Dorothy Louise Crabtree Needham
GIRARD -- Dorothy Louise Crabtree Needham, 76, of Girard, died at 2:35 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. She entered the hospital Nov. 17.
She was born Aug. 13, 1924, at Jasper, Mo., to Frank Edgar and Orpha Mae (Ivey) Crabtree. She attended schools at Lamar, Mo., and Golden City, Mo. She graduated from Pittsburg State University with a bachelor of science degree in 1952 and a master of science degree in 1980.
She served in the U.S. Marines during World War II.
She married Lowell Thomas Needham on June 12, 1954, at the First Presbyterian Church at Girard. He preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1989.
She was an elementary teacher at Bonner Springs, fifth-grade supervisor of Horace Mann Laboratory School, and fourth-grade teacher at Lakeside. She worked as a home demonstration agent in Belleville.
Mrs. Needham was a substitute teacher and tutor in Tripoli, Libya, from 1965 to 1969, and in Caracas, Venezuela, from 1969 to 1973.
She was owner and operator of Needham's Antiques in Girard at the time of her death. She also was the director of food and nutrition for the Community Action Program in Girard.
Mrs. Needham was a former treasurer of PSU Faculty Wives, past member of the American Association of University Women in Pittsburg and Caracas. She was past commander and chaplain of the Betty Lou Vilmer Post No. 394, American Legion of Pittsburg, and past memorial chairman and board member of the Crawford County Diabetic Association. She also was the author of a curriculum guide, "Welcome to the Real World," and editor for the book, "Food and Nutrition Services of Southeast Kansas."
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Girard.
Survivors include two sons, William J. Needham of Girard, and Thomas W. Needham of McCune; a brother, Dee Crabtree of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Needham's body has been donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Girard, with the Rev. David Chinn and the Rev. Steve Crabtree officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W. St. John, Girard.
Jennette May Perkins
DALLAS -- Jennette May Perkins, 89, of Dallas, formerly of Joplin, Mo., died at 7:27 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Baylor Hospital, Dallas.
She was born Oct. 4, 1911, at Crawford County near Opolis, to Tom C. and Clara Hoots Helm.
She lived the majority of her life in Joplin until her retirement.
She married Merlyn Perkins. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Perkins was a real estate agent for Charles Burt Real Estate in Joplin for many years. She retired in 1986.
She was an active member of the South Joplin Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Hood of Richardson, Texas; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, James Arthur Perkins.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Highland Park Cemetery, with Pastor Jill Cameron of the South Joplin Christian Church officiating. Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Pittsburg. Friends and family are requested to meet at the funeral home on Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The procession will leave at 9:45 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway.
Alfred 'Buddy' Rhodes Jr.
MULBERRY -- Alfred "Buddy" Rhodes Jr., 59, of Harper, Texas, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at the Veterans Hospital at Kerrville, Texas.
He was born Oct. 14, 1941, at Mulberry, to Alfred and Mary Neil Rhodes.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era.
Mr. Rhodes worked as a welding technician for a pipeline company. He served as a hunting guide and riding boss for the YO Ranch in Mountain Home, Texas, for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of Harper; a son, Alfred L. Rhodes III of St. Charles, Mo.; two brothers, Ronald Rhodes of Windsor, Mo., and Danny Rhodes of Mulberry; a sister, Lindy Rhodes of Mulberry; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rhodes has been cremated. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bedene Funeral Home, Arma, with Harry Pingree officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in the Rosebank Cemetery at Mulberry. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bedene Funeral Home, Arma.
Helen Sneed
Helen Sneed, 82, of Pittsburg, formerly of Baxter Springs, died at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, where she had been a patient for one month. She had been in ill health for the past two months, and had been a patient of the Beverly Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburg since 1993.
She was born March 7, 1918, at Glen Ellen, Ill., to Robert and Helen Mathe Hawkins. She graduated from Glen Ellen High School.
She had lived in Arma and Baxter Springs before moving to Pittsburg in 1993.
She married Jesse James Sneed on May 5, 1936, at Yuma, Ariz. He preceded her in death Oct. 14, 1993.
Mrs. Sneed had been a case researcher for the U.S. Census Bureau from 1964 until her retirement in 1980.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Macari of Cherokee; two sons, Robert James Sneed of Harlingen, Texas, and David John Sneed of Baxter Springs; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Weir.
Helen Sneed
Helen Sneed, 82, of Pittsburg, formerly of Arma and Baxter Springs, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center.
Private graveside services will be today at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, with the Rev. Jamie Tickel, of the First Baptist Church of Cherokee, officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m until 1 p.m. today at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 104 W. Main, Weir.
Syreta Ruth Snow
Syreta Ruth Snow, 82, formerly of 926 E. 14th St., died at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Medicalodge North. She was a former resident of the Knights of Columbus Towers and had been a resident of Medicalodge North since June 2000.
She was born Oct. 1, 1918, at Pittsburg, to George Logan and Lydia Ann McCubbins Chambers. She attended Lincoln Central, Roosevelt Junior High and Pittsburg High School.
She married Alvin M. Snow on May 5, 1934, at Lamar, Mo. He preceded her in death Sept. 20, 1977.
Mrs. Snow worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant at Parsons from 1942 to 1945. She worked at Seller's Cafe and the Plaza Cafe before working at the Pittsburg State University Bookstore.
