JEWELL -- Eleanor Belden-Calahan, 77, Jewell, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003.
Mrs. Belden-Calahan was born Eleanor McCorkle on Aug. 29, 1925, east of Jewell. She was the librarian at Burr Oak and Jewell public libraries.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Belden in 1984; and her second husband, James Calahan in 2001.

Survivors include two sons, David Belden and Gale Belden, both of Burr Oak; three brothers, Henry McCorkle of Burr Oak, Clarence McCorkle of Fort Lupton, Colo., and Kenneth McCorkle of Osborne; a sister, Helen Libhart of Pueblo, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Laurie Mercer of Grand Junction, Colo., two stepsons, Wycke Calahan of Colorado and Scott Calahan of Missouri; four grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. today in Burr Oak Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Solomon Valley Hospice, Beloit.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

Melby Mortuary, 402 North High, Mankato 66956, is handling arrangements.

William F. "Bill" Blaha
BELLEVILLE -- William F. "Bill" Blaha, 87, Belleville, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
Mr. Blaha was born May 2, 1916, at Chicago. He was a purchasing agent for a steel company, retiring in 1978.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of the home; a brother, Arthur of Willowbrook, Ill.; and a sister, Jayne Sayset of Hickory Hills, Ill.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Belleville. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Belleville.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the family's choice.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. today and Tuesday at Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart-Surber Funeral Home, 1322 19th, Belleville 66935.

Gayle Lynn Boone
Gayle Lynn Boone, 30, Salina, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
Roselawn Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements.

R.D. "Dale" Breit
HOXIE -- R.D. "Dale" Breit, 73, Hoxie, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
Mr. Breit was born March 8, 1930, in Arnold, to George and Barbara Roth Breit. He was a businessman and he and his wife owned and operated Cooper Dry Goods in Hoxie and Imperial, Neb., until their retirement. He moved to Hoxie in 1957. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hoxie, a lay minister and past member of the Board of Ordained Ministry and a past member of the board of directors of the Lydia Patterson Institute. He was a member and past president of the Hoxie Rotary Club and a past district governor of Rotary International and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Hoxie Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star and had served as master and worthy patron of the lodges. He was a member of the Hoxie Elks Lodge and an honorary member of the Order of Moose. He had served on the board of directors of the Hoxie Area Chamber of Commerce and was a former member of the board of directors of the First National Bank of Hoxie.

He married Barbara Cooper on June 4, 1950, in Danforth Chapel on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Hoxie; a son, Blaine Breit and wife Pamela of Greeley, Colo.; two daughters, Ladeane Reese and husband Rick of Mount Hope, and Janeece Woofter and husband Alan of Imperial, Neb.; two sisters, Vivian Borom and Anna Belle Tanner, both of Albany, Ga.; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Hoxie, the Rev. Dick Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Hoxie Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Dale Breit Rotary Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, 1024 Sheridan, Hoxie 67740.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday at the funeral home.

Sharon K. Coup
ABILENE -- Sharon K. Coup, 54, Abilene, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
Mrs. Coup was born April 3, 1949. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Patricia and Chuck Wise of Wellsville; her husband, Don of the home; a daughter, Shelly Ihnken of Abilene; a son, John Williams of Kansas City, Kan.; four brothers, Sonny and Sam Tunget and Roger Mayhugh of Lawrence and Kurt Mayhugh of Pea Ridge, Ark.; a sister, Dana Robertson of Baldwin; and seven grandchildren.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 N.W. Third, Abilene 67410.

Memorials may be made to Home Health Care and Hospice of Abilene in care of the funeral home.

Charles "Pat" Dutton
CONCORDIA -- Charles "Pat" Dutton, 80, Concordia, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003.
Nutter Mortuary, Concordia, is handling arrangements.

Charlene M. Marker Ince
McPHERSON -- Charlene M. Marker Ince, 58, McPherson, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
Mrs. Ince was born April 2, 1945, at Topeka. She was a former employee of American State Bank and Damac Drilling, both of Great Bend.

Survivors include a daughter, Kim Unruh of McPherson; a brother, Gary Sievers of Pawnee Rock; and two grandchildren.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in McPherson Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Charlene Marker Ince Memorial Fund.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson 67460.

William J. Isaac
ASSARIA -- William J. Isaac, 69, Assaria, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
Mr. Isaac was born Sept. 21, 1933, in Manchester. He was an electrician and had worked for the Solomon DS&O and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 661, in Hutchinson.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of the home; three daughters, Jill Isaac of Clay Center, and Julie Keeler and Jana Schrader, both of Salina; two brothers, Alfred of Hutchinson and Jack O'Neal of Salina; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 N.W. Third, Abilene 67410. Burial will be in Keystone Cemetery, Manchester.

Memorials may be made to Central Kansas Flywheels Museum of Salina or Hospice of Salina in care of the funeral home.

Visitation will be until time of service at the funeral home.

Shirley Louise Johnson
TOPEKA -- Shirley Louise Johnson, 74, Topeka, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003.
Mrs. Johnson was born Shirley Louise Siebert on Aug. 17, 1928, in Hutchinson. She had worked at St. John's Hospital in Salina and worked for Drs. Meissner and Mead in Topeka.

Survivors include her husband, Harold E.; a daughter, Stephanie Reynolds of Topeka; a brother, William D. "Bill" Siebert of Salina; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Topeka. Private burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 5122, Topeka, KS 66605-0122.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka.

