Vera Vinita Griffith, 78, of Eureka, formerly of Yates Center, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.

She was born at Midland, Texas, on September 19, 1922, the daughter of Claude and Mae Belle (McCune) Crawford.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Huntingt of Eureka and Joyce Burghart of Wichita; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

FREDA MEADOR
Freda Mae Meador, 95, died at her home in Eureka on Tuesday, January 16, 2001.

She was born March 28, 1905, in Greenwood County, Kansas, the daughter of Hugh A. and Rosa B. (Cummings) Scott.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosalie Brand of Wichita; three grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.

JAMES BUTTS
James S. "Jim" Butts, 59, of Wichita, died at his home on Sunday, February 11, 2001.

He was born on October 22, 1941, at Leon, the son of James S. and Madglyn (Robinson) Butts.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Felicia Doll of Andover and Teresa Steen of Augusta; two step-daughters, Stacey Sporleder and Micki Runnion both of Wichita; one brother, Raymond Butts of Leon; two sisters, Betty Gregg of Rogers, Ark., Carolyn Sue McGarrah of Hurst, Texas, and 10 grandchildren.

JAMES CASSIN
James A. Cassin, 79, of Topeka, died at a Topeka hospital on Saturday, February 10, 2001.

He was born on February 2, 1922, in Towanda, the son of John Charles and Bessie (Burk) Cassin.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, John of Jefferson City, Mo., and Michael of Overland Park; a daughter, Jamie Runyan, of Topeka and six grandchildren.

MARIE DAY
Marie Belle Day, 76, of Piedmont, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001, at Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born September 16, 1924, at Freedom, Okla., the daughter of Virgil Skinner and Marjorie Dockum.

She is survived by two sons, Charley Day of Lamont, Okla., and Willie Day of Eureka; three daughters, Mae Mendez and Emma Escalante, both of Topeka and Jo Ann Sughart of Eureka; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

JOHN FORCUM
John H. Forcum, 58, of Garden City, died January 30, 2001, in Finney County.

He was born on April 3, 1942, at Eureka, the son of Harold Lester and Mary Elinor (McKenzie) Forcum.

Survivors are three daughters, Jennifer Tanzey and Julie and Janeen Forcum, all of Houston; his mother, of N. Newton; three sisters, Marsha Wolfe, of Newton, Janet Groninga, of Overland Park, and Ardys Bader, of Clearwater.

MILTON LACY
Milton J. "Mutt" Lacy, 89, of Eureka, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on Thursday, February 8, 2001.

He was born on September 16, 1911, in Greenwood County, the son of Roscoe M. and Ada L. (Johnson) Lacy.

He is survived by his wife, Freda, at home in Eureka; a daughter, Bettie Scott, of Eureka; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

FRANK MCCART
Frank Eugene McCart, 93, of Eureka, died Friday, February 9, 2001, at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.

He was born on March 3, 1907, at Fairfax, Okla., the son of Frank Raymond and Dora Belle (Sharp) McCart.

He is survived by two stepsons, Dale Brandon of Pittsburg and Jack Brandon of Andover; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Hester Schultz and Sylvia Jueschke.

H.W. OVERSTAKE
H.W. "Bill" Overstake, 47, of Wichita, died Sunday, February 4, 2001.

He was born September 12, 1953, at Fort Riley, the son of Howard W. and Virginia (Kesterson) Overstake.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; daughters, Megan and Gina, both of the home; his parents, Howard and Ginny Overstake of Wichita; a sister, Marcia Schultz, a nephew, Ryan Schultz and a niece, Kristin Schultz, all of Wichita.

KACY STEPHENS
Kacy J. Stephens, 21, of El Dorado, died Sunday, February 11, 2001, at her home in El Dorado.

She was born on July 13, 1979, at El Dorado, the daughter of Orban Leon and Sharon Ann (Roths) Stephens.

Survivors include her parents of Fredonia; a sister, Kelly Stephens, of Pratt; grandparents Leon and Irene Stephens, of Rosalia and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

GILBERT WOODS
Gilbert Daniel Woods, 90, died at his home in Eureka on Tuesday, February 6, 2001.

He was born on May 5, 1910, at Hartford, the son of Perry Lee and Stella Frances (McCormick) Woods.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothea, at home in Eureka; a son, Gilbert Daniel "Dan" Woods, Jr. of Stanton, Calif.; two daughters, Mae Francis Liebau of Toronto and Vada Gaylene Ripley, of Fontana, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three stepgreat-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Edna Madson, of Emporia.

HAZEL DEAN
Hazel Melinda Dean, 97, of Eureka, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Medicalodge of Eureka.

She was born in rural Fall River, on February 24, 1904, the daughter of Alex and Bell (Johnson) West.

She is survived by Anadel and Jim Wheeler of Las Vegas, Nev., Virginia and Mal Fishback of Overland Park, Dee and Eric Bloomquist of Goddard and several nieces, nephews and friends.

PEARL SHIVERS
Pearl Shivers, 96, of Eureka, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Medicalodge of Eureka.

She was born October 5, 1904, at Alton, Mo., the daughter of Joseph Henry and Ida Jane (Harmon) Roach.

She is survived by one son, Bill Christian of Bishop, Texas; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Robert Frank Christian, two brothers and two sisters.

RAYMOND SHEARER
Raymond Elwood Shearer, 68, of Krebs, Okla., died Friday, March 23, 2001, at his home.

He was born on August 9, 1932, in Toronto, the son of Norman and Berdell (Clark) Shearer. He was married to Marianne Seeley.

