David L. Stacey

David L. Stacey, age 76 of Manhattan, died Monday, December 11, 2006 at the St. Joseph Village.

He was born on April 9, 1930 in Boston, GA, the son of Eddie and Cleo (Washington) Stacey.

On February 16, 1959 in Germany, he was united in marriage to Maria L. Stumpf. She survives of the home.

David served his county in Vietnam and retired as a SFC E-7 in the U.S. Army. After retiring from the military he worked in irrigation for Hoffman Tree Farm.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Cornelius Stacey and his wife Darlene of Manhattan, KS, Ralph Stacey of Manhattan, KS, Priscilla Signor and her husband John of Junction City, KS, Dorothy Wright and her husband Jay of New Hampton, VA and Andrew Scruggs of Philadelphia, PA; one sister, Sara; three grandchildren, three step grandchildren, one great-grandchild and three step great-granddaughters; many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Meadow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2006 at the Fort Riley Cemetery with military honors. Family and friends are to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. to form a procession to the cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.

Charles F. Talkington

Charles F. Talkington, age 66 of Manhattan, formerly of Wichita, KS, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at his residence.

He was born on October 12, 1940 in Dover, AR, the son of Charles and Bennie (Bewley) Talkington.

On June 15, 1991 in Manhattan, KS, he was united in marriage to Sutin Boonlee. She survives of the home.

Charles was a sales manager for Dick Edwards Hyundai and was a member of Westside Freewill Baptist Church in Wichita, KS.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Christina Romero of Wichita, KS and Mario Talkington of Flower Mound, TX; three brothers, Coy Talkington of Manhattan, KS, Tommy Talkington of Wichita, KS and Roy Talkington of Wichita, KS and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Anna Craig.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Steve Ratliff officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery.

The casket will be open all day Friday for family and friends at the funeral home.

Megan Lynn Barnett

Megan Lynn Barnett, age 25, of Kansas City, Kansas, formerly of Manhattan, Kansas, died Friday evening, December 15, 2006 near Columbia, Missouri.

She was born on May 11, 1981, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Mark I. and Marcia Lynn (Breithaupt) Barnett.

Megan moved to Manhattan at a young age where she attended public schools, graduating from Manhattan High School in 1999. While in high school she was a member of the Rowing Team. She continued her education at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Spanish and Pre-Physical Therapy. While at K.U. she played on the Women’s Lacrosse Team. Megan was currently a graduate student at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri where she was in the Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy. She was a hard worker in school and graduated magna cum laude from Kansas University.

Her memberships included the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.

Megan was preceded in death by her mother, Marcia Lynn Barnett in 1989, by her maternal and paternal grandparents and by an uncle, Charles Breithaupt.

She is survived by her father: Mark I. Brown-Barnett and her step-mother: The Rev. Dr. Patty Brown-Barnett of Manhattan. Also surviving is one brother: Dr. Chad Barnett and his wife Dr. Chris Barnett of Houston, Texas, a step-sister: Jenny Brecht and a step-brother: Paul Brecht, both of Manhattan. Step-grandparents: The Rev. Dr. Lloyd and Marilyn Brown of Silver Spring, MD, three aunts: Carol Barnett of Fresno, CA, Janet Breithaupt of Overland Park, KS, Donna Brown MacFarland of Silver Spring, MD and an uncle, Donald Breithaupt of Aurora, CO. She is also survived by her boyfriend, Greg Rosen, of Kansas City, MO.

Megan was a loving daughter, sister and granddaughter. She valued her circle of friends and will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan with Reverend Jim Reed officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established for the First United Methodist Church and for Trinity Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.

Eda T. Ringler

Eda T. Ringler, age 81 of Manhattan, died Saturday, December 16, 2006 at her residence.

She was born on November 26, 1925 in Nebraska City, NE, the daughter of John Martin and Elizabeth (Brandt) Tyson.

On August 15, 1948 in Lincoln, NE, she was united in marriage to Wilber E. Ringler. He survives of the home.

Eda was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, Stardusters Extension Group, Bridge Club and KSU Social Club. She loved her grandchildren and Wilber and she enjoyed traveling. From the time her grandchildren were young, Wilber and her enjoyed accompanying them on many trips, especially to Branson and Florida.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Susan Meyer and her husband Allen of Cadillac, MI, a sister, Dorothy French of Wayne, NE and three grandchildren, Matthew Meyer and his wife Casie, Jamie Meyer and Lori Meyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Irene Dierking and Ruth Pollard and one brother, Louis Tyson.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Jones officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Seward Cemetery in Seward, NE.

A memorial has been established for St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.

Margaret Irene Goodenow

Margaret Irene Goodenow, age 79, former longtime Manhattan resident, died Monday, December 18, 2006, at the Westy Community Care Center in Westmoreland, Kansas.

She was born on February 17, 1927, in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Esler E. and Irene M. (Garten) Nickels. She had been a Manhattan resident since January of 1967.

Mrs. Goodenow was raised in Salina and was a 1944 graduate of Salina High School. She then attended Wesleyan University where she was in the Beta Sigma Chi Sorority. She earned her Bachelors degree in Art and Home Economics in 1948.

