UPLAND — Gailen Lee Avery, 49, rural Upland, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006.

Mr. Avery was born May 19, 1956, in Junction City. He was a farmer and co-owner and manager of Avery-James Trucking.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice, of the home; a daughter, Dana Lynn Avery of the home; a stepson, Brian Kite of Fort Bragg, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Nicole Page of Wichita; his parents, Robert and Evelyn Avery of rural Junction City; a sister, Sharon Wine of Overland Park; a brother, Larry of Chapman; and five stepgrandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Alida-Upland Cooperative Parish, 2243-3300 Avenue, northeast of Chapman. Burial will be in Alida Zion Evangelical Cemetery, north of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Dickinson County, in care of Londeen Funeral Chapel, 206 W. Fifth, Box 429, Chapman 67431.

Visitation will be all day Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

Doris Cox, 89, Salina, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006.

Carlson-Ford-Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina, is handling arrangements.

SYLVAN GROVE — Herman Dohl, 86, Sylvan Grove, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006.

Rodrick and Minear Funeral Home, Sylvan Grove, is handling arrangements.

Darrell Lee Dutton
MANHATTAN — Darrell Lee Dutton, 69, Manhattan, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006.

Mr. Dutton was born March 28, 1936, in rural Macksville. He was a compliance program specialist for 19 years with the state ASCS office in Manhattan, retiring in 1997. He also worked for seven years at Dillon’s Westloop, Manhattan.

Survivors include his wife, Carol S., of the home; two sons, Kevin and Terry, both of Manhattan; a daughter, Tanya Dutton of Olathe; two brothers, Leroy of Canon City, Colo., and Dennis of Macksville; and a grandson. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel, 1616 Poyntz, Manhattan 66502. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

Memorials may be made to Leid Transplant Center at the Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, in care of the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Naomi Mae Fike
RAMONA — Naomi Mae Fike, 86, Ramona, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006.

Mrs. Fike was born Naomi Mae Ehrhardt on May 11, 1919, in Ramona. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Kenneth, in 1990; a daughter, Carolyn Madden, in 1963; and an infant son, James Edward, in 1944.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph of Lawrence and Steve of Walton; a daughter, Virginia Bowyer of Haysville; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rosebank Brethren in Christ Church, rural Hope. Burial will be in Lewis Cemetery, Ramona. Memorials may be made to the church or Lewis Cemetery, in care of Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, 106 N. Second, Hope 67451.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Bryan E. Highland
MILAN, Mo. — Bryan E. Highland, 41, Milan, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006. Mr. Highland was born in Colby, Kan.

Survivors include his wife, Karen; and his parents, Floyd and Barbara Highland of Colby.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn E. Kent and Son Funeral Chapel, Milan. Burial will be in Galt East Cemetery, Galt.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Grace I. Kleba
CONCORDIA — Grace I. Kleba, 85, Concordia, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006.

Nutter Mortuary, Concordia, is handling arrangements.

Ray Lewis LaRue
CLAYTON — Ray Lewis LaRue, 74, Clayton, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006. Mr. LaRue was born April 28, 1931, in Hill City. He worked in the oil fields for more than 40 years. He was co-owner of LaRue Tank Service and Ray’s Repair Clock Shop.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia, of Clayton; a son, Tony of Jennings; a daughter, Nancy Waddell of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Hoxie. Burial will be in Hoxie Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church, in care of Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, 1024 Sheridan, Hoxie 67740.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Julius Anthony Legleiter
HAYS — Julius Anthony Legleiter, 76, Hays, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006.

Mr. Legleiter was born May 30, 1929, in LaCrosse. He was a farmer and the owner of Midway Motel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rose, in 1984.

Survivors include six sons, Billy, Dan, Roger, Tim, Marty and Eric, all of Hays; two daughters, Margie Legleiter and Kim Rohr, both of Hays; two brothers, Francis of Liebenthal and Rudy of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three sisters, Marietta Walker of Minneapolis, Minn., Bernadette Oelkers of Hays and Margaret Hamilton of Dodge City; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

A parish vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. today, followed by a Liebenthal Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m. at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th & Pine, Hays 67601.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pauline Lund
LEAVENWORTH — Pauline Lund, 91, Leavenworth, formerly of Green, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006.

Mrs. Lund was born Pauline Fulton on Nov. 5, 1914, in Phillipsburg. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by two daughters.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Woodard of Phoenix and Larry Lund of Clay Center; two daughters, Marlene Scott of Liberty, Mo., and Sherrie Persyn of Leavenworth; a sister, Carmitta Wolf of Red Oak, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Chapel, 918 Seventh, Clay Center 67432. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, in care of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

R.J. “Jack” Metcalf
OBERLIN — R.J. “Jack” Metcalf, 70, Oberlin, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Oberlin.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin, and 8 a.m. until the service Thursday at the church.

