HAYS — Agnes I. Holzmeister, 100, Hays, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004.

Mrs. Holzmeister was born Agnes I. Leiker on May 21, 1904, in Munjor. She was a sales clerk at Wiesner’s Department Store, Hays, prior to her retirement.

Survivors include a daughter, Sherel Wingard of Valencia, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Church, Hays. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hays.

There will be an Altar Society and Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m. Sunday, followed by a Daughter of Isabella rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Brock’s North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays 67601.

Memorials may be made to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, Hays.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday and 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Monday at the chapel.

James E. Lawson
AGENDA — James E. Lawson, 77, Agenda, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004.

Mr. Lawson was born April 9, 1927, in rural Cuba. He was a retired Republic County Highway Department employee.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie M., of Agenda; three sons, Robert J., Randy G. and Alan W., all of Agenda; two daughters, Eloise A. Broughton of Millsap, Texas, and Teresa Mahan of Mineral Wells, Texas; two sisters, Barbara Reynolds and Gloria Kolman, both of Cuba; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Agenda Cemetery. Inurnment will be in Agenda Cemetery, with Masonic service by Cuba Masonic Lodge 362 and military service by William Fleming American Legion Post 345, Cuba.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cuba Masonic Lodge 362 AF&AM.

Sister Georgina Maher
CONCORDIA — Sister Georgina Maher, 101, Concordia, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004.

Sister Maher was born Gertrude Catherine on Feb. 8, 1903, in Monett, Mo. She retired from teaching in 1987.

A Bible vigil will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Nazarene Motherhouse Chapel. Burial will be in Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph Health Care Retirement Fund or Apostolic Works of the Sisters, Box 279, Concordia 66901.

Lydia L. McMullen
PLAINVILLE — Lydia L. McMullen, 89, Plainville, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004.

Mrs. McMullen was born Lydia L. Lang on June 27, 1915, in Ellis. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 1979; and a son, Patrick, in 2001.

Survivors include a son, David of Courtland; a daughter-in-law, Karen of Plainville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plainville.

A Ladies Guild rosary will be said at 3 p.m. Sunday at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville 67663 with a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Gordon Minney
ATWOOD — Gordon Minney, 93, Atwood, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004.

Mr. Minney was born July 21, 1911, in Rawlins County. He was a farmer and rancher.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; a son, Jeff; and a daughter, Dede Minney.

Survivors include two sons, Mike and Brad, both of Fort Collins, Colo.; and a daughter, Patrice of Pretty Prairie.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Brantley Funeral Home, 215 S. Fourth, Atwood 67330. Burial will be in Atwood Fairview Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Rawlins County Historical Society.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at the funeral home.

Delores J. Montgomery
PLEASANTON — Delores J. Montgomery, 74, Pleasanton, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004.

Mrs. Montgomery was born Delores J. Schoshke on Feb. 16, 1930, in Lincoln County. She was a seamstress with Braemoor prior to retiring.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dee, in 2003; and an infant daughter.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Dennis of Mound City and Neta Leonard of Pleasanton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home Chapel, 816 Main, Pleasanton 66075. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Fort Scott.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel.

Kathleen Park
WICHITA — Kathleen Park, 65, Wichita, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004.

Ms. Park was born on Aug. 17, 1939, in Wichita to C. Walter and Margaret (Deines) Park.

She received her undergraduate degree in speech pathology from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She worked as a speech pathologist for the hearing impaired in the Wichita school system for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a brother, Roger Park and wife Carol of Marshfield, Wis.; two nieces, Karen and Jessica; a nephew, Nicholas; and her friend, Guy Waldo.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Central Christian Church, Wichita.

Bernice L. Porter
Bernice L. Porter, 76, Salina, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004.

Mrs. Porter was born Bernice L. Falk on Oct. 31, 1928, in Alta Vista. She was the owner of Nature’s Place Health Food, Salina.

She attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina.

She was married to Samuel Mills Porter on Oct. 11, 1953, in Manhattan. He preceded her in death in 1985.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lester Falk; and a sister, Gladys Mayer.

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Waters and husband Jim of Salina; a son, Del L. of Salina; three grandsons, Steven J. Waters of Alexandria, Va., and Scott S. Waters and Chris A. Porter, both of Salina; and two granddaughters, Jamie L. Porter and Jennifer L. Waters, both of Salina.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Andrew Gardner officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Wilsey Cemetery.

Mr. Sibley was born April 18, 1920, in Beloit. He was a carpet installer.

SOLOMON — Wayne M. Beemer, 76, Solomon, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004.

Mr. Beemer was born Sept. 14, 1928, south of Abilene. He farmed for several years and managed service stations in Solomon and Salina, retiring in 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma, of Solomon; a son, Dan of Great Bend; three daughters, Glenda Singleton of Denver, Jan Beemer of Wichita and Sharon Keenan of Houston; four stepsons, Dennis Rector of Great Bend, Larry Rector of Topeka, Randall Rector of Wichita and Steven Rector of Seattle; a stepdaughter, Deborah Edwards of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Betty Cox of Missouri and Velma Howie of Salina; two brothers, Wilbur of Tucson, Ariz., and Maynard of Menasha, Wis.; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.

Henry A. Bender
RUSSELL — Henry A. Bender, 81, Russell, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004.

Mr. Bender was born April 4, 1923, north of Russell. He was a farmer and stockman.

Survivors include his wife, Marceline, of the home; two sons, Michael of Sterling and Richard of Shreveport, La.; two daughters, Margaret Mai of Yuma, Ariz., and Nancy Underwood of Russell; a brother, Fritz of Yuma, Ariz.; two sisters, Betty Moss of Hutchinson and Mary Bridges of Russell; and 10 grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Russell. Burial will be in Russell City Cemetery.

Mr. Bishop was born Nov. 20, 1937, in Portland, Ore. He was a truck driver.

Survivors include two daughters, Coa Buckle of Denver City, Texas, and Kathy Thomas of Conroe, Texas; a son, William of Lovelady, Texas; two brothers, Danny Bishop of Kansas City, Kan., and Tom Klassen of Hutchinson; two sisters, Nancy Leonard of Entiat, Wash., and Dorene Fuqua of Council Grove; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
