McPHERSON -- Paul Edward Prather, 91, McPherson, died Monday, June 7, 2004.

Mr. Prather was born Aug. 13, 1912, in Mound City, Mo. He was a retired master carpenter and furniture refinisher and also a coach and teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl H. of the home; a daughter, Kay A. Prather-Rodriguez of Lawrence; a sister, Helen Bieber of Bakersfield, Calf.; and a brother, Edwin of Mound City.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson 67460. Inurnment will be in McPherson Cemetery, prior to the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Student Nursing Scholarship or The Cedars, in care of the funeral home.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

Joan I. Rice
NORTON -- Joan I. Rice, 74, Norton, died Monday, June 7, 2004.

Mrs. Rice was born John I. Wilson on Dec. 20, 1929, in Junction City. She served as director of the Norton Manor and also worked at the Sunshine Day Care Center.

Survivors include her husband, Mel of the home; two daughters, Lori Powlas of Everett, Wash., and Diane Taylor of Roseville, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Norton. Inurnment will be in Norton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church and Sunshine Day Care Center.

Jean Shanelec
ELLSWORTH -- Jean Shanelec, Ellsworth, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004.

Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, is handling arrangements.

Tracy Thompson
PLAINVILLE -- Tracy Thompson, 63, Plainville, died Sunday, June 6, 2004.

Mr. Thompson was born July 4, 1940, in Hays. He was a cattleman, farmer and Angus breeder in Rooks County.

Survivors include three sisters, Leila Bair and Lanita Ehrlich, both of Wilson, and Norma Jordan of Gem.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Plainville. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Plainville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to House Calls/Home Health and Hospice of Plainville, the church or American Cancer Society, in care of Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville 67663.

Harry Thye
HILLSBORO -- Harry Thye, 86, Hillsboro, died Monday, June 7, 2004.

Frank Baker, 68, Salina, died Monday, June 14, 2004.

Aline M. Becker
GOODLAND -- Aline M. Becker, 85, Goodland, died Friday, June 11, 2004, as the result of a vehicle crash.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; and an infant son, Clarence Dean. A daughter, Mary Wyant, and granddaughter, Christine Williams, died in the same crash.

Survivors include two daughters, Berta Ann Egan of Longmont, Colo., and Rose Marie Phillips of Menlo; three sons, Eugene L. of Goodland, Robert E. of Hoxie and Donald Joseph of Winona; a sister, Eunice Unruh of Moundridge; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Mountain time Wednesday at Max Jones Fieldhouse, Goodland. Burial will be in Wallace Cemetery.

A vigil with a rosary said will be at 6 p.m. Mountain time today at the fieldhouse.

Memorials may be made to the Garrett and Caylee Williams Education Fund.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Mountain time today at Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland 67735.

Rosa "Doty" Christiansen
COLBY -- Rosa "Doty" Christiansen, 95, Colby, died Saturday, June 12, 2004.
Mrs. Christiansen was born Rosa Bierce on April 4, 1909, in Oakley. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Arley H., died in 1981.

Survivors include a son, Ken of Brewster; three daughters, Betty Rundel of Colby, Bonnie Biggs of McDonald and Kay Runzel of St. Francis; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Harrison Chapel, 190 S. Franklin, Colby 67701. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery, Colby.

Memorials may be made to Prairie Senior Living Complex, in care of any Colby bank or the funeral chapel.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Arthur Hamel
DAMAR -- Arthur Hamel, Damar, died Monday, June 14, 2004.
Spencer-Stinemetz Chapel, Hill City, is handling arrangements.

Harry Clifford Hanson
MANKATO -- Harry Clifford Hanson, 94, Mankato, died Sunday, June 13, 2004.
Mr. Hanson was born Jan. 26, 1910, northeast of Mankato. He was a farmer.

His wife, Ruth, died in 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne of Salina and Lloyd of Mankato; a sister, Lena Berry of Mankato; five grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato.

Memorials may be made to the church or Solomon Valley Hospice, Beloit.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Melby Mortuary, 402 North High, Mankato 66956.

Olive Irene Hay
s ELLIS -- Olive Irene Hays, 93, Ellis, died Saturday, June 12, 2004.
Mrs. Hays was born Olive Irene Mickelson on Feb. 16, 1911, in McCracken, to Frederick and Florence (Carter) Mickelson. She graduated from Ellis High School in 1930 and was a member of Ellis United Methodist Church, UMW and AARP.

She married Jay C. "Bud" Hays on March 5, 1932, in WaKeeney. He died in 1997.

She also was preceded in death by a grandchild, Ryan Hockman; a great-grandchild, Brandon Larsen; her parents, two brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include three sons, David M. and wife Sharon of Wiley, Colo., Jay C. and wife LuAnne of Salina, and Alan and wife Donna of Ellis; four daughters, Evelyn L. Schumacher of Hays, Donna and Ervin Kuhn of Ellis, Ellen J. and Kent Baldwin of Great Bend, and Cleo and Rick Hockman of Hill City; a brother, Clarence Mickelson of North Platte, Neb.; five sisters, Thelma McCurdy of Gardner, Hazel Dirks of Hesston, Florence Harris of Albion, Ill., and Bonnie DeLong and Betty Wayman, both of Ellis; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Ellis United Methodist Church, the Rev. Glenn Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis.