Mrs. Goodenow was a homemaker. She also taught school in Enterprise, Salina and later in Manhattan. She substitute taught for many years in Manhattan from kindergarten through senior high school classes. She was an artist and especially loved teaching art classes. Mrs. Goodenow was also a Mary Kay beauty consultant for 10 years.

Her memberships included the First United Methodist Church. She was very active in her church membership and is a past president of the United Methodist Women. She also was a member of the La Sertoma Club and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She loved to travel and spend time with family and friends.

On November 20, 1949, in Salina, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Philip E. Goodenow. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Arlene Goodenow.

She is survived by two sons: Mark Allan Goodenow and his wife Janet of Westmoreland, Kansas and Gene Eric Goodenow and his wife Stacy Koron of Overland Park, Kansas. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Luke Everett Goodenow, Heather Marie Goodenow and Dylan Esler Goodenow.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2007, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Jim Reed and Rev. Moon-Hee Chung officiating. Graveside inurnment services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Roselawn Cemetery in Salina, Kansas.

A memorial has been established for the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.

Cecilia “Sue” DeDonder Noonan

Cecilia “Sue” DeDonder Noonan, age 83, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Thursday morning, December 21, 2006, at the St. Joseph Village in Manhattan.

She was born on November 20, 1923, in St. Mary’s, Kansas, the youngest of 6 children born to Francis Philip and Anna Marie (Germanprez) DeDonder.

Sue graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art from St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas in May of 1947 and two days later married John P. Noonan, Sr. They settled in Manhattan where John taught at Kansas State University and Sue raised their 4 children. As a member of Seven Dolors Catholic parish she sang in the choir, volunteered at the school library and in her spare time used her secretarial skills in K-States economics department and typed dissertations for Kansas State graduate students.

After John’s retirement in 1988, John and Sue traveled to Europe, spent winters in Palm Springs, CA, and welcomed their growing family home for the holidays. Over the years her family and Bridge partners were the people closest to her ,and most recently the residents and staff at St. Joseph’s Village became her extended family. To all who loved her she was a source of inspiration and wisdom. Sue was an avid reader, a loving mother and mentor, and challenged people to do their best.

She is survived by one son: John Noonan, Jr. and his wife Cecille (Olewnik) of Derby, Kansas, and by daughters: Catherine Blaser and her husband Kent of Wayne, Nebraska, Maureen Olewnik and her husband Jan of Manhattan, and Rebecca Green and her husband Stuart of Edwards, Colorado. Twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and sisters: Anita Ingenthron and her husband Ed of Overland Park, Kansas and Margaret Kelley and her husband Paul of Manhattan.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, her brother Philip DeDonder and her sisters: Agnes Huntsman and Lillian Tollefson.

Memorial Service Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Father Loren Werth as celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in St. Mary's, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manhattan Public Library Foundation. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.

Dorothy Griffin Groesbeck

Dorothy Griffin Groesbeck, 90, of Manhattan, died Monday December 25, 2006, at The Woodlands, Texas.

She was born July 29, 1916 at Marysville, KS, the daughter of Walter T. and Nelle Williams Griffin. In 1932 they moved to Topeka, KS where Walter Griffin was Kansas assistant Attorney General.

She was a graduate of Topeka High School and attended Washburn University until her marriage to Arthur J. Groesbeck, Jr. on February 13, 1937, in First Presbyterian Church, Topeka.

Her husband, Arthur J. Groesbeck, Jr., preceded her in death on October 8, 1989.

She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Alan Coghlan of Woodland Hills, CA and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary Inez and Jack Geoffroy, of Seattle, WA. Also surviving are her children: Arthur J. Groesbeck III, Pattaya, Thailand; Douglas Griffin Groesbeck and Carlene Slater, Stillwater, OK; Alan Walter and Kathryn Groesbeck, Topeka, KS; and Deborah Groesbeck & Robert W. Conklin, The Woodlands, TX. Surviving grandchildren are Eli J. Groesbeck, Overland Park, KS; Darcy K. Groesbeck, Baltimore, MD; Raleigh J. Groesbeck, Topeka, KS; Alison Groesbeck Conklin, The Woodlands, TX and Kurt G. Groesbeck, Monroe, NC as well as one great-grandson, Gavin Michael Groesbeck.

Mrs. Groesbeck was a homemaker. Memberships have included Chapter FK.P.E.O., Konza Rotary Club, Manhattan Library Foundation Board, Manhattan Library Association, Mercy Community Health Foundation Board, First United Methodist Church, Manhattan Country Club, Riley County Historical Society, Friends of Sunset Zoo, Manhattan Arts Council, Producers Club of KTWU, and Riley County Senior Service Center Board.

Honors received were Phi Delta Kappa Appreciation Award, honorary member Delta Kappa Gamma, “Who’s Who of American Women”, “Who’s Who in America”, “Who’s Who in the Midwest”, and Life Member of PTA.