He is survived by his wife, Marianne Shearer, of the home; his sons Philip and Warren Shearer, of Tehachapi, Calif., Norman Shearer of Bakersfield, Okla., and Gene Clark Shearer of Duncan, Okla.; daughters Sarah Householder of McAlester, Okla., Roberta Shearer of Duncan, Okla., Mary Lamb of Konawa, Okla., and JoAnne Treannie of Krebs, Okla.; sister Norma Fae McCartney of Wichita; numerous grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

WILLNETTE WALLACE
Willnette Wallace, 95, of Lee's Summit, Mo., formerly of Eureka, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Wilshire at Lakewood Center in Lee's Summit.

She was born September 10, 1905, at Eureka, the daughter of Cecil and Jennie (Sprague) Parks.

She is survived by one son L. Charles "Chuck" Wallace of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Sally Wilson of Grandview, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Alice Wallace of Germantown, Tenn.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Treva Parks of Eureka.

VIOLA BLANCK
Viola May Blanck, 77, of El Dorado and formerly of Virgil, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at a local nursing home.

She was born May 28, 1923, in Muskegan, Mich., the daughter of Edward and Marion Haralson Downey.

She is survived by one sister Betty Clements of Holland, Mich.; a friend Harley Foulk of El Dorado and several nieces and nephews.

MAXINE HART
Maxine Hart, 77, a resident of Beverly Health and Rehab of Fredonia, formerly of Fall River, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at the Fredonia Regional Hospital.

She was born on November 4, 1923, in Alva, Okla., the daughter of Charles M. and Pearl Gaye (Townsend) Mount..

She is survived by a son, Terry L. Hart of Fall River and one grandchild.

LLOYD RYTHER
Lloyd E. Ryther, Sr., 90, of Yates Center, former Eureka resident, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Newman Memorial County Hospital in Emporia.

He was born August 15, 1910, at Denver, Colo.

He is survived by his wife, Vada, at home in Yates Center; one son, Lloyd E. "Mike" Ryther, Jr., of Neosho, Mo.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM SHANNON
William "Elmer" Shannon, age 81, of Toronto, died on Saturday, March 31, 2001, at the Fredonia Regional Hospital in Fredonia.

He was born in rural Toronto on June 16, 1919, the son of Allen and Lona Dove (Westfall) Shannon.

He is survived by two nieces and three nephews.

FAYE HIBBARD
Faye R. Hibbard, 91, formerly of Toronto, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Medicalodge of Eureka.

She was born April 7, 1910, near Coyville in rural Greenwood County, Kansas, the daughter of William Henry and Harriet (Pratt) Lawrence.

She is survived by a son, Tom Hibbard of Toronto; three sisters Emma Bennett of Neodesha, Dorothy Taylor of Wichita and Juanita Earl of Abilene, Texas; two brothers, Glen Lawrence of Toronto and Earl Lawrence of Littleton, Colo., and three grandchildren.

GREGORY MOORE
Gregory Allen Moore, 43, of Wichita, formerly of Eureka, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at the Via Christi-St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born in Eureka on October 5, 1957, the son of David Lee and Darla Jean (Hale) Moore.

He is survived by daughter, Kyra, of Omaha, Neb.; parents David and Alice Moore and brother Daniel Moore all of Eureka.

ROBERT "BOB" WASINGER
Robert Keith "Bob" Wasinger, 67, of Eureka, died on Thursday, July 26, 2001, at the Via Christi-St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born on September 19, 1933, in Hays, the son of Richard and Lora (Hance) Wasinger.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; daughters Kimberly Ring of Moran, Rosita Golbek of Omaha, Neb., and Lolita Glebavicius of Elsberry, Mo.; brother Roger Wasinger of Hays; sisters Carolyn Lonnon of Hays, Rosanne Sanders of Eureka, Mont., Susan Jones of Pratt and Laura Behrens of Leavenworth and seven grandchildren.

CALVIN CHASTAIN
Calvin Wayne Chastain, 45, of Eureka, died on Saturday, November 10, 2001, at the Greenwood County Hospital.

He was born on June 30, 1956, at the Greenwood County Hospital, to Arlie and Margaret Chastain of Eureka.

He is survived by son Calvin Conan Chastain of Sacramento, Calif.; daughter Carrie Chastain of Billings, Mont.; two grandchilren; parents Arlie and Margaret Chastain of Eureka; brother Clifford Chastain and sister Cathy Chastain, both of Eureka.

BARBARA DARNOLD
Barbara Jean Darnold, 71, of Toronto, died on November 5, 2001, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola.

She was born on January 27, 1930, the daughter of Hugh F. and Alice G. (Daramus) Mitchell.

She is survived by ex-husband William Carl Darnold; sons William Darnold of Toronto and David Darnold of Quail Valley, Calif.; brothers Hugh Mitchell of Ione, Calif., and Donald Mitchell of Utah; sisters Joyce Barbour of Ione, Calif., and Carol Rodigeous of Rising Fawn, Ga., and five grandchildren.

CHRISTINE WILKINSON
Christine Henderson Wilkinson, 87, of Knob Noster, Mo., died on Monday, November 5, 2001, at her daughters home in Knob Noster, Mo.

She was born on January 10, 1914, in Eureka the daughter of George H. and Anna G. (Lee) Brancroft.

She is survived by daughter, Gale (Regina) Yocum, Knob Noster, Mo.; son, Terry Henderson, of Grove, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
