WaKEENEY - Martha V. Mai, 88, WaKeeney, died Thursday, June 2, 2005.
Mrs. Mai was born Martha V. Zahlis on Nov. 16, 1916, in Beausejour, Manitoba, Canada. She was a music teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emanuel A., in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Loren of Hutchinson and Neil of Ponca City, Okla.; two daughters, Myrna Mai of Independence and Jan Peak of Hutchinson; two brothers, Michael Zahlis of Los Angeles and Paul Zahlis of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Maria Fitzgibbon of South San Francisco; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, WaKeeney. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church or The Lutheran Home or a charity of the donor's choice.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N. 12th St., WaKeeney.
Earl L. Melby
SCANDIA - Earl L. Melby, 72, Scandia, died Thursday, June 2, 2005.
Mr. Melby was born July 12, 1932, in rural Scandia. He was a retired office manager for Reece Construction Co.
He was preceded in death by a grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve, of Scandia; four sons, Richard of Columbus, Ohio, Jim of Colorado City, Colo., and Don and Mark, both of Scandia; a brother, Harvey of Belleville; a sister, Martha Martin of Moore, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Amana Lutheran Church, Scandia. Cremation will follow the funeral with a private family inurnment at a later date in the Lutheran Cemetery, Scandia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scandia Library Building Fund.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart-Surber Funeral Home, 324 Kansas Ave., Scandia 66966.
Josephine M. Nelson
A memorial celebration for Josephine M. Nelson will be at 11 a.m. June 11, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Salina, Pastor Joel Remmers officiating.
Mrs. Nelson, 96, Salina, died Jan. 6, 2005.

Marlin "Butch" Shaw
SUPERIOR, Neb. - Marlin "Butch" Shaw, 63, Superior, died Thursday, June 2, 2005.
Mr. Shaw was born July 8, 1941, in Rockwell City, Iowa. He was a farmer and was employed at various places throughout the years.
Survivors include his wife, Avis, of Superior; a daughter, Stephanie Shaw of South Lyon, Mich.; a son, Timothy of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Cecil of Blue Hill; a sister, Marillea Hamel of Boulder City, Nev.; and a granddaughter.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel, 750 N. Commercial, Superior, NE 68978. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, with full military rites.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

BELLEVILLE - Richard Lee Beeson, 40, Belleville, died Sunday, June 5, 2005.
Mr. Beeson was born Dec. 26, 1964, in Belleville. He was a welder and fabricator.
Survivors include his wife, Jalene, of the home; a daughter, Olivia Rose Beeson of the home; a son, Quintin James Beeson of the home; a stepson, Jonathin Reed Simmons of Belleville; a sister, Phillis Bottger of Belleville; and four brothers, Larry, Robert and Ben, all of Belleville, and Charles of Waverly, Neb.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home Chapel, 1104 20th, Belleville 66935. There will be a private family inurnment.

Mr. Bogan was retired from the Department of Defense.

She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Henry; and a great-granddaughter.
Survivors include three daughters, Annie Welch of Broomfield, Colo., Emma Jean Amos of Goodland and Joyce Saylor of Denver; two sons, Lawrence of Goodland and Julius of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, Edward Mai of Tribune and Julius Mai of Salina; a sister, Lydia Lipprand of Russell; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 808 Wyoming, Goodland. A private inurnment will be at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Connie, of the home; three children, Marshall Carson and Lisa Carson, both of Goodland, and Kandie Hazzard of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two brothers, Irvin John Kuehn Jr. of Fort Lupton, Colo., and Robert Kuehn of Denver; a sister, Nancy; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Gumbir was born Freda Nikel on Sept. 2, 1911, in Olmitz. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edmound, in 1946; and a son, Martin Gumbir.
Survivors include a sister, Marie Foster of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Marilyn Morrison of Salina.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

CONCORDIA - Margaret J. "Peggy" Hein, 68, Concordia, died Saturday, June 4, 2005.
Mrs. Hein was born Margaret Jean Anderson on Aug. 5, 1936, in Jackson, Mich. She was a graduate of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She was a researcher with the Center for Applied Urban Research at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, and a banker with First National Bank, Manhattan. She was with Country Cousins in Concordia for several years.
She was a member of the American Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters. In Concordia, she was a member of the Improvement Club and the Atheneum Club.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Charles R., of Concordia; a daughter, Jennifer of Ann Arbor, Mich; a son, Chuck of Omaha; two sisters, Cathy Moore of Morning Sun, Iowa, and Mary Kelly of Oconomowoc, Wis.; and two grandchildren.
There was a private family service. She was an organ donor, and the body was cremated.

Survivors include his wife, Irma of Hillsboro; a son, Larry of Hillsboro; a daughter, Mary Lou Seaman of Valley Center; two brothers, Charles of Ramona and John C. of Herington; two sisters, Neva Heidebrecht of Lincoln, Neb., and Leona Fessler of Emporia; and six grandchildren.