Mrs. Groesbeck served on the Manhattan Board of Education for eight years and then was elected to the first elected Kansas Board of Education in 1968 and served for twelve years. Other volunteer activities were Riley County Republican precinct committeewoman, Riley County Republican vice-chairman, member Kansas Republican State Committee, Brownie leader, Cub Scout leader, CASA, president of Eugene Field PTA, Junior High PTA and High School PTA, Wharton Manor, March of Dimes chairman, United Fund Women’s Chairman, Mercy Regional Health Center volunteer.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday January 2, 2007 at 10:30 AM at United Methodist Church in Manhattan with Reverends Jim Reed and Moon-Hee Chung officiating. Inurnment in Mt. Hope Chapel Garden Mausoleum, Topeka, KS will be at a later date.

Memorial may be made to Manhattan Public Library or Meadowlark Hills and left in care of Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS. 66502.

Jeret Lee Tadtman

Jeret Lee Tadtman, infant son of Justin Lee and Katie Joy Tadtman and twin brother of Colten Michael Tadtman, died Saturday, December 23, 2006 at the Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.

He was born on December 22, 2006 in Topeka.

In addition to his parents and twin brother, he is also survived by grandparents, Mike and Donna Blaske of Manhattan, KS, Karen Tadtman of Manhattan, KS and Jim and Marty Tadtman of Wichita, KS; great-grandparents, Don and Caryl Jones of Manhattan, KS, Elmer and Eva Blaske of Marysville, KS and Richard and Monica Heidrick of Beloit, KS; three uncles, Brett Blaske of Manhattan, KS, Daniel Crouch of Manhattan, KS and Gregory Tadtman of Topeka, KS and three aunts, Whitney Blaske and her son Bricen of Manhattan, KS, Sara Crouch of Manhattan, KS and Lauren Krause of Wichita, KS.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Fr. Don Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the service time on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Stormont Vail Healthcare Foundation for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.

Ronald L. Pickett

Ronald L. Pickett, age 62, of Manhattan, died December 26, 2006, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.

He was born January 4, 1944, in Manhattan, the son of Raymond and Mildred (Loberg) Pickett.

Ronald was a self employed painter and had worked for St. Thomas More Catholic Church as a custodian for 4 years and for several years at the Eagles Lodge # 2468 as a bartender and custodian. He had served for six years in the Army National Guard.

He enjoyed fishing, watching golf and poker on TV, playing bingo and baking pies for family and friends.

Ronald was married to the former Marian Anita Bradford on November 2, 1971, in Manhattan. Mrs. Pickett survives of the home. Additional survivors include three sons: Charlie Bradford of Lawrence, Ronald and Raymond Bradford of Manhattan; his niece that they raised, Rosanna Bradford of Topeka; three granddaughters: Ashley, Rayanna and Lolita Bradford; two brothers: Robert Pickett of Missouri, and Larry Pickett of Manhattan; and one sister: Diane Cline of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by two sons: Ricky and Steven Bradford; and one sister, Judith Pearrow.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home with James Wehl officiating. Cremation will follow the services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.

Joe M. Collins

Joe M. Collins, age 77, lifetime resident of the Manhattan and Junction City area, died Monday, December 25, 2006 at his residence.

He was born on June 27, 1929 in Great Bend, KS, the son of Kenneth B. and Ann W. (Welsh) Collins. He was raised by his step-father and mother, Lambert and Ann Janasik.

On November 25, 1953 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden, KS, he was united in marriage to Mildred Stehr. She survives of the home.

Joe worked for Farley’s Pawn Shop in Ogden, KS, owned and operated Money Town, Inc. Pawn Shop in Junction City, KS and later moved houses for Valley Movers in Wamego, KS.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Joe Collins II and his wife Terry of Manhattan, KS, Pat Collins and his wife Carol of Manhattan, KS, Cathy Blewster and her husband Mike of Farmersville, CA and Mike Collins and his wife Renee of Coos Bay, OR; one sister, Margie Young of Lawrence, KS; eight grandchildren, Christie Fryer, Joey Collins III, Connie Young, Michelle Blewster, Mike Collins II, Amanda Russi, J.T. Booth and Jessica Booth and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2006 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with The Most Reverend George K. Fitzsimons, Bishop Ameritus officiating. A visitation will follow the rosary until 8:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established for the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.

Ruth Lucille Conrow

Ruth Lucille Conrow, age 94, of Manhattan, died December 31, 2006, at St. Joseph Village.

She was born October 6, 1912, on Hunter’s Island, south of Manhattan, the daughter of John Leslie and Harriet Louise (Pauley) Hunter, and had been a lifetime resident of Hunter’s Island.

Mrs. Conrow graduated from Manhattan High School.

On July 25, 1933, in Coldwater, Kansas, she was married to Ned Dennis Conrow.

She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. She was a member of the Community Improvement Club, and served for many years on the Election Board. Ruth was very devoted to her family and loved playing cards with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ned on July 20, 1999. She was also preceded in death by two son-in-laws: L.W. Coffman and Warren Howland; and by two brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include three children: Lena Coffman of Minneapolis, KS, Janet Howland of Manhattan, and Jack Conrow and his wife Gladys of Manhattan; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home with Reverend Ben Duerfeldt officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Cemetery.

Friends may call anytime prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Homecare & Hospice, Inc. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.
