Mae Oelke, 86, of Wausau, Wisconsin died Tuesday April 11, 2006. She was born February 16, 1920 in Minneapolis to William and Gertie (Hoffman) Postlethwaite.
Survivors include four children Nyla and husband Ken Lewis of Lakeville, Minnesota, Verlyn and wife Kathy Oelke of Wausau, Merle and wife Elizabeth Oelke of Chanhassen, Minnesota and Nadine Oelke of Hillsborough, North Carolina.
The funeral was April 15 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church. Burial was in Restlawn Memorial Park.
BERNICE YEAGER
Bernice Welter Yeager, 87, died April 13, 2006 at her home in Springfield, Virginia.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Allard of Springfield, Virginia, Kathryn Yeager of Arlington, Virginia, Janice Foss of Manhattan Beach, California.
VINCENT KING
Vincent King was born June 26, 1923 in Barnard, to V.A. and Emily (Wilheit) King. He passed away September 10, 2007 at the Robert J. Dole Veterans' Medical Center in Wichita, at the age of 84 years.
Survivors include his wife Alpha of the home; and his sons, Tom of Minneapolis, Terry of Salina, and Tim of Wichita.
The funeral was September 13 at the First United Methodist Church in Barnard. Interment was in Milo Cemetery, Barnard. Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis, handled the arrangements. Memorials are to the Barnard Lions Club Scholarship Fund.
CATHERINE NYBERG
Catherine Veola Nyberg, 91, of Salina passed away on September 16, 2007. She was born on October 30, 1915 at Tescott, the daughter of Henry and Helen (Christensen) Hannebaum.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Nyberg of Salina; and a daughter, Judy Rosebrook of Salina.
The funeral was September 20 at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Roselawn Cemetery, Salina. Memorials are to Trinity Lutheran Church or Kaye Pogue Hospice of Salina.
KATIE B. BECKER
Katie B. Becker, 88, of Salina died September 25, 2007. She was born Katie Harms on July 19, 1919 at Montezuma.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Becker of Olathe; and two daughters, Dixie Alderson of Delphos and Leanna Goosman of Bennington.
The funeral was September 28 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Salina. Burial was in Gypsum Hill Cemetery. Memorials are to Hospice of Salina or First Southern Baptist Church.
MARGE GRINDSTAFF
Marge Mae Grindstaff, 86, went to be with her Lord on September 30, 2007. She was born April 3, 1921 at Lindsey to Roy and Rose Wolfersperger.
Survivors include two sons, Eldon Britton and Dale Britton and wife Linda, both of Peabody; and a daughter, Karlyne Sherman and husband Dennis of New Strawn.
The funeral is today, October 4, at 10 a.m. at Baker Funeral Home with burial at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody. Memorials are to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or the Peabody Christmas Light fund, in care of the funeral home.
ALBERTA MURPHY
Alberta Margaret Taddiken was born August 15, 1912 in Clay County to John and Margaret (Young) Taddiken. She passed away September 25, 2007 at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis, at the age of 95 years.
Survivors include by her husband William "Bill" Murphy of the home; a son, Robert William and wife Sue of Choctaw, Oklahoma; and two daughters, Barbara Newell and husband Gerald of Minneapolis, and Susan Berry and husband John of Bonner Springs.
The funeral was September 29 at the First Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. Interment was in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials are to the First Presbyterian Church or Ottawa County Health Center.
JAMES SCHARPLAZ
James Domenic "Jim" Scharplaz was born December 7, 1951 at Salina, the son of Domenic "Ben" and Louisa Hotz Scharplaz. He departed this life on September 27, 2007 at the Ottawa County Health Center in Minneapolis at the age of 55 years.
Survivors include his wife Kathryn and sons, Daniel and Thomas, all of the home in rural Minneapolis.
The funeral was October 1 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Interment was in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Shields Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Memorials are to Mennonite Central Committee for Overseas Relief, Kansas Rural Center or Hospice of Ottawa County.
JO ANN CROWDER
Jo Ann Crowder, 46, of Beverly died October 8, 2007 at Topeka. She was born October 21, 1960 at Salina the daughter Joe F. and Alice J. (Clark) Arvizu.
Survivors include: her husband, Kenneth Crowder of the home; two sons, Randy Labrecque of Topeka and Christopher Johnson of Hastings, Nebraska; and a daughter, Jessica Balluch of Beverly.
The funeral was October 10 at Shields Funeral Home in Minneapolis. Burial was in Heiser Cemetery, near Lincoln. Memorials are to the family to assist with funeral expenses in care of Shields.
