SALINA - Laurel Sue Hanson, 53, of Salina, died July 20, 2008.
A lifetime resident of the Salina area, she was a secretary for Dr. Jerry R. Lundgrin, D.D.S., at Salina.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Christle Mills.
Survivors include her parents, James and JoAnn Temple of Almo, Texas; former husband, Jim Hanson of Assaria; a son, Matt Hanson of Assaria; daughter, Jesse Jore of Salina; brothers, Mark Temple of Sealy, Texas; sister, Robin Hendrickson of Riverside, Calif.; brother-in-law, Huel Mills of Salina; and a grandson, William Jore of Salina.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina.
There will be no visitation.

Helen L. Walker
McPherson, Kan. - Helen L. Walker, 88, died at The Cedars Health Care Center on July 23, 2008.
She was a homemaker and worked as a cook until she started her own cafe, Robinson Corner Cafe, in South Haven and later owned one in Arkansas City as well.
Survivors include: daughter, Betty L. Loges, McPherson; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at McPherson Cemetery at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26. At the family’s request, there will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to The Cedars Health Care Center or the Parkinsons and Related Disorders Association in care of Glidden-Edgier Funeral Home.
Col. Wayne Earl Thurman
McPherson, Kan. - Col. Wayne Earl Thurman, 97, died on July 25, 2008, at the Cedars Health Care Center in McPherson.
Thurman was a retired Col. of the United States Air Force. He was a command pilot for 22 of his 30 years of flying. He was assigned to the War Department General Staff European Theater in the Pentagon.
He was then assigned to command the aircraft maintenance training at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois for two years.
He returned to the Pentagon as secretary of the Air Staff Headquarter United States Air Force. He retired on April 1, 1968.
Thurman served in WWII and earned the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross, The Legion of Merit, the Air Medal with nine-oak-leaf clusters, the Presidential Unit Citation, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the American Theater Medal.
Survivors include one sister-in-law and various nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver, Colo.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2008, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with the family present from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Glidden Ediger Chapel, McPherson.

Dale B. Nelson
HESSTON – Dale B. Nelson, 81, of Hesston, formerly of McPherson, died Monday, July 14, 2008.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Through the years, he was a high school music teacher and band director for Scotland High School in Scotland, S.D., and was a retail music salesman in Liberal, where he also conducted band seminars. After earning his multi-engine pilots license, he sold airplanes for two years, prior to going into the mobile home manufacturing field. He also worked for Kit Manufacturing as a sales manager, owned and operated 3-D Distributing Inc., was an agent for Morgan Drive-A-Way, manager for Coastal Mart and was a salesman for Kansas Kampers of McPherson until his retirement. In retirement, he worked part-time at Rinse and Roll in McPherson.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Nelson of Hesston; his sons, Douglas Nelson of Austin, Texas, Scott Nelson of Kansas City, Mo., and Jeffery Dale Nelson of Hesston; his daughters, Vici Myers of Towanda, Shelby Marchel of Wichita, Darci Phillips of Hesston and Jennifer Nelson of Manhattan; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Vinnie Nelson; his daughter, Debra L’Ann Swartz; his brother, Harry Nelson; and his sisters, Sanna Nelson and Lucille Peace.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, with the family present to receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in McPherson. Interment will be at McPherson Cemetery, complete with military honors presented by the American Legion Post 24 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the church or Robert J. Dole Veterans Hospital, Wichita, both in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, McPherson.

Marquette, Kan. - Lawrence W. Hulse, 85, died Feb. 7, 2009.
He was a farmer.
Survivors include; daughter, Janet Rock of Marquette; step-daughter, Ardith Jones of Wichita; son, Mike Hulse of Marquette; brother Robert Hulse of Ellsworth; sister, June Newman of Due West, S.C.; four grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 23 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and two step great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Marquette Methodist Church, Marquette. Burial will be in the Marquette City Cemetery, Marquette.
Memorials may be given to the Marquette Methodist Church, Riverview Estates, or the Marquette Education Fund.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Marquette Methodist Church.
Linda Raab Sharp
Wichita, Kan. - Linda Raab Sharp, 53, formerly of Topeka, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2009, in her home in Wichita.
Linda was a Team Leader at Precision Patterns in Wichita.
Survivors include: her mother, Evelyn Raab of Topeka; brother, Kurt Raab and his wife Traci of Topeka; sister, Deanna Sents and her husband Allen of McPherson, and Joleen Raab of Wichita; her aunts and uncles which include Bob and Donna Cogswell of Topeka and her nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.

