COFFEYVILLE — Leo B. Charvat, 84, Coffeyville, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005.

Mr. Charvat was a mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Adaline R., of the home; a son, Leo Dean of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Jolene Campbell of Cockeysville, Md.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Coffeyville. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, Wilson.

A rosary vigil will be at 7 p.m. today at the church.

Memorials may be made to Holy Name Catholic School.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan 67361, is handling arrangements.

Patricia L. Dalhaus
ABILENE — Patricia L. Dalhaus, 57, Abilene, died Saturday, April 9, 2005.

Mrs. Dalhaus was born July 31, 1947, in St. Charles, Mo. She worked at the Dickinson County courthouse.

Her husband, Donald, died April 5, 2005.

Survivors include her father, Garth Burton, of Highland, Ill.; and a stepson, Jeffrey Dalhaus of Columbus, Miss.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 N.W. Third, Abilene 67410.

Memorials may be made to Camp Hope, American Heart Association or American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

There will be no visitation.

Virginia Ekholm
McPHERSON — Virginia Ekholm, 91, McPherson, died Friday, April 8, 2005.

Mrs. Ekholm was born Virginia Richards on Feb. 26, 1914, in rural Osborne. She was a school teacher in Inman and also taught at numerous country schools in Osborne, Rice and McPherson counties.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in 2002; and a son, David D.

Survivors include a son, Richard R. of Inman; a sister, Edith Horn of Rawlins, Wyo.; and five grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Andover Lutheran Church, Windom. Burial will be in Andover Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid, McPherson 67460, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Delbert O. Garrison
HILL CITY — Delbert O. Garrison, 74, Hill City, died Thursday, April 7, 2005.

Mr. Garrison was born Sept. 12, 1930, in rural Penokee. He was a crude oil transport truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Jenna Rae, of Hill City; two sons, Lonnie C. of Hill City and Robert “Bob” of Wichita; three daughters, Bonnie Kerbaugh of Garden City and Vicki Rae Garrison and Sherry C. Seeger, both of Hill City; three brothers, Francis “Frank” and Bill, both of Hill City, and Darrell of Ness City; three sisters, Donna Petterson of Buhl, Idaho, Janice Slaven of Aurora, Colo., and Mary Jackson of Hill City; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hill City Christian Church. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Hill City.

Memorials may be made to Graham County Hospital Hospice/HomeHealth.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Spencer-Stinemetz Chapel, 522 N. Pomeroy, Hill City 67642, and from 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.

Julia Moos
PLAINVILLE — Julia Moos, 89, Plainville, died Saturday, April 9, 2005.

Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, Plainville, is handling arrangements.

Belva Ostrum
HILL CITY — Belva Ostrum, 99, Hill City, died Monday, April 4, 2005.

Mrs. Ostrum was born Belva Jones on Oct. 28, 1905, northeast of Hill City. She and her husband owned and operated an abstract company in Hays for more than 30 years.

Her husband, Francis William, died in 1982.

A private family graveside service was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Hill City.

Spencer-Stinemetz Chapel, 522 N. Pomeroy, Hill City 67642, handled arrangements.

Gerald Rex Shaw
SELDEN — Gerald Rex Shaw, 72, Selden, died Thursday, April 7, 2005.

Mr. Shaw was born April 3, 1933, in Phillips County. He was a farmer and rancher.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianna Rowlison.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle, of Selden; two sons, Richard Rowlison of Jennings and Ricky Rowlison of Ukiah, Calif.; three daughters, Pat Sharp of Dighton, Vicky Sulzman of Oakley and Wanda Schritter of Goodland; a twin brother, Tex Shaw of Selden; a sister, Doris Jean Oliver of Rexford; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Golden Plains Grade School Gym. Burial will be in Selden Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to noon Monday at Pauls Funeral Home, Fourth and Illinois, Selden 67757.

Bobby E. Walston
BENNINGTON — Bobby E. Walston, 79, Bennington, died Thursday, April 7, 2005.

Mr. Walston was born Sept. 28, 1925, in Bennington. He was a farmer and rancher. He was well known for his teams of Belgian draft horses and his Black Angus cattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Clayton and Helen Ione Walston; and his wife, Bonnie L., in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheree Gill and husband Rusty of Baldwin City; a son, Robert of Hamburg, Pa.; two brothers, George “Kenneth” of Salina and Vilo of Bennington; four grandchildren, Russ Gill, Mary Kivett, Robin Wiggans and Miranda Walston; six great-grandchildren, Bobby Gill, Analise Gill, Mackenzie Kivett, Gracie Kivett, Noah Kivett and Seth Schraml; and his companion and close friend, Luella Manning.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Belmont Boulevard Christian Church, Salina, with the Rev. Greg Guy officiating. Burial will be in Bennington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tammy Walker Cancer Center, Salina.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Shields Funeral Home, 405 Argyle, Minneapolis 67467, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Vernon L. Wranosky
HADDAM — Vernon L. Wranosky, 85, Haddam, died Saturday, April 9, 2005.

Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, is handling arrangements.

