craddock, Riverton, Ronda Baker, Siloam Springs, Ark., and Renee Martin, Watts, Okla.; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Mills, Ottawa, Ill., and Kris Trombley, Bourbonnais, Ill.; a brother, Paul Kinkade, Kankakee, Ill.; seven sisters, Della McGuire and Frances Cooper, both of Galena, Kathryn Spivey and Dorothy Walton, both of Riverton, Thelma Walker, Kankakee, Ill., Marguerita Evans, Henderson, Nev., and Betty Moore, Baxter Springs; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Jeff Martin will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena.
Elmer Tanner
COLUMBUS, Kan. - Elmer Dale Tanner, 77, Denver, Colo., formerly of Columbus, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 1997, at his home after a sudden illness.
Mr. Tanner was born March 22, 1919, south of Columbus. He attended high school in Columbus and Riverton. He moved with his wife to Denver in 1946, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Hutchinson Construction Co. until he retired in 1990.
He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, Denver. He was an Army veteran of World War II who served in the European Theater.
He married Eva Martin on Oct. 23, 1943, at Girard. She survives.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Park Cemetery, Columbus, with the Rev. Garland Bohn officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus.
Mary Brown
Mary A. Brown, 97, 117 McConnell Ave., died at 5:09 a.m. Friday, March 21, 1997, at Freeman Hospital East where she had been a patient since March 4.
Mrs. Brown was born Jan. 17, 1900, at Neodesha, Kan. She moved to Joplin in 1923 from Pittsburg, Kan. She had taught in a country school in the Neodesha area.
She was a member of Oakland Christian Church.
She married Wilburn Brown on June 20, 1920, at Neodesha. He died March 22, 1979.
Survivors include four sons, Carl W. Brown, Fort Myers, Fla., Paul E. Brown, Joplin, Leo E. Brown, Springfield, and Ivan M. Brown, Glendale, Ore.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary. The Rev. William E. Furnas will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The sons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will be at the home.
