ARMA — James Marvin Jones, 87 of Arma died at 5 p.m. Thursday June
11, 2009 at the Arma Care Center.
He was born July 5, 1921 in Mulberry, KS the son of James Sr. and
Martha (Thomas) Jones.
James married
Anne Martinovich on February 28, 1959 in Las Vegas,
NV; she survives at the home.
He worked for General Motors and Locheed Aircraft both in California;
upon his return for the southeast Kansas area James worked for Helio
Aircraft as a foreman.
James was an avid coon hunter along with being a lifelong musician
playing “Western Swing” guitar.
Survivors include his wife Anne of the home; 2 sons -Brian L. Jones and
wife Jayne of Joplin, MO Jimmy Dale Jones and wife Jennifer of Olympia,
WA; 2 daughters Bobbie Mays and Sis Witt of El Dorado, MO; Sister
Reva Heitman of Arma, KS and 5 Grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by his parents, brothers- Art, Adam, Ralph, Olive, Norman and
Elvis Jones and sisters Emerald Tissue, Gladys Smith, Nova Sweezey
and Opal Rhodes.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday June 15, 2009 at the Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg, KS with Reverend Jeff

WEIR — Leo J. Pomatto, 91 of Weir, died at 7:21 p.m. Sunday June 7,
2009 at Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg.
He was born Aug. 11, 1917, in Weir, the son of Pete and Anna (Martin)
Pomatto. He was a lifetime resident of the Weir area, he attended Weir
schools and was a graduate of Weir High School.
Leo married
Mary Turk on November 16, 1946 in Scammon; she
preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 1999.
Throughout his life, Leo farmed; he and his brother Wilbur owned and
operated the Weir Locker Plant.
Leo was a member of the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon.
Survivors include a daughter, Frances Schremmer, and her husband,
Cletus, of Pittsburg; two sons, Frank Pomatto of Weir and Pete Pomatto
of Columbus; three grandchildren, Tony Schremmer and wife, Johnna,
and their son Anthony of Pittsburg, Joe Schremmer and wife, Chris, and
sons Jeff, Jack and Will of Pittsburg, Mark Schremmer and wife
Jacqueline and their son Kyler of Topeka. Leo was preceded in death by
his parents, wife, 3 brothers John, Wilbur and Fred Pomatto and 2 sisters
Ann O’Malley and Rose Barney.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday June 11, 2009 at the St.
Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon with Father Chrysostom Ah
Maung as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Bridget’s Cemetery. The
parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Weir where the family will receive friends following the
rosary until 8 p.m. Friends may call after noon on Wednesday.

OSWEGO — Betty R. Gifford 85, of Oswego, KS died 7:00pm Monday
May 25, 2009 at her home following a short illness.
Betty was born February 2, 1924 in Wichita, KS the daughter of Kirwin
Lucius and Lois (Reasor) Bowman. She was a graduate of Oswego High
School in 1942. In 1959 she moved to Kansas City and resided there
from 1959-1987. From 1987-1990 she lived in Burlington Vermont. She
then later moved to Oswego, KS to retire in 1990.
On June 30, 1951 she married
Raymond T. Gifford in Oswego, KS; he
preceded her in death on December 10, 2003. Betty was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Oswego Methodist Church. She was a 50 year
member of the Order of the Eastern Star Grand Chapter 288. She
enjoyed bird watching, a Morgan Horse owner and breeder and
Beachcombing.
Survivors include her son Robin T. Gifford and wife Gail Berkowitz Gifford
of Kansas City, MO; niece Becky McHugh and family of Chandler, AZ;
nephew Larry Bowman and family of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren
Katie Gifford of Nashville, TN and Jake Gifford of Kansas City, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Kirwin L.
Bowman and son Jonathan Raymond Gifford.
Celebration of Life will be 5pm Thursday May 28, 2009 at the Gifford
Family Home #8 Woodcliff Drive Oswego, KS 67356. Dinner and Drink
will be served. Burial will take place at a private date in Oswego City
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in

WEIR — George Raymond Pope, 71 of rural Weir, KS died at 7:05 pm
Sunday, May 31, 2009 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was
born February 2, 1938 in Wichita, KS. Raymond worked as a mechanic,
he also worked construction. Survivors include his life partner Mary
Brown of the home; 4 sons Raymond Pope of Weir, Jeffery Pope of
Pittsburg, David Pope of Emporia, KS and Danny Pope of Girard; 3
daughters: Janice Collins of Girard, Kathy Mishmash of Pittsburg and
Donna Merril of Bonner Springs, KS along with several grand and great
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother Janice Pope.
Graveside services will be 10 am, Wednesday June 3, 2009 at the Hosey
HillCemeteryin Weir. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends at

McCUNE — Ellen G. DeBusk, 68 of McCune, KS died at 5:30 p.m.,
Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in
Pittsburg, KS.

ORONOGO, Mo. — Donald Krouse, 66 of Oronogo, MO died at 3:10 p.
m., Tuesday, June 2, 2009 in Joplin, MO following a short battle with
Cancer.
He was born April 14, 1943 in Logan, Kansas the son of Forrest and
Mary (Perry) Krouse.
He was a member of the Christ Church of Oronogo, MO
Donald was a teacher, school counselor and coach at Girard High School
from 1969 – 1987. He was the Middle School assistant Principal at
Paola, KS from 1988 – 2004. He then returned to the area in 2005.
Survivors include a son Brad Krouse and his wife Debbie of Joplin, MO; a
daughter Kim Owen and her husband Jeff of Prospect, KY, Mother Mary
Krouse of Logan, KS; a brother Noel Krouse and his wife Isabelle of
Logan, KS; three grandchildren Briley Krouse, Tanner Owen and Trey
Owen.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Larry Krouse.
Funeral Services will be 10 am Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Ansley officiating. Burial will follow at the

ARMA — Ernest E. “Sonny” Anselmi, 74, of Arma, Kansas passed away
on June 1, 2009 at Freeman West Hospital after a long and courageous
battle.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, June 4, 2009 at
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS. Funeral services will be at 10:
00 am Friday, June 5, 2009 at the funeral home with Rev. Robert
McElwee presiding.
Ernest was born on May 17, 1935 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Edward and
Margaret (Robinson) Anselmi, who preceded him in death. He was a
1954 graduate of Arma High School. He was married
to Ernestine
Chiartano for 53 years. Ernest was the former owner of A&A Service
Station and Crestview Lodge Nursing Home. He was employed as a
salesman at Ray Shepherd Motors and had also worked for the Kansas
City Southern Railroad. Ernest served the town of Arma as a former
Mayor, School Board Member of USD 246, former President of the Arma
Homecoming Association, was an active Arma Council Member, and a
member of the Masons and Shriners. Ernest enjoyed the time he spent
with his family laughing and talking over dinner. He loved to go fishing in
his spare time when he wasn’t watching KU basketball, the KC Chiefs, or
the KC Royals. Ernest was a vital member of the community and of his
family and will be missed by all who loved him.
Ernest is survived by his wife, Ernestine Anselmi of the home; children
Kathy Anselmi of Kansas City, KS, Keith Anselmi of Arma, KS, Penny and
Larry VanBecelaere of Arma, KS, and Kevin Anselmi of Arma, KS;
grandchildren Jason and Amber VanBecelaere of Pittsburg, KS, Eric and
Becky VanBecelaere of Arma, KS, Ryan Anselmi of New York, Justin
Anselmi of New York, Jacob Anselmi of Arma, KS, Liz and Kyle Harryman
of Overland Park, KS, Lyndsay and Patrick Arkeketa of Arma, KS, and