Russell B. Smith
LEOTI -- Russell B. Smith, 45, Leoti, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 14, 1957, at Leoti. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Deena; a stepdaughter, Kelsie Barth of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his parents, Wayne and Paula Smith of Leoti; a brother, Todd of Salina; and two sisters, Terry Smith of Issaquah, Wash., and Brenda Kuhlmann of Dodge City.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Leoti. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Leoti EMTs or the Wichita County Amusement Association in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home, Leoti.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Florus Talkington
ONEIDA -- Florus Talkington, 72, Oneida, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003.
Mr. Talkington was born March 13, 1931, at Clements. He was an oil field worker.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dora Talkington.

Survivors include his wife, Rose of Oneida; three sons, Jessie of Burns, Virgil of Morrill and Doug of Centralia; four daughters, Rose Ann Scott of Burns, Evelyn Barrett and Patricia Bentley, both of Oneida, and Carrie Talkington of Topeka; two brothers, Bud of Hamilton and Gary of El Dorado; five sisters, Edna Dwyer of Warsaw, Mo., Ethel Shever of Wichita, Dora Faunce and Flora Casper, both of Rosalia, and Margaret Hollman of El Dorado; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Burns Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Zeiner Funeral Home, 104 W. Fifth, Florence 66851.

Joseph "Tubby" Tinkel
HOISINGTON -- Joseph "Tubby" Tinkel, 79, Hoisington, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
Mr. Tinkel was born Feb. 23, 1924, at Claflin. He was a farmer and worked for Beaver Grain and Schreiber Oil Co.

His wife, Leonetta, died in 2000.

Survivors include four stepsons, Cletus Schremmer of Pittsburg, Harold Schremmer of Houston, Don Schremmer of Odin and Raymond Schremmer of Ponca City, Okla.; eight stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Beaver.

A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. Main, Hoisington.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William J. "Bill" Walters
HAYS -- William J. "Bill" Walters, 87, Hays, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
Mr. Walters was born April 30, 1916, at Catherine. He retired from Service Pipeline Company.

Survivors include his wife, Fidelia of the home; five sons, Terry of Morgan Hill, Calif., William Jr. of Morrison, Colo., David "Bud" of Barrington, Ill., Peter of Newark, Calif., and John of Berwyn, Ill.; four daughters, Kathleen Brenner, Lilly Kingsley and Sue Prediger, all of Hays, and Cynthia Kleczka of Stickney, Ill.; a brother, Linus of Ellis; five sisters, Vera Pfeifer, Scholastica Leiker, Alexia Munk and Doris Applehans, all of Hays, and Ann Schulte of Hugoton; 22 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hays. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hays, with military honors by the Hays VFW.

There will be a Perpetual Eucharist Adorers rosary at 4 p.m., a Sisters of St. Agnes and Associates prayer service at 4:30 p.m., a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6 to 7 p.m., all today at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays 67601.

Memorials may be made to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Betty Berenice Bandel
McPHERSON -- Betty Berenice Bandel, 80, McPherson, formerly of St. Francis, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003.
Mrs. Bandel was born Betty Felzien on Nov. 28, 1922, in rural Cheyenne County. She was a homemaker and a retired licensed practical nurse.

Survivors include five sons, Herbert Jr. of New Branfel, Texas, Gene of Olathe, Raymond Lee of Charlotte, N.C., Stanley of Wichita and Bryan of Reno, Nev.; a brother, Gerold Felzien of Milwaukee, Wis.; a sister, Dottie Cook of Goodland; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Knodel Funeral Home, 202 S. Benton, St. Francis 67756-0606. Burial will be in Lawn Ridge Cemetery, rural St. Francis.

Memorials may be made to Kansas Elk's Crippled Children's Fund in care of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Roland A. Bird Sr.
Roland A. Bird Sr., 77, Salina, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003.
Mr. Bird was born June 23, 1926, at Quinter. He worked as an accountant for the Kansas Department of Transportation.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janette, in 1993; a son, Jerry, in 2003; and a great-granddaughter.

Survivors include a son, Roland "Roly" Jr., and wife DeAnnda of Salina; a brother, Eldon of Quinter; three sisters, Eva Norton and Norma Eichman, both of Quinter, and Lorene Redmond of Billings, Mont.; four grandchildren, Angie Lassley of Wichita, Sara Bird of Salina and David and Lucas Bird of Hope; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina, Salina Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1432 or Salina American Legion Post 62, in care of the mortuary.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Kathleen "Cassie" Bronson
SMITH CENTER -- Kathleen "Cassie" Bronson, 81, Smith Center, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003.
Simmons Mortuary, Smith Center, is handling arrangements.

Dr. David L. Carnahan
MANHATTAN -- Dr. David L. Carnahan, 75, Manhattan, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003.
Dr. Carnahan was born April 14, 1928, near Clay Center. He was a professor in the Department of Surgery and Medicine at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, retiring as professor emeritus in 1990.

His wife, Lois Ann (Jahnke), died Jan. 20, 2003.

Survivors include three daughters, Lori Carnahan of Lawrence, Kris Carnahan of Prairie Village and Caryn Hearn of Manhattan; a brother, Paul of Forbestown, Calif.; two sisters, Anna Mae Kondratieff of San Geronimo, Calif., and Jeanne Boling of Topeka; and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Manhattan. Burial will be in Riley Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church or Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at KSU, in care of Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home, 303 S. Broadway, P.O. Box 176, Riley 66531.

Visitation will be today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