She was a member of the College Heights United Methodist Church at Pittsburg, AARP, and a former member of the Rob Morris Chapter Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Pamela Milburn of Fulton, and a grandson, Steve White of Kansas City, both of whom provided for her care.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Betty Heflin; three brothers; and a sister.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Brenner Mortuary Chapel, 114 E. Fourth St., with the Rev. Stephanie Wall-Brown of the College Heights United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Brenner Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary.
Donald Glenn Wright
ARMA -- Donald Glenn Wright, 75, of Arma, died at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Infinia Nursing Home, Arma, following a long illness.
He was born Sept. 21, 1925, at Pittsburg, to George Earl and Ida E. Sipes Wright. He attended area schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School. He attended two years at Pittsburg State University.
He married Jobayne DeNeve on Feb. 27, 1959, at Pittsburg. They divorced.
Mr. Wright was a farmer. He also worked at Dickey Clay for five years.
Survivors include a son, Curtis D. Wright of Lawrence; two sisters, Mildred Brooks of Parsons, and Mardell Russell of Weir; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Douglas Wright.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Highland Park Cemetery. Burial will follow. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery for the services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway.
Marian Alice Goodwin
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Marian Alice Goodwin, 58, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Independence Regional Hospital, Independence, Mo.
She was born July 26, 1943, at Omaha, Neb., to Jacob Marian and Pearl Steinman Everhart. She was a former resident of Mindenmines. She attended Minden High School.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Lee Goodwin of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters Pamela Stewart of Tongonaxie and Debbie Lynn Peterburs of Michigan; a brother, Jacob Orville Everhart of Omaha; two sisters, Linda Boatwright of Belton, Mo., and Patricia Calabro of Omaha; five grandchildren and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. today at Newcomers Chapel, at Independence, Mo.
Jerry L. Kramer
GALESBURG -- Jerry L. Kramer, 58, a lifelong Galesburg resident, died early Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 10, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital at Kansas City, Mo. He had been critically ill for three weeks.
He was born April 27, 1943, at Galesburg, to Carl L. and Iona (Clark) Kramer. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1961.
He was a farmer and cattleman. For more than 30 years he operated S.E.K. Genetics, Inc. He sold the business five years ago.
He was a member of and served on the board of the Galesburg United Methodist Church. He was on the boards of the Neosho County Conservation District; See-Kan RC & D, serving as treasurer; the See-Kan Cooperative Development, Inc.; the Galesburg Civic Club, serving as treasurer; and the Galesburg Days Committee.
On Aug. 11, 1960, he married Lois M. Gough at the Galesburg United Methodist Church. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include one son, David Kramer, of Galesburg; and one daughter, Tammy Miller of Galesburg; his mother of Galesburg; one brother, John Kramer, of Galesburg; two sisters, Judy Farber, of Derby, and Joyce Ubben, of Rose Hill; and five grandchildren.
His father preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Galesburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tim McCrary officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Galesburg. Katherine Mae Marquardt
CARTHAGE -- Katherine Mae Marquardt, 79, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at St. Luke's Nursing Center at Carthage Mo.
She was born June 22, 1922, at Mindenmines, Mo. In May of 1940, she graduated from Pittsburg High School.
On Sept. 7, 1940, she married Jack Marquardt. He preceded her in death Nov. 18, 1993.
She was a member of the Hillside Christian Church of Wichita.
Survivors include one daughter, Vicky Stuck of Joplin, Mo.; one sister, Leona Miller of Detroit; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary, at Joplin.
Leona L. Morgan
ALABASTER, Ala.-- Leona L. Morgan, 84, of Alabaster, Ala., formerly of McCune, died at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, in the Shelby Medical Center at Alabaster.
She was born Feb. 16, 1917, at Milfay, Okla., to Ralph and Gladys (Estes) Carson. She attended elementary school at various locations, graduating from Ottawa High School.
On May 18, 1943, she married Wayne Delos Morgan at Ottawa. He preceded her in death June 11, 1983.
Membership was held in the First Baptist Church of Oswego, at McCune and the Methodist Church in Alabama.
Survivors include one daughter, Marla Harper of Westover, Ala.; one brother, Darrell Morgan of Branson, Mo; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the United Methodist Church at McCune with the Rev. Dwain Harper and Rev. Pauline Clugston officiating. Burial will be in the McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. Saturday until service time at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Murdock Funeral Home at Columbus.
Barbara Pryor
COLUMBUS -- Barbara Pryor, 53, of Columbus, died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at her home.

Leona P. Taylor
COLUMBUS -- Leona P. Taylor, 81, of Columbus, died at 6 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2002, at St. John's Regional Medical Center at Joplin, Mo., after an illness.
She was born Nov. 11, 1920, at Jasper County, Mo., to Alva Barton and Bunnie Carrie (Atkinson) Pugh.
She moved with her family in 1934 to Columbus, where she attended school.
She worked for the Glenn Barry Garment Factory in Columbus for seven years.
On Jan. 29, 1946, she married Clarence Taylor. He preceded her in death Oct 27, 1964.
Membership was held at the Calvary Baptist Church at Columbus.
Survivors include one sister, Ester Henderson of Weir, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe, Bill, Harold, and Albert Pugh; and one sister, Dorothy Spencer.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 15, at the Murdock Funeral Home of Columbus, with the Rev. Todd MacLean officiating. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery at Columbus. The family will meet at the Senior Citizen Building at Weir for lunch the day of the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Murdock Funeral Home.
