ATWOOD — Darlene M. Phelps, 65, Atwood, died Saturday, July 9, 2005.
Mrs. Phelps was born Darlene M. Wicke on May 2, 1940, north of Blakeman. She was a retired clerk of Bellamy Drug and Currier Drug.
Survivors include her husband, David of Atwood; a son, Daren of Castle Rock, Colo.; a daughter, Darla Lundberg of Chapman; a brother, Wayne of rural Atwood; a sister, Fay Ann Barenberg of McCook, Neb.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, Atwood. Burial will be in Atwood Fairview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and until the service Thursday at Williams Funeral Home, 109 N. Second, Atwood 67730.
Clayton James “C.J.” Reed
MINNEAPOLIS — Clayton James “C.J.” Reed, 34, Minneapolis, died Sunday, July 10, 2005.
Mr. Reed was born May 3, 1971, in Salina. He was a millwright at Design Plast, Salina.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Jean Trumble.
Survivors include his parents, Randall C. and Sherry A. Reed of Minneapolis; a brother, Casey of Minneapolis; a sister, Carrie Smith of Minneapolis; his grandparents, Clayton and Betty Reed of Oak Hill; a nephew, Rico Smith of Minneapolis; a niece, Katira Smith of Minneapolis; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shields Funeral Home, 405 Argyle, Minneapolis 67467. Burial will be in Mount Liberty Cemetery, Oak Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to C.J. Reed Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The casket will remain closed.

BELOIT — Edwin “Ed” Sahlfeld, 66, Beloit, died Sunday, July 10, 2005.
Mr. Sahlfeld was born Sept. 30, 1938, in Scottsville. He was a salesman for Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen, of the home; his mother, Lucille Sahlfeld of Beloit; two daughters, Belinda Robinson of Atchison and Julie Gates of Beloit; five brothers, Bob and Stan, both of Beloit, Richard of Prairie Village, Jerry of Salina and Steve of South Sioux City, Neb.; three sisters, Deanne Sirles of Glen Allen, Va., Barbara Deines of WaKeeney and Jeanette Black of Dakota City, Neb.; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Beloit. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald-Roberts Funeral Home, 910 N. Campbell, Beloit 67420.

TOPEKA — Elizabeth A. “Liz” Schoof, 74, Topeka, formerly of Herington, died Friday, July 8, 2005.
Mrs. Schoof was born Elizabeth A. Hauke on Oct. 22, 1930, in Meriden.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Conant of Burlingame and Becky Schoof-Bruner of Wichita; and four grandchildren.

Myrtle Nora Thornton
ELLSWORTH — Myrtle Nora Thornton, 96, Ellsworth, died Sunday, July 10, 2005.
Mrs. Thornton was born Myrtle Nora Maynard on Dec. 4, 1908, in Dora, Mo. She was a homemaker and a medical aide at Good Samaritan Village, Ellsworth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in 1988; and a son, Earl Jr., in 1978.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Brown of Tacoma, Wash., Jeannie Mater of Hoisington and Veatress Webb of Ellsworth; a brother, Sam Maynard of West Plains, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parsons Funeral Home, 307 N. Lincoln, Ells-worth 67439. Burial will be in Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery.

FREDERICK, Md. — Velma Irene Walters, 92, Frederick, died Saturday, July 9, 2005.
Mrs. Walters was born Velma Irene Rundle on June 6, 1913, in Clay County, Kan. She was an assistant to the U.S. secretary of health, education and welfare and secretary to the surgeon general.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Sisk and Diane Powers, both of Frederick; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home Chapel, 918 Seventh, Clay Center 67432. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jefferson United Methodist Church, Jefferson, Md.

Gladys B. Altman, 94, Salina, died June 28, 2005.
Mrs. Altman was born Gladys B. Rathbun on March 25, 1911, in Lincoln County. She was a teacher in Ottawa County for 10 years and a nurse at Asbury Hospital for eight years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton E.
Survivors include a son, Lyle D., Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Doris King of Salina; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside inurnment service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

ABILENE — Morris J. Burwell, 84, Abilene, died Monday, July 18, 2005.
Mr. Burwell was born April 28, 1921, in Abilene. He was a farmer.
His wife, Junice, died in 1987.
Survivors include a son, Jack of Abilene; two daughters, Jeanine Walker of Abilene and Janet Johnson of Salina; a brother, Glen of Manhattan; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Danner Funeral Home, Abilene. Burial will be in in Abilene Cemetery with military honors.