McPherson, Kan. - Dale Renberger, 83, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. Funeral arrangements are pending with Stockham Family Funeral Home.
Michael E. “Mike” Davidson
McPherson, Kan. -BornSept. 7, 1953, in McPherson, passed away peacefully from complications of cancer Jan. 30, 2009.
Mike was an avid car enthusiast. His other hobbies included camping, fishing, pool, the rodeo and spending time with friends and family.
Survived by: mother, Kay Goodsheller of McPherson; sister Becky Beagel of McPherson; brother David Davidson of Salina; children Bruce Davidson of Spokane, Wash., and Nichole Davidson of Spokane, Wash.; and grandchild Eon Davidson also of Spokane, Wash.
Preceded by: brother, Roger Davidson; son, Shawn Michael Davidson; companion and friend Jaki Grimes.
He will always be in our thoughts and forever in our hearts. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of his Hospice angels.
As per Michael’s wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest with his brother, Roger, in McPherson. There will be no local services.

Lincolnville, Kan. - LINCOLNVILLE - Alton W. Matz, 81, died April 13, 2009, at his home.
He was a farmer and cattleman.
Survivors include: his wife Evelyn of the home; sons: Steve (Janet) and Brad (Sharon) of Lincolnville; daughters: Barbara (Hal) Hoskinson of Topeka; and Sheryl (John) Lance of Walton; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sisters: Margaret (Marlon) Steinert of Raytown, Mo.; Jean (James) McCallister of Des Moines, Iowa; Phyllis (Marion) Schafer of Canon City, Colo.; and brother-in-law Roland Plenert of McPherson. A family committal service will be held at Grant Township Cemetery. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 16, at 1:30 p.m. at Valley United Methodist Church in Marion, with the Rev. Phil Smith officiating. Visitation with family will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion. Memorial funds have been established for Lincolnville United Methodist Church, of which he was a member, or the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
Ted Dielman
Green Valley, Ariz. - GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. – Ted Dielman, Ph.D. died peacefully, surrounded by his family at his home in Green Valley, Arizona, on June 29, 2008. Teddy Emerson Dielman was born Aug. 15, 1939, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Frederick Charles and Hazel Farrell Dielman. He grew up in Canton, Kan., and attended the University of Kansas before serving in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany.
During a weekend leave, he met Alice Jordan of Gowrie, Iowa, in Paris, and they were married on June 6, 1961, in Frankfurt an Main, Germany. Their son, Steven, was born in Frankfurt in 1962, just prior to their return to Lawrence where Ted completed his B.A. degree in Psychology at KU in 1964.
Ted earned his master’s degree in 1966 and his Ph.D. in Psychology in 1970 from the University of Hawaii. His first post-doctoral appointment was with Dr. R.B. Cattell at the Laboratory of Personality and Group Analysis, University of Illinois, Champaign, where he ultimately became assistant director of the lab.
In 1972, he joined the Survey Research Center, Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. In 1976, he became an associate research scientist at the Health Services Research Center at the University, and in 1978, he joined the Office of Educational Resources and Research in the Department of Postgraduate Medicine and Health Professions Education in the School of Medicine, eventually becoming professor and assistant director. He was also professor of Health Behavior and Health Education in the School of Public Health.
In 1993, his health called for early retirement. In 2004, he was named Professor Emeritus of Health Behavior and Health Education and Professor Emeritus of Medical Education at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Dielman was recognized internationally for his significant contributions to multivariate analysis of health behavior research, particularly adolescent health behaviors. He was the principal or co-principal investigator on numerous, large-scale research projects, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, and National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. He was also a frequent member of the expert review panels for these agencies. Ted’s publication and presentation lists are very extensive, and he served on numerous dissertation committees for PhD students.
Alice died on Nov. 5, 1973, in Ann Arbor. On July 2, 1983, Ted married Debra Golden in McPherson, Kan. Their son, Christopher, was born in 1986, in Chile and joined the family in Manchester, Mich. They moved to Green Valley, Ariz., in 1995
Survivors include his wife, Debra; his son, Steven with his wife Sheila and their son, Maxwell, of Falls Church, Va.; his son, Christopher, a student at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz.; his mother, Mrs. Hazel Critchlow, Canton, Kan.; one brother, Dr. Terry Dielman and his wife Karen, Colleyville, Texas; one step-brother, Joe Critchlow and his wife Carol, Clearwater, Kan.; his parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Golden, Green Valley; and his brother-in-law, James Golden, Green Valley, along with one uncle, four aunts, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion, Mickey.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 7 at Olson’s Mortuary in Canton, Kan. Funeral services will be held at the Canton Christian Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8.
A private family committal service for cremated remains will precede the service in Canton Township Cemetery, where he will join many members of his family and forever be at peace with a view of the prairie, dotted with old oil derricks and sunflowers.
Celebrations of his life will be held at dates to be announced in Arizona and in Ann Arbor.