Esther Mae Wurtz
TOPEKA — Esther Mae Wurtz, 87, Topeka, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005.

Mrs. Wurtz was born Esther Mae Haidsiack on April 3, 1918, in Nelson, Neb. She farmed near Belleville for 23 years and then cooked at the Belleville Manor for 16 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Joseph; and a son, Steven.

Survivors include four daughters, Sharon Courtway of Huntington Beach, Calif., Barbara Wurtz of Topeka, Joyce Cox of Salena, Ore., and Beth Carlson of Salt Lake City; and two sisters, Ruth Borcherding of Schaller, Iowa, and Marie Lawrence of Neodesha.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Topeka. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Belleville City Cemetery, Belleville.

Memorials may be made to Esther Wurtz Memorial Fund, in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a parish rosary will be said at 4 p.m.

Fred E. Zillinger
PHILLIPSBURG — Fred E. Zillinger, 76, Phillipsburg, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005.

Mr. Zillinger was born April 2, 1929, in Phillips County. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Luella, of the home; four sons, Charles of Troy, Idaho, Jeffrey of Topeka, Everett of Shepardstown, W.Va., and Gregory of Hannover, N.D.; two brothers, Andrew and Ray, both of Phillipsburg; six sisters, Marian King of Hays, Bertha Whitney of Phillipsburg, Ruth Halett of Nowata, Okla., Esther Lynn of Edmond, Okla., Ellen McKinsey of Aurora, Colo., and Genevieve Townley of Kingman; and 12 grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church Building Fund or Phillips County Hospital Long Term Care.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

COLBY — Doyle J. Zimmerman, 74, Colby, died Saturday, April 9, 2005.

Virgil Otis Conn
HILL CITY — Virgil Otis Conn, 91, Hill City, died Thursday, April 14, 2005.

Mr. Conn was born Jan. 3, 1914, in Rooks County. He was a contract mail carrier for 34 years and a farmer and stockman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Mae, in 1987; and a grandchild.

Survivors include a son, Errol of Hill City; a daughter, Virgie LaRue of Cortez, Colo.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wildhorse Township Cemetery, Bogue.

Memorials may be made to Dawson Place Nursing Home, Hill City.

There will be no visitation.

George J. Currie
George J. Currie, 73, Salina, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005.

Mr. Currie was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Salina. He was a farmer/dairyman his entire life in the Kipp area. He was a former member of the Kipp Presbyterian Church, serving as a trustee and elder. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee, and was in the church men’s chorus and chancel choir. He was a member of the Saline County Planning and Zoning Commission, a board member and chairman of the Farm Service Agency and a member of the Lindsborg Masonic Lodge and ISIS Shrine Temple Engineers.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry; a sister, Carolyn Blessing; and a great-granddaughter, Madison Nikole Dinkel.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Anna, of the home; two sons, Mike and wife Nikki of Gypsum and Curt and wife Tonya of Tomball, Texas; a daughter, Julie Hollis and husband Ken of Houston; and seven grandchildren, Thayne and Taylor Currie, Brooke Currie Dinkel, Anna, Jason and Sara Hollis and Sara Currie.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 Neal, Salina. Private burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.

Memorials may be made to the church, Hospice of Salina or Shriners Children’s Hospital.

Wallace E. “Slim” Elder
McPHERSON — Wallace E. “Slim” Elder, 77, McPherson, died Thursday, April 14, 2005.

Mr. Elder was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Independence. He was a retired machinist for Swick-Guth and a custodian at the McPherson Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of the home; two sons, Murray of Houston and Kenny of Salina; three daughters, Connie Burger of Larned, Belinda Fouse of Manhattan and Cindy Stinson of Lubbock Texas; a brother, Roscoe of Coffeyville; a sister, Pauline Henry of Hastings, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Bible Church, McPherson. Burial will be in Canton Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Stockham Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson 67460, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m.

Clarence Ray “Bud” Ensminger
McPHERSON — Clarence Ray “Bud” Ensminger, 91, McPherson, died Thursday, April 14, 2005.

Mr. Ensminger was born Jan. 18, 1914, in rural McPherson. He was a farmer and worked for M.E. White Pipeline, McPherson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Grace.

Survivors include a daughter, Twila Mehl of McPherson; four sons, Lonnie, Darrell and Wayne, all of McPherson, and Richard of Glendale, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist, McPherson. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church, Hospice Care of Kansas or McPherson Senior Center.

ELLSWORTH — Edward Foran, 91, Ellsworth, died Thursday, April 14, 2005.

BELLA VISTA, Ark. — Florence Muriel Joyce, 83, Bella Vista, formerly of Minneapolis, Kan., died Wednesday, April 13, 2005.

Mrs. Joyce was born July 31, 1921, in Dunlap, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Burton, in 2001; and a son, Gary Eugene.

Survivors include two sons, Ralph Dean of Topeka, Kan., and Dennis Burton of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Donna Mae Brandon of Mankato, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bella Vista Cemetery.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bella Vista Funeral Home, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista 72715.

Phyllis A. Judd, 66, Salina, died Thursday, April 14, 2005.