Memorials may be made to the church.

George Michael Holub
MARION -- George Michael Holub, 73, Marion, died Sunday, June 13, 2004.
Mr. Holub was born April 24, 1931, in Pilsen. He was a mechanic.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Holub of Florence and Benny Key Jr. of Lincolnville; four daughters, Julie Hess of Salina, Chrissy Carrig of Cupertino, Calif., Aline DePew of Auburn, Calif., and Debra Walline of McPherson; a brother, Wencel "Jim" Holub of Marion; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John Nepomocene Catholic Church (Holy Family Parish), Pilsen. Burial will be in Pilsen Church Cemetery.

A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Pilsen Community Center, in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm, Marion 66861.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Wilhelmina Anne Kreutzer
QUINTER -- Wilhelmina Anne Kreutzer, 90, Quinter, died Sunday, June 13, 2004.
Miss Kreutzer was born July 29, 1913, in rural Liebenthal. She was a nun in the Franciscan Order in Milwaukee for 44 years, retiring in 1997.

Survivors include two brothers, Bernie Kreutzer of Leoti and Jerome Kreutzer of Yuma, Ariz.; and two sisters, Mary Bauck of Leoti and Lydia Schoenberger of WaKeeney.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.

A wake will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S. Main, Quinter 67752.

Memorials may be made for Masses or to Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care, in care of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Doris M. McDowell
ABILENE -- Doris M. McDowell, 83, Abilene, died Sunday, June 13, 2004.
Mrs. McDowell was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Portland, Maine. She was a homemaker and had worked as a nurse's aide at Memorial Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milford.

Survivors include a daughter, Louise Habacker of Abilene; a son, Ralph of Abilene; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside inurnment service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.

Memorials may be made to Abilene Eagles Auxiliary, in care of Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 N.W. Third, Abilene 67410.

There will be no visitation.

Gary L. Paris
CONCORDIA -- Gary L. Paris, 69, Concordia, died Sunday, June 13, 2004.
Mr. Paris was born April 25, 1935, in Concordia. He formerly operated and owned Paris Motorcycle Shop, then Paris Auto Body Paint and Fender.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Neill of Springfield, La., and Dawnel Leblanc of Madisonville, La.; a brother, Michael of Concordia; a care-giver, Becky Mason of Concordia; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Chapel, 325 W. Sixth, Concordia 66901. Burial will be in St. Concordia Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at American Legion Post 76.

Memorials may be made to the Gary L. Paris Memorial Fund for Nursing Scholarships.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel. The casket will remain closed.

Robert Rodie
WaKEENEY -- Robert Rodie, 73, WaKeeney, died Sunday, June 13, 2004.
Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney, is handling arrangements.

Esta Viola Roeder
NORTON -- Esta Viola Roeder, 91, Norton, died Sunday, June 13, 2004.
Mrs. Roeder was born Esta Viola Peterson on March 9, 1913, southwest of Holdrege, Neb. She was a homemaker and had been a teacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin, in 1990; and a great-grandson.

Survivors include four daughters, Margaret Donnelly of Sterling, Colo., Delpha Steinmetz of Norton, Etta Bergeron of Cartersville, Ga., and Judy Kimball of Manhattan; two sons John Floyd of Hutchinson and Jerry of Norton; 27 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Norton Christian Church. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church and Norton Senior Center.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Enfield Funeral Home, 215 W. Main, Norton 67654.

Shirley L. Scott
Shirley L. Scott, 67, Salina, died Monday, June 14, 2004.
Mrs. Scott was born Shirley L. Marcotte on Oct. 30, 1936, to Henry and Jewel Elizabeth Marcotte in Thomas County. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Debra Rogan and husband Don of Lincoln County, and Lisa Hoffman and husband Joe and Cynthia Todd and husband Brent, all of Denver; three sisters, Marge McCants of Green Valley, Ariz., Beth Stull and husband Dale of Goodland, and Carol Jones and husband Gerald of Concordia; a half-sister, Pearlie Mae Chadwick and husband Mike of Cortez, Colo.; her stepmother, Pearl Marcotte of Cortez; a great-aunt, Joan Hartley and husband Willard of Brewster; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchidren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at The Crossroads Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Kansas Mental Health Center. in care of The Crossroads Club.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

Christine M. Williams
GOODLAND -- Christine M. Williams, 35, Goodland, died Friday, June 11, 2004, as the result of an automobile crash.
Her mother, Mary A. Wyant, and grandmother, Aline M. Becker, died in the same crash.

Survivors include her father, Charles J. Wyant of Goodland; her husband, Greg of Goodland; two children, Garrett and Caylee; and two brothers, Chuck and Craig Wyant, both of Wichita.