Raymond ‘Pete’ Elmquist
LINDSBORG -- Raymond “Pete” Elmquist, 90, of Lindsborg died Monday, July 14, 2008.
He retired from Mid-Kansas Coop as station manager.
He is survived by a step-son, Kent Ebling of Lindsborg; two step-daughters, Mary Jane Peterson of Lindsborg and Janet Johnson of McPherson; six step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther A. Elmquist, and his parents, Ephraim and Hilma Elmquist.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg, where family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Lindsborg. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.

Edna E. Isaac
INMAN – Edna E. Isaac, 82, of Inman, died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at Hospice House in Hutchinson.
She was a homemaker and longtime volunteer at the Inman Senior Center.
She is survived by her sons, Glen A. Isaac of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Leslie D. Isaac of Bruneau, Idaho, and Delton V. Isaac of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; her daughter, Kathy Penner of Inman; her brothers, Abe Nikkel of Inman and Jona Nikkel of Sarasota, Fla.; her sisters, Margaret Friesen of Inman, her twin sister, Elda Friesen of Barron, Wis., and Darlene Geisbrecht of Stapleton, Ga.; 21 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Kathryn Nikkel; her husband, Alfred P. Isaac; her son, Gary Isaac; her brother, Irvin Isaac; her sister, Lena Becker; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Zion Church of God in Christ Mennonite in rural Inman.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the Zion Church Cemetery.

Aleta M. Newman
LAMAR, Colo. – Aleta M. Newman, 72, of Lamar, Colo., died Friday, July 4, 2008.
She was the former treasurer for the city of Lamar.
She is survived by her children, Mike Green of Loveland, Colo., Tammy Foster of Grand Junction, Lorra Martens of Inman, Sheryl Newman of Lamar and Shawnna Newman of Lamar; her brother, Larry Osborn of Louisville, Texas; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Myrl Osborn, and her husband, Jerry J. Newman.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Lamar.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel, with visitation prior to the service. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Crestwood Memorial Cemetery in McPherson.

Georgana O. Crabb
McPherson, Kan. - Georgana O. Crabb, 90, of McPherson, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at the Cedars House in McPherson.
She was born in McPherson on October 1, 1917, to Chester E. and Anna Mae (Conn) Oelrich.
She lived in McPherson all of her life. She attended the McPheson grade schools and graduated from McPherson High School. She attended Kansas University in Lawrence.
Georgana was a homemaker and bookeeper for Dr. Weir Peirson.
She was a member of: American Legion, Post 24 Ladies Auxiliary; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2715 Ladies Auxiliary; the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the McPherson Opera House Preservation company and a former member of the Arts Council Board.
She attended the First Congregational United Church of Christ in McPherson.
Georgana was united in marriage to Delbert E. Crabb on January 28, 1937, at Topeka.
She is preceeded in death by: her husband; her son, Gary; her sister Jacquelynn Engel; and her parents.
Survivors include: a nephew, Dennison Raymond, and wife Virginia “Ginny” Lou of Waterford, Maine; great-nephews, Tyler Raymond, and wife Morgan, of Freeland, Wash.; Will Raymond, and wife Brea, of Dallas, Texas; a great-niece, Virginia “Ginia” Brannan, and husband Matthew Brannan of Ayer, Mass.; friends Nancy and Richard Luthi of McPherson; special friend, Norman Nelson, of McPherson; and her loyal companion, Ivy.
A graveside inurnment service will be held in mid-September and will be announced closer to date. It will be held at the McPherson Cemetery.