Delma C. Felbush, 82, Salina, formerly of Abilene, died Monday, July 18, 2005.
Mrs. Felbush was born July 21, 1922, in Enterprise. She worked for United Trust Co. and the Ben Franklin Store in Abilene.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, and a son, Lyle.
Survivors include a son, Larry of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Mary C. McQueary of Derby; three sisters, Dorothy Partch and Dorlene Brown, both of Abilene, and Donita Krause of Lawndale, Calif.; and 16 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 N.W. Third, Abilene 67410. Burial will be in Abilene Cemetery.

WICHITA — Helen S. Friend, 82, Wichita, died Saturday, July 16, 2005.
Mrs. Friend was born Helen S. Schwartz on April 7, 1923, at Los Angeles. She had been employed at Beech Aircraft in Wichita for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 1989.
Survivors include a son, Richard of Midwest City, Okla.; a daughter, Deborah Brown of Mooreland, Okla.; a sister, Marlene Kelly of Las Vegas; four grandchildren, Brandy Green, Tanner Green, Shiloh Brown and Cory Brown; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler Chapple, Maxine Ezul and Noelani Alcantar.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Joyce C. Larimore
ADAMS, Neb. — Joyce C. Larimore, 88, Adams, formerly of Beatrice and Edgar, died July 5, 2005.
Mrs. Larimore was born Joyce C. Black on Sept. 13, 1916, at Beatrice. She was an accountant and office manager.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern, and two stepdaughters, Joy Hoyer and Jean Peterson.
Survivors include a sister, Vera Metcalf of Woodland, Calif.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice.
There will be no visitation.

MULVANE — Kathleen D. Murphy, 76, Mulvane, died Sunday, July 17, 2005.
Mrs. Murphy was born Kathleen Wygal on Oct. 11, 1928, in Salina. She was a real estate agent.
Survivors include a brother, Sam Wygal of Salina; and a sister, Shirley Hinde of Newton.

Myra Ethelyn Ochs
TUCSON, Ariz. — Myra Ethelyn Ochs, 81, Tucson, formerly of Salina, Kan., died Friday, July 15, 2005.
Mrs. Ochs was born Myra Ethelyn Sneath on May 8, 1924, near Carnerio, Kan., to Clare and Bertha Sneath. She lived most of her life in Ellsworth and Saline counties, Kan. She worked at various jobs in Brookville and Salina and operated cafes in both towns. She started working for the Singer Co. in 1967 when she moved to Overland Park, Kan., and transferred to Tucson in 1975, where she was manager of her own store. She retired from Singer in 1984. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening, her church and her family. She was a member of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in Tucson. She married Lester M. Ochs on Sept. 4, 1966, in Tucson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Melvin C. Sneath.
Survivors include her husband, Lester M., of the home; a daughter, Marilyn Myers and husband Dale of Salina; a son, Ralph E. Polly and wife Mitzi of Salina; two stepchildren, Connie Reidel and husband Drew of Hays, Kan., and Darryl Ochs and wife Kathy of Kansas City; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. Main, Hoisington, Kan., 67544, the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Richard Dean Rassette
Richard Dean Rassette, 75, Salina, died Monday, July 18, 2005.
Mr. Rassette was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Abilene. He was a switchman for Union Pacific Railroad for 41 years. He was a member of the Elks Club, Masonic Temple, American Legion Post 62 and the Pioneer Lake Association. He married Betty Leinweber on Aug. 26, 1956, in Frankfort.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; a son, Brian Rassette and wife Sue of Leawood; a daughter, Diane Shandy and husband Randy of Salina; and four grandchildren, Joe and Anna Rassette of Leawood and Lisa and Amy Shandy of Salina.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Salina, the Rev. John Pehrson officiating.
Memorials may be made to the National Stroke Association or the American Diabetes Association.
There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.
