ROY A. DORMAN
Roy A. Dorman, 87, of Grand Island, Nebraska died November 26, 2002 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. He was born August 23, 1915 at Culver, the son of Jacob and Martha Schmidt Dorman.
Mr. Dorman grew up and received his education in the Culver area. He married Doris I. Hinkle on November 19, 1939 at Garnett. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 161st Field Artillery Battalion and earned a Purple Heart. After the war, they farmed in the Culver area and he also worked for the Ottawa County road department as a maintainer operator. After his retirement, they lived on the farm until moving to rural Dannebrog, Nebraska in 1993. His wife preceded him in death on November 23, 1998. He was a member of the VFW Post 1432 of Salina.
Survivors include a daughter Joyce Everett and her husband Jim of Dannebrog; two grandsons, Craig and Bret Everett; and two great-granddaughters. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
A graveside service was held November 29 at the Bennington Cemetery. Rev. Ethel Knox officiated. Military honors were conducted by VFW Post 1432 of Salina.

MARY LOUISE EATON
Mary Louise, the daughter of George C. and Edna E. Todd McCollough was born August 8, 1926 at Minneapolis. She passed away April 4, 2003 at Alterra Sterling House in Salina at the age of 76 years, seven months, and 27 days.
A graduate of Minneapolis High School, Mary Lou was a business office supervisor for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company at Minneapolis, Salina and later at Topeka. She was united in marriage to Dr. Leslie F. Eaton June 15, 1971 at Abilene. All their married life was spent in the Salina area. He preceded her in death July 16, 1995.
Mary Lou was a member of the Episcopal Church, the Salina Country Club and was a Rural Water District Board member. She was very active in the Minneapolis High School Alumni Association and she and Dr. Eaton established a scholarship for prospective nursing students at Minneapolis High School.
Survivors include two nieces, Tyera Smith of Minneapolis and Elaine Wilson of Macks Creek, Missouri; and a nephew, Garette Ritenour of Merritt Island, Florida. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Nellie Sparkman and Aldine Thurston.
The funeral was April 8 at Shields Funeral Home in Minneapolis with Rev. Keith Akins officiating. Casket bearers were Sid Shultz, Howard Shields, Art Breneman, Norman Kinderknecht, Wilbur Denning, Paul Clark, Quenten Swenson and Dale Augustine. Interment was in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.
The family suggests memorials to the Eaton Nursing Scholarship Fund at Minneapolis High School.
NORLINE E. HANES
Norline E. Heald Hanes, daughter of Vernon and Edith Brown Heald, was born August 2, 1916 on a farm northeast of Wells. She passed away April 4, 2003 at the Rossville Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rossville, at the age of 86 years.
Norline was united in marriage to Wendell "Swede" Hanes on December 9, 1935 in Minneapolis. Most of her life was spent in the Wells area until moving to Bennington in 1981 and to Topeka in 1992. She was a homemaker. She also worked at Copeman's Store in Wells and cleaned and served lunches at the Wells School. She was a member of the Wells Sunset Spiritualist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Pete and wife Paula of Overbrook and Bob and wife Diane of Rossville; a sister, June Robinson, St. Joseph, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jeff and Ashley Hanes, Tiffany Hanes and Kristin Garcia; two step-grandchildren, Trent and Kiri Krause and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985, a sister, Jean Meier, and an infant brother, Clarence Brown.
A graveside service and inurnment were held April 8 at Highland Cemetery in Minneapolis.
BESSIE M. YONALLY
Bessie Maxine Nemnich Yonally, daughter of R.I. "Rod" and Martha Beals Nemnich, was born August 29, 1925 near Miltonvale. She passed away March 14, 2003 at the Ottawa County Health Center in Minneapolis at the age of 77.
Bessie was a lifelong resident of the Miltonvale area, graduating from Miltonvale High School in 1943. She worked as a bookkeeper for her dad at the Chevrolet Garage and was a waitress at Kabin Inn in Miltonvale. In later years, she was a Tupperware home demonstrator. She was united in marriage to Roy Yonally on March 22, 1953 in Miltonvale. She was a homemaker and member of the Miltonvale Christian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for several years.
Survivors include her husband Roy of the home; a son Rodney and wife Rosemary of Miltonvale; and two grandchildren Brian Yonally and Amy Wilson.
The funeral was held March 17 at the Wesleyan Church in Miltonvale.
VALERIE MADDEN
Valerie Madden was born July 29, 1951 at Phoenix, Arizona, the daughter of Billy and Joan Bryant Floyd. She passed away April 5, 2003 at her home at rural Salina. She had attained the age of 51 years, eight months, and 7 days.