Delilah Nightingale
Galva, Kan. - Delilah Nightingale, 85, died at Moundridge Mercy Hospital on July 22, 2008.
She was a lifetime area resident, a homemaker and a member of the Lone Tree Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Galva.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Nightingale.
She is survived by three sons; Arley, Canton, Delmar and Russell, both of Galva; three daughters, Corrine Unruh, Verna Base and Donna Nightingale, all of Galva; three brothers, Franklin Koehn and Floyd Koehn, both of Galva, and Walter Koehn, Okolona, Miss.; two sisters, Dessie Johnson, Moundridge, and Deloris Koehn, Monterey, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lone Tree Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Galva.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Hospital, in care of the funeral home.

McPherson, Kan. - Mackenzie N. Young, 6 months, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include: parents, Tamara and Jacob Young of McPherson; maternal grandparents Toni and Bill Taylor of Wichita; paternal grandparents William and Ellen Young of South Butler, N.Y.; maternal great-grandparents Jack and Davie Walker of Bangs, Texas; maternal great-grandparents Carolyn Taylor of Camarillo, Calif., and William and Pat Taylor Sr. of Vilencea, Calif.; maternal great-grandmother Stella Walker, Bang, Texas; maternal great-great-grandparents Virginia Taylor of Vilencea, Calif.; and David McMillen of Early, Texas; four uncles, Nathan Taylor of Wichita, Wes Young of Montello, Wisc., Wayne Young of South Butler, N.Y., and George Young of Savanna, Ga.; and four aunts, Chauntae Taylor of Wichita, Sue Young of Philadelphia, Penn., Kimberly Taylor of Wichita, and Tracey Jones of Anna, Texas.

Laurine J. (Clark) Soderstrom
MT. PROSPECT, Ill. - Laurine J. (Clark) Soderstrom, 83, formerly of McPherson, died Feb. 3, 2009, at The Moorings Health Center in Arlington Heights, Ill.
She was a retired bank teller.
Survivors include: her husband, Raymond C. Soderstrom; son Alan and wife, Jamie, Soderstrom, and Brian and wife, Linda, Soderstrom; daughter JoAnn and husband, John, Lightfoot; brothers Charles and Stanley; sisters Fern and Anna Mae; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Friedrich’s Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., at Northwest Hwy, Mt. Prospect, IL.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Northwest Covenant Church, 300 N. Elmhurst Av., Mt. Prospect, IL, 60056. Interment will be private and will be held at Ridgewood Cemetery.

McPherson, Kan. - Tina M. Pauls Epp, 91, passed away July 11, 2008. She is survived by one son, Robert, and wife, Ann, Inman; one daughter, LaJane Anderson, and husband, Frank, Galva; nine grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben N. Epp; two brothers, Irvin A. and Arthur; and three sisters, Anna Pauls, Elizabeth Pauls and Lena Veendorp. Frieda Lou Miller
McPherson, Kan. - Frieda Lou Miller, 83, beloved widow, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 17, 2008, in Prosper, Texas following a brief illness. She was born on June 18, 1925, in Great Bend. She married J.W. “Bill” Miller in 1954, who preceded her in death in 1983. She was devoted to her family and is survived by four sons, Rod, wife Cathy of Gilroy, Calif.; Matt, wife Sharon of Plano, Texas; Chris, wife Laurie of Richardson, Texas, and Meigs, wife Tori of Prosper, Texas; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret Wilkens of Ellsworth and Marion Brown of Baker City, Ore.; sisters-in-law Jean Hill of Arkansas City, and Betty Miller-Tutt of Tulsa, Okla.