There will be a time of remembrance at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Kathleen Foss Peeke
Kathleen Foss Peeke, 93, Salina, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006.

Carlson-Ford-Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina, is handling arrangements.

Jean E. Piland
WALDO — Jean E. Piland, 81, Waldo, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006.

Mrs. Piland was born Jean E. May on Aug. 8, 1924, in Broughton. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley Harrington and an infant.

Survivors include her husband, James, of the home; a son, Bill Lahar of Douglass; a daughter, Karen Carney of Hoisington; three brothers, Bob May of Hays, Charles May of Salina and Dean May of Branson, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Waldo United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or Waldo Senior Center, in care of Pohlman-Heise Mortuary, 610 N. Maple, Russell.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

SYLVAN GROVE — Randy Sigle, 56, Sylvan Grove, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006.

Rachael A. Wallace
LINN — Rachael A. Wallace, 51, Linn, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006.

Ms. Wallace was born March 22, 1954, in Denver. She worked in a care home for many years.

Survivors include a son, Travis Klein of Warrensburg, Mo.; a daughter, Victoria Fleener of Abilene, Texas; two brothers, Lloyd Wallace Jr. and David Wallace, both of Clay Center; a stepfather, Charles Cameron of Clay Center.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.

Memorials may be made to ALS-KU Endowment Association for Research, in care of Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, 918 Seventh, Clay Center 67432.

There will be no visitation.

Gerald B. Webb
Gerald B. Webb, 88, Salina, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006.

Mr. Webb was born March 28, 1917, in Beverly, the son of Bert and Olive (Buttermore) Webb. He was a farmer and rancher for 60 years in the Solomon area.

He married Helen F. Berkley on March 28, 1937, in Beloit.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kenneth; and a sister, Opal Doyle.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; two daughters, Shirley Dudley of Topeka and Connie Watson of Salina; five sons, Gary and Dennis, both of Salina, Robert of Abilene, Stanley of Minneapolis and Danny of Smolan; three sisters, Madonna McCall of Bennington, Lois Biggs of Barnard and Wilma McGeary of Salina; 21 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carlson-Ford-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio, Salina 67401. Burial will be in Lincoln City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 837 S. Hillside, Wichita 67211.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Roy Edward Antholz
OAKLAND, Calif.— Roy Edward Antholz, 74, Oakland, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006.

Mr. Antholz was born Nov. 15, 1931, at McDonald, Kan. He worked in general labor.

Survivors include a brother, Albert of McDonald; and two sisters, Beverly Higgins of Bird City, Kan., and Hester Burr of Aurora, Colo.

A memorial service and inurnment will be at a later date in Bird City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Roy Antholz Memorial Fund.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

Julia L. Brubaker
JUNCTION CITY — Julia L. Brubaker, 80, Junction City, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006.

Mrs. Brubaker was born Julia L. Elliott on Oct. 21, 1925, in Glade. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Theren L., died in 1990.

Survivors include a son, Gary of Aberdeen, S.D.; two daughters, Patricia Tholstrup of Junction City and Phyllis Tobler of Lebo; four brothers, Glen Elliott of Salina, Cecil Elliott of Pomona, Ory Elliott of Agra and Ronald Elliott of Shawnee; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Homecare and Hospice, 323 Poyntz, Manhattan 66502.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline, Junction City 66441.

Fleta C. Collicott
WICHITA — Fleta C. Collicott, 90, Wichita, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006.

Mrs. Collicott was born Jan. 26, 1916, in Gaylord. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stacey; and a grandson.

Survivors include two sons, Larry and wife Vivian and Olin and wife Dianne, all of Salina; a daughter, Janice Beehler and husband Robert of Wichita; five brothers; three sisters; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at West Side Church of the Nazarene, Wichita. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Great Bend Cemetery.

Broadway Mortuary, 1147 S. Broadway, Wichita 67211, is handling arrangements.

Blanche Dettmer
KENSINGTON — Blanche Dettmer, 91, Kensington, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006.

Mrs. Dettmer was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, in 1995; a granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Smith of Lincoln, Neb., and Barbara Reilly of Smith Center; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, Kensington. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Services of Smith Center, the church or American Heart Association, in care of Simmons-Olliff-Boeve Chapel, 116 W. First, Smith Center 66967.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the chapel and 10 a.m. to service time Friday at the church.
