LINN -- Emma Marie Stuenkel, 91, Linn, formerly of Salina, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003.
Mrs. Stuenkel was born Emma Naegele on April 23, 1912, in Sylvan Grove. She owned and operated a beauty shop prior to her marriage.
Her husband, Walter Theodore, died in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Walter William of Linn.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Lincoln Cemetery.

Pearl J. Vestal
HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Pearl J. Vestal, 102, Homestead, formerly of Superior, Neb., died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003.
Mrs. Vestal was born Pearl Van Meter on May 5, 1901, in Lovewell, Kan. She taught school for six years in the Mount Hope one-room school, and then was superintendent of Lovewell Grade School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fay H.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois Burdette of Pennington, N.J.; a son, Dale of Homestead; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel, 750 N. Commercial, Superior, NE 68978. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Lovewell.
Memorials may be made in care of the family.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- Esther A. Von Lehe, 87, North Platte, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003.
Mrs. Von Lehe was born Esther Ohlde on Sept. 10, 1916, in Palmer, Kan. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph, in 1998; and a son, Gene.
Survivors include three daughters, Janice Bagnell of North Platte, Judith Christian of Garden Grove, Calif., and Marita Lange of Manhattan, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Linn. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Linn.

Vera Jean Younggren
COUNCIL GROVE -- Vera Jean Younggren, 76, Council Grove, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003.
Mrs. Younggren was born Vera Jean Litke on Aug. 16, 1927, in rural Wabaunsee County. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Marion Leroy, died in 2000.
Survivors include four daughters, Nancy Zirkel and Carolyn Andres, both of Council Grove, Sherry Wilson of Cottonwood Falls and Pam Prather of Emporia; three sisters, Naomi Moran of Topeka, Ruth Livengood of Salina and Norma Stringer of Port Arthur, Texas; two brothers, Don Litke of Council Grove and Tom Litke of Abilene; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Flint Hills Apostolic Faith Church, Council Grove. Burial will follow in Sunny Slope Memorial Garden Cemetery, Council Grove.

VICTORIA -- Cyril Pete Berens, 77, Victoria, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004.
Mr. Berens was born May 8, 1926, at Walker. He was a retired maintenance worker at Commerce Bank in Kansas City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Jane, in 1971; and a stepson, Gerald A. Bounds.
Survivors include a son, Gregory A. of Monett, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Joyce Holler of Independence, Mo.; a brother, Ralph of Hays; a sister, Caroline Schmidt of Salina; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James J. Trapp, in 1989.

Richard J. "Dick" Courter
Richard J. "Dick" Courter, 88, Salina, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004.
Mr. Courter was born Feb. 6, 1915, at Dresden. He graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University, with a business administration degree. He married Inga E. Leece on Oct. 9, 1937, in Munden. He was co-owner and vice president of the Royal Tire Company in Salina for 30 years. He was also a 50-year member and past president and chairman of the sight and hearing committee of Downtown Lions Club. He was a charter member and board member of OCCK and a volunteer and chairman of the Advisory Board of RSVP, all in Salina. He served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Sgt. in the Pacific Theater during World War II. In 1998, he received the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award. In 1990, he received the Alumni Service Award from Kansas Wesleyan University and the St. Francis Award from St. Francis Boys Home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Inga E., in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Anne E.; two sons Richard E. "Dick" and Bruce L., both of Salina; his brother John F. of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Eleanor Switzer of Concordia; and a grandson, Richard F. of Canon City, Colo.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Salina. A private family burial service will be in the Roselawn Memorial Park.

CLAY CENTER -- Gladys "Gerry" Crawford, 93, Clay Center, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004.
Mrs. Crawford was born Gladys Gilbert on July 31, 1910, at Lincoln County, Colo. She was a teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 1981.
Survivors include a brother, Floyd Gilbert of Villages, Fla.; and three sister-in-laws, Lavonne Anderson and Charlotte Gilbert, both of Clay Center, and Grace of Salina.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Clay Center. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.

Ervin Lawerence Eldridge
Ervin Lawerence Eldridge, 81, Salina, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004.
Mr. Eldridge was born April 3, 1922, at Waverly, Ill. He was a retired security officer for the MGM Grand Hotel. He enlisted in the army in Oct. 1943. He served in three wars, WWII, the Korean War and had two tours in Vietnam. He was with the 88th Infantry Division in Italy. He was a parachute glider and senior jumper with the 11th Airborne Division. He was a member of the Army/Europe Intelligence Division. He served with the 54th Infantry Division Davy Crockett Section and Fort Riley's "Big Red One" during Vietnam. He was the advisor to the Army National Guard before retiring in 1967. He was also a life member of the American Legion, VFW and the DAV.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of the home; a daughter, Beverly of Salina; and two adopted daughters, Janet Guerrero and Carolyn Jo Walker, both of Salina.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. A private family burial will be held.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina.
