Lola Isabelle Maddox
Lola Isabelle Maddox, 85, Salina, died Monday, May 16, 2005.
Mrs. Maddox was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Sedan, the daughter of Herschel Columbus and Eva Mae (Winchell) Blanchard. She graduated from Sedan High School and was a real estate saleswoman at Lee Haworth Construction and Millwood Realty in Salina. She was a member of the Salina Garden Club, Professional Engineer Wives Auxiliary, YWCA, University United Methodist Church and a past member of the Salina Board of Realtors. She was the Real Estate Salesperson of the year for three years during the mid-'70s. She married John Maddox on May 23, 1937, in Sedan. He died in 2003.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Glover and husband Richard of Red Oak and Carolyn Bice and her late husband, Carl, of Wichita; five grandchildren, Jim Hager of Wichita, Lt. Col. Gregory W. Bice and wife Susan of Stafford, Va., Julie Hash and husband Steve of Farmington, N.M., Karen Chapman and husband Brian of Salina and Marsha Fisher and husband Todd of Wichita; two sisters, Lena Sanders of Independence and Peggy Willcut of Wichita; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at University United Methodist Church, Salina, the Rev. David Bolz officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Greenwood Cemetery, Sedan.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina, 139 N. Penn, Salina, or Salvation Army, 1137 N. Santa Fe., Salina.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Carlson-Ford-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.
Noble Daniel Matheson
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - Noble Daniel Matheson, 79, Broken Arrow, died May 10, 2005.
Mr. Matheson was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Paradise, Kan. He was a carpenter and contractor. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a medic and surgical tech in Germany.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemary Rice; two brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include his former wife, Marilyn Matheson, of Salina, Kan.; three daughters, Sandy Miller of Salina and Denise Haynes and Lisa Salehi-Brown, both of Tulsa; six grandchildren, Cris Freeman of Smolan, Kan., and Drew Haynes, Lauren Haynes, Jake Haynes, Rebekah Salehi and Aaron Salehi, all of Tulsa; and four great-grandchildren, Sheldon Freeman, Rachel Freeman, Samantha Freeman and Daniel Freeman, all of Smolan.
The funeral was at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow. Burial was in Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson.

GLEN ELDER - Bernice O. Megli, 92, Glen Elder, died Monday, May 16, 2005.
Mrs. Megli was born Bernice O. Kimble on Nov. 8, 1912, at Downs. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, George, died in 1995.
Survivors include a son, Darrell of Evansville, Ind.; two daughters, Marilyn Albright of Atchison and Janice vonHusen of Alamogordo, N.M.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Glen Elder United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery, Cawker City.

Mr. Smies was born Sept. 28, 1919, at Leavenworth. He was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Courtland; two daughters, Marcia Smies of Courtland and Betty Puyear of Hutchinson; a son, Charles of Courtland; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Lauren of Bellingham, Wash.; a brother, William of Courtland; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Specht was born Minnie M. Nye on Sept. 5, 1905, in Alma. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sr., in 1970; and two sons, Dale and LeRoy.
Survivors include a son, Edward Jr. of Beloit; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beloit. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit.

BELLEVILLE - Helen Tarkowski Thomasson, 83, Belleville, died Monday, May 16, 2005.
Mrs. Thomasson was born Helen Blanchat on Dec. 7, 1921, in Medicine Lodge. She was a homemaker and a retired NCK Electric secretary and bookkeeper.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bernard J. Tarkowski, in 1988, and U.O. Tommy Thomasson Jr., on Nov. 5, 2004; and a grandson.
Survivors include a son, Jon Tarkowski of Wichita; three stepsons, Andrew Thomasson of Wellsville, Timothy Thomasson of Lawrence and James M. Thomasson of Chanute; three daughters, Lora Martin and Paula Jeardoe, both of Belleville, and Cathy Grant of Wichita; a stepdaughter, Callie J. Thomasson of Garden City; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church, Belleville. Burial will be in St. Josaphats Cemetery, rural Belleville.

MEADE - Willard D. "Bud" Waite, 89, Meade, died Friday, May 13, 2005.
Mr. Waite was born Nov. 23, 1915, at Bennington. He was the park manager for Meade State Lake, retiring in 1980.
Survivors include his wife, Leota; a daughter, Judy White of Littleton, Colo.; a son, Curtis of Leavenworth; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at the United Methodist Church, Meade. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Bennington Cemetery.

Leo Edward Wetter, 56, Salina, died Sunday, May 15, 2005.
Mr. Wetter was born March 2, 1949, in Norton. He worked in construction, retiring in 1996.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice Trent of Vacaville, Calif., and Irene Clemens of Plattsmouth, Neb.; a niece, Yvonne Neves of Dixon, Calif., and two nephews, Lonnie Clemens of Plattsmouth and Denny Clemens of Omaha, Neb.

Mrs. Wiens was born Rubena M. Enns on Oct. 9, 1919, in McPherson County. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a son, Harlan.
Survivors include her husband, Henry R.; three sons, Don of Kensington, and Larry and Richard, both of McPherson; two daughters, Dorothy Sand of McPherson and Mary Peters of Sterling, Colo.; two brothers, Waldo Enns and Menno Enns, both of Inman; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Verna; two sons, Gary Don of Richland, Wash., and Keith of Prairie Village; a daughter, Marilyn Elsasser of Derby; a sister, Marie Erbert of Palco; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Burton was born Katie E. Aaron on Sept. 4, 1916, at Blue Ridge, Ga. She was a manager at Pacific Bell Telephone in Washington, retiring in 1980.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy, of Herington; and a sister, Kathleen L. Anderson of Tacoma, Wash.
