Edith I. Haley
WINCHESTER -- Edith I. Haley, 91, Winchester, formerly of Valley Falls, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at a Winchester care center.
She was born Oct. 23, 1909, in Oakhill in southwestern Clay County, to John and Tena Giest Chayer, and she graduated from Mount View Grade School near Oakhill. She was a nurse's aide at Sunset Nursing Home in Concordia. She moved to Valley Falls in July 1989.
She was a member of Wesleyan Methodist Church in Concordia and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Falls.
She married Emery Haley on July 30, 1930, in Clay Center. He died Nov. 13, 1970.
Survivors include a daughter, Louise Scarlett, Topeka; three sisters, Ruth Kitterman, Merriam, Florence Palmer, Springfield, Mo., and Lenora Wiggins, Sparta, Mo.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

SCRANTON -- Clarence R. Hollar, 62, Scranton, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at home.

Olive Huncovsky
CUBA -- Olive R. Huncovsky, 91, Cuba, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at a Belleville care center.
She was born Aug. 11, 1909, near Cuba in Republic County, to John and Betty Zacek Shulda. She spent most of her life in the Cuba community.
She was a member of Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Guild and Beebe Club, all in Cuba, and Ophel Chapter No. 115 of Order of Eastern Star in Belleville.
She married Ben H. Huncovsky on Aug. 5, 1929. He died March 24, 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Ben L. Huncovsky, Rowland Heights, Calif., and Ernest R. Huncovsky, Prescott, Ariz.; a brother, John Shulda, Flagler, Colo.; two sisters, Lottie Lewis, Denver, and Marcella Regenscheid, Cuba; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church in Cuba. Ophel Chapter No. 115 of Order of Eastern Star will conduct graveside services at Kopsa Cemetery southeast of Cuba. Mrs. Huncovsky will lie in state until 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart-Surber Funeral Home in Belleville.

David P. Jones Jr.
STRONG CITY -- Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brown-Bennett- Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls for David Paul Jones Jr., 77, Strong City, who died Jan. 10, 2001, at a Cottonwood Falls care center.
He was born Dec. 19, 1923, in Wichita, to David Paul and Lois Martin Jones. He was a supervisor for a boat building firm before he retired in 1988.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He married Willa Hubert on Jan. 11, 1944, in Fayetteville, N.C. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Loren D. Jones, Clearwater, Paul Jones, Strong City, and Kevin D. Jones, Cottonwood Falls; a brother, Eugene Jones, Los Osos, Calif.; two sisters, Helen Sanders, Wichita, and Marilyn Smith, Belen, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Mr. Jones was cremated. Private inurnment will be in Strong City Cemetery.

QUENEMO -- Marie Rickey, 95, Meeker, Okla., formerly of Quenemo, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at home.

Edna R. Sinn
RILEY -- Edna R. Sinn, 101, Riley, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at a Centralia nursing home.
She was born July 19, 1899, in Riley, to Michael and Rosa Kaiser Rueck.
She was a member of Presbyterian Church and auxiliary to Riley Post No. 168 of the American Legion, both in Riley, and Wakefield Chapter No. 441 Order of Eastern Star, in Wakefield.
She married Charlie H. Sinn on Aug. 17, 1921. He died May 29, 1977. A daughter, Kathryn Flynn, also died.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Kraushaar, Frankfort; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church in Riley. Burial will be in Riley Cemetery. Mrs. Sinn will lie in state today at Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.

PERRY -- R. M. "Dick" Thompson, 70, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at his home in Perry. He had cancer.