ALETHA NELSON
Aletha A. Nelson was born January 13, 1920 on a farm near Tescott, the daughter of George H. and Eugenia Ahlquist Nelson. She departed this life on October 3, 2007 in Salina. She was 87 years eight months and 20 days of age.
Survivors include: three sons, John and wife Paula and Jerry and wife Peggy, all of Tescott, and Joe and wife Marcella of Orange, Texas; and two daughters, Barbara and husband Russell Clark of Tescott and Betty and husband David Scatena of Stockton, California.
The funeral was October 6 at Tescott United Methodist Church. Interment was in Franklin Cemetery at Tescott. Memorials are to Tescott United Methodist Church or Hospice of Salina.
ROMA V. PALMER
Roma Virginia Palmer, 85, of Delphos passed away October 5, 2007 at the Minneapolis Good Samaritan Center. She was born December 24, 1921 in Topeka, the daughter of Fred and Maude K. (Plourd) Treadwell.
Survivors include: two daughters, Jeanne Jamison and husband Les and Judy Palmer, all of Delphos; a son John Palmer and wife Becky of Delphos.
A graveside service was held at the Bennington Cemetery on October 10.
DARLENE F. ENGLE
Darlene F. Engle, age 77, Solomon, died September 15, 2007. She was born July 15, 1930, the daughter of Carl and Frances (Engle) Meek.
Survivors include her husband Lyle; a son, Lynn of Westminster, Colo.; three daughters, Sharon Brewer of Dallas, Karla Johnson of Solomon, and Jerri Drummond of Minneapolis.
Services were held September 18 at the United Presbyterian Church in Solomon. Interment was in Roselawn Cemetery, Salina. Memorials are to the Solomon Girl Scouts or Hospice of Salina.
JEAN O'DELL
Jean O'Dell, 88, of McPherson died November 1, 2007. She was born December 23, 1918 at Mitchell, the daughter of Joseph Basil and Jessie Mae (Bain) Rife.
Survivors include two sons, Danny O'Dell and wife Jan and David O'Dell and wife Jaymie, all of McPherson.
The funeral was November 5 at the First United Methodist Church. . Burial was in Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Memorials are to First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
GENEVA BAKER
Geneva M. Baker, 71, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas went to be with her Lord on November 1, 2007. She was born on February 16, 1936 in Wichita, the daughter of Clifford and Florence (Caylor) Cline.
Survivors include her husband, Claude of the home; and two sons, Teddy Baker and wife Wanda and Danny Baker, all of Wichita.
The funeral was Nov. 6 at Broadway Mortuary Chapel in Wichita. Burial was in Bennington Cemetery.
IRMA BREEN
Irma Ella Breen was born November 2, 1918 to Lloyd E. and Ethel I. (Hogan) Sherbondy in Delphos. She passed away on her 89th birthday, November 2, 2007 at the Ottawa County Health Center in Minneapolis.
She is survived by her son, Tim Breen and wife Paulette of Carmel, California..
A mass of Christian burial was held November 6 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Interment was in St. Peter's Cemetery, Rural Cloud County. Memorials are to Ottawa County Health Center Long Term Care Unit.
CLEMA COPPLE
Clema Lorene, the daughter of John and Mary Perry Alderson, was born August 4, 1914 in the Lamar community of Ottawa County. She departed this life on November 1, 2007 at The Nicol Home in Glasco, having reached the age of 93 years, two months and 28 days.
Survivors include her husband Allen of rural Delphos; a son, Marvin Copple and wife Ronalda of Concordia; four daughters: Beverly Thoman and husband Austin, Patsy Appleby and husband Gary, Joan Olson and husband Doug, all of Concordia, and Jody Merry and husband Gerry of Delphos.
The funeral was November 5 at the Hall Wesleyan Church, Delphos. Interment was in Delphos Cemetery. Memorials are to Hall Wesleyan Church or The Nicol Home.
LEDA M. BROWN
Leda Minarini Brown was born on June 3, 1925 in Loiano, Province of Bologna, in the Emilia Romagna region of Northern Italy, the daughter of Luigi and Anna (Ferri) Minarini. She passed away November 19, 2007 at the Ottawa County Health Center in Minneapolis at the age of 82 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Verina Weis and husband Jerry of Blue Rapids, Rosalia McClure and husband Gordon of Tescott; and a son, Louis Brown of Wichita.
A mass of Christian burial was held November 23 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery at Clay Center. Memorials are to the Tescott Lions Club.