Most of her working life was spent as a clerk and bookkeeper in the banking industry, having worked at Home Fed Trust in San Diego, California until moving to Salina in 1995. She currently worked in the Loan Department of Sunflower Bank, Salina. She was united in marriage to Glenn A. Madden, Jr. in 1992 at San Diego. She was a member of the Gold Wing Touring Association and the Starlighters Club.
Survivors include her husband Glenn A. Madden, Jr. of the home; a son Thomas Madden of San Diego; four daughters, Rene Andrus, Bonnie Moore and Sherry Russell, all of San Diego and Joanna Davis of Salina; her mother Joan Floyd of Fresno, California; nine grandchildren, Amber and Nicole Thompson, Jenna and Colton Russell, Kayla, Gregory and Dalton Davis and Thomas and Nicholas Madden and a great-granddaughter.
A graveside service was held April 9 at Highland Cemetery in Minneapolis with Rev. Gene Langhofer officiating. Shields Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
The family suggests memorials to the Hospice of Salina.
ARLENE C. HANNEBAUM
Arlene C. Hannebaum was born August 8, 1914 at Culver, the daughter of Lloyd and Mabel Lucy Langerman Austin. She passed away June 14, 2003 at the Ottawa County Health Center in Minneapolis. She was 88 years, ten months and six days of age.
On October 8, 1932 she was united in marriage to Walter W. Hannebaum at Lyons. All their married life was spent farming in the Tescott area. Her husband preceded her in death March 16, 1991. Arlene was manager of the cosmetics department at Stiefel's Department Store in Salina until her retirement. She later worked as an Avon representative.
Survivors include two sons, Dean Hannebaum of Yukon, Oklahoma and Darrell Hannebaum of Minneapolis; a daughter, Dee Ann Shorter of Culver; two sisters, Betty Bacon of Ada and Evelyn Batcheller of Salina; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by an infant son Larry Leon Hannebaum.
The funeral was June 17 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Tescott with Rod Thompson, PMA, officiating.
Organist was Jane Berkley. Honorary bearers were Don Hannebaum and Gary Schoshke. Casket bearers were Brian Hannebaum, Scott Hannebaum, Jeff Brooks, Keenan Hannebaum, Greg Kurtz and Doug Swanson. Interment was in Franklin Cemetery at Tescott. Shields Funeral Home at Minneapolis handled the arrangements.
The family suggests memorials to St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Tescott or the American Cancer Society.
MARVIN LLOYD METTLEN
Marvin Lloyd Mettlen was born to Frank and Anna (Trefethen) Mettlen in Lincoln County on August 16, 1910. He passed away July 31, 2003, at the Holiday Resort in Salina. Marvin was 92 years of age.
He married Mary Frances Henderson on September 23, 1936. They lived in Russell County and farmed there for three years. They moved to Bennington in 1939. Marvin owned and operated a service station for a short while before going to work for Wessell Truckline and later Scheibler Truckline. He was active in the Bennington Saddle Club for a number of years, and was a member of the Bennington Lions Club since 1956. In 1987, the Lions recognized him for his many years of support to the club and the Bennington Rodeo. He retired from farming in 1986. For the last several winters he and Mary enjoyed going to Texas for a few months.
Survivors include his wife Mary and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Mettlen.
The funeral was August 4 at Shields Funeral Home in Minneapolis with Rev. Barbara Price Patton officiating. Musicians were Sue Quinn and Shari Walls. Casket bearers were Dwayne Walls, Burke Matthews, Larry Tasker, Gary Mettlen, Dale Mettlen and Dee Henderson. Interment was in Bennington Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Bennington Fire Department, Bennington Senior Center, or the United Church of Bennington.
MELODY SUE HELM
Melody Sue Helm, 50, died August 2, 2003. She was born on December 4, 1952 at Salina.
She was a resident of Salina and formerly of Delphos. She was a potter and 3D artist.
Survivors include her husband Steve Wagner of Salina; two sons, Scott Phillips of Salina and Toby Phillips of Glasco; a stepdaughter, Katina Smith; a brother, Wilber Helm, Salina; sisters, Barbara Taylor, Palestine, Arkansas, Linda Repogle, Middleville, Michigan and Darla Helm, Salina; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
The funeral is today, August 7, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral in Salina. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Salina.

Sara Sue Herrington, 63, McPherson, died January 25, 2004 at the Hospice House of Reno in Hutchinson. She was born June 23, 1940 in rural Cloud County, the daughter of the late Walter B. and Edna Marie (Keim) Santner.

Velma Lola Snyder, 85, passed away April 5, 2004 at the Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. She was born February 20, 1919 in Lincoln County, the daughter of Robert H. and Fannie I. Barnhill Breazier.

Hazel M. Robertson, 91, of Minneapolis (formerly of Salina) died on April 8, 2004 at the Minneapolis Good Samaritan Center. She was born December 28, 1912 in Bigelow, the daughter of the Edis Samuel and Lillie Charity (Neumeyer) Slifer.