Mildred J. Vaughn
OVERBROOK -- Mildred Julia Vaughn, 82, Overbrook, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at a Topeka hospital.
She was born July 27, 1918, in Burlingame, to Robert and Bertha McConnell Schneider, and she attended Burlingame Grade School. She graduated from Carbondale High School in 1938. She was employed by Sunflower Ordnance Works in DeSoto from 1939 to 1953 and later was a cook for Overbrook schools for seven years.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Overbrook.
She married Walter Jefferson Vaughn on Aug. 15, 1939, in Lyndon. They moved into Overbrook in 1942. He died Jan. 20, 1985. A son, Steven Vaughn, died in 1956.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne Vaughn, Topeka, and Walter Vaughn, Overbrook; four daughters, Virginia Vaughn and Sandy Vaughn, both in Overbrook, Sharon Westmoreland, Wellington, and Janet Terrones, Olathe; 12 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Overbrook. Burial will be in Overbrook Cemetery. Mrs. Vaughn will lie in state from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Overbrook and after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Doris Day
Doris Fern Day, 71, Topeka, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at home.
She was born Nov. 29, 1929, in Topeka, to James Edgar and Jessie Elsie Bundy Price, and spent her life in Topeka.
She was a member of North Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She married Howard K. Day on March 23, 1949, in Topeka. He survives. A daughter, Karlene June Day, died Sept. 10, 1960.
Other survivors include a daughter, Darlene F. Weinmann, Atchison; two brothers, Clyde "Edgar" Price and Edward J. Price, both in Topeka; and four sisters, Irene F. Roberson, Alice E. Kadous and Olga Thompson, all in Topeka, and Ina Lou Martin, Brookville.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery northwest of Topeka. Mrs. Day will lie in state after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the mortuary where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Wayne D. Fischer
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Funeral Home for Wayne D. Fischer, 73, Route 1, Maple Hill, who died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at his home near Paxico.
He was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Kansas City, Mo., to Reinhold G. and Caroline Tieperman Fischer. He spent his early life in Hudson in Stafford County and graduated from Hudson High School in 1945. He moved to Topeka in 1963. He was a truck driver and former co-owner of Capital City Moving & Storage.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served aboard the USS Tingley and USS Yarnall.
He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Hudson, American Legion and had served on the Republican National Committee. He had served on township boards in Dover and in Wabaunsee County.
He married Delores Gagelman, of Great Bend. They divorced. He married Katherine Friesen after he moved to Topeka in 1963. They divorced. A daughter, Brenda Jo Fischer, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Brian Fischer, Great Bend; two daughters, Dana Lloyd, Ellinwood, and Lora Cushard, Murrayville, Ga.; two sisters, Alice Nichols, Gunnison, Colo., and Reta Schreiber, Great Bend; and six grandchildren.
Later services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Peace United Church of Christ in Hudson. Burial will be in Peace United Church of Christ Cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Funeral Home. Mr. Fischer will lie in state from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend.

Tasean C. Brown
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel for Tasean C. Brown, son of Steven and Crystal Brown Thurman, Topeka, who died Dec. 31, 2000, at a Topeka hospital where he was born Dec. 19. He had been ill since birth.
Other survivors include grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick J. Thurman, Julius C. Brown, Charles Rias and Cynthia Mack, all in Topeka; and a great-grandmother, Becky Mack, Topeka.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Tasean Brown will lie in state during visitation from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Eddie Mae Lee
Service arrangements are pending at Newcomer Family Funeral Home for Eddie Mae Lee, 87, Topeka, who died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at a Topeka hospital.
Louise Thompson
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Louise Annen Thompson, 90, who died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at a Topeka hospital of complications suffered following a fall in her Topeka apartment.
She was born Aug. 3, 1910, in Topeka, to Louis Nicholas and Ella May Sage Annen. She graduated from Holy Name Catholic Grade School in 1924 and from Topeka Catholic High School in 1928. She received an Associate of Arts degree from St. Mary College in Leavenworth in 1930. She served as executive secretary for the Kansas Centennial Commission and later was bookkeeper for Kansas Ports of Entry before she retired in 1972.
She married Robert Dean Thompson, of Berryton, on May 23, 1936. They were charter members of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Marie Alkire, Mesa, Ariz., and Margaret Murdock, Topeka; and a grandson.
Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Thompson will lie in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a parish prayer service will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Dorothy Waters
Dorothy H. Waters, 74, Topeka, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at a Topeka hospice house.
