Hubert E. “Gene” Walker, 77 of Scammon, KS died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday
March 7, 2010 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Columbus.
He was born May 22, 1932 in Columbus, KS the son of Patrick and
Aileen (Mouton) Walker. After his father’s death Gene was raised by his
mother and step-father Harvey “Bud” Bailey.
Gene attended Scammon Elementary School and was a 1946
graduate of Mineral High School.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving his country in the United
States Army from November 1952 until November 1954. He was affiliated
with the 27th regiment/ 25th division “Wolf Hounds”.
Gene married
Barbara Ann Parker on May 24, 1956 in Miami, OK; she
preceded him in death on December 20, 2006.
He was an ironworker working at and constructing several structures
and dams throughout the country some of which include the Oolagah
Dam, Stockton Dam, Ft. Randall Dam in South Dakota and Awahee Dam
also in South Dakota. Gene also worked for BF Goodrich as a mechanic
for nearly 20 years retiring in 1984.
Gene was a member of the Sacred Heath Catholic Church-
Frontenac. He had served on the board at the Family Life Center in
Riverton and sat on the Mt Carmel Home Health Board.
Survivors include 2 sons Mark Walker and wife Darlene of Rogersville,
MO, David Walker of Scammon; a daughter Mary Jo Newcomb and
husband Terry of Scammon; son-in-law Pete Lanning of Pittsburg; a
brother Herb Walker of Scammon and 2 Grandsons Ty Walker and Jesse
Newcomb. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara and a
daughter Sherry Lanning in 2008.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday March 10,
2010 at the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon with Father
Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Hosey Hill Cemetery
where the Ft. Riley Funeral Honors Detail Team will provide full military
honors. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home in Weir where the family will receive friends
following the rosary until 8 p.m. Friends may call t the funeral home after
noon on Tuesday.

Ronald E. Lake 65, of Pittsburg, KS died 8:25pm Friday March 5, 2010
at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center following a long illness.
Ron was born April 29, 19 44 in Pittsburg, KS to Lawrence E. and Doris
Faye ( Wilson ) Lake. He was a lifelong resident of the area and
attended area schools.
On May 15, 1964 he married
Sindy (Shultz) Lake in Pittsburg, KS ; she
survives at the home.
Ron worked for the Railroad for 34 years including Frisco and later
Burlington Northern. He also was a member of the United Transportation
Union. He was of the Christian Faith; loved woodworking, fishing and
gardening in his spare time.
Survivors include his wife, daughters Lisa Keller and husband Tim of
Pittsburg, KS, Aimee Zacarello and husband Cory of Frontenac, KS;
sister Phyllis Black of Pittsburg, KS; grandchildren Aubry, Todd, and
Kaytelynd Keller, Brett and Hadyn Zacarello; a surviving niece Sherri
Black and her children Sarah, Stephani and Shane.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother in-law Jimmy Black,
niece Lori Black and nephew James Kelly Black. Private Graveside
Burial will take place at Highland ParkCemeteryin Pittsburg, KS at a
later date. Family will receive friends from 7-8pm Tuesday March 9,
2010 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS. Friends may
call after 11am on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions

Donald L. Stewart of Girard died on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at his
home, while working in the outdoors he loved.
born January 12, 1936 in Yates Center, he was the oldest son of
Velton and Maxine (Gregg) Stewart. He attended College High School
and Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg.
After serving 2 years in the Navy, he returned to Pittsburg, and with his
wife Carolyn ( Anderson ), raised two sons. They later divorced. He was
a prominent businessman for many years in Girard until his retirement.
He always had a love of farming, which he practiced as a hobby all his life.
Active in community he held positions on the Girard Hospital Board and
the Optimist Club. He later married
Shirley Swart, and together were avid
motorcyclists belonging to the Gold Wing Road Riders Association of
America. They traveled by bike extensively across the nation and
enjoyed life thoroughly.
Survivors include his wife of the home; sons Dr. Steven Stewart
(Susan) of Santa Cruz, CA and Tim Stewart (Lanna) of Girard. Stepsons
are Norman Wolsey (Tami), Jody Wolsey (Pam) and Onis Wolsey (Nancy
); a brother V. A. Stewart, a sister Suzanne Marshall (Tom) both of
Pittsburg. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and
nephews thrive. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday March 7th at 4:30 p.m. at
the Family Life Assembly of God, 1234 N. Rouse in Pittsburg. Memorial
contributions can be made to the building fund of the church. Memorial
may be left at or mailed to the church.

Byrdie C. Ryan, 86 of Mulberry died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday March 3,
2010 at her home in Mulberry.
She was born October 29, 1923 in Booneville, AR the daughter of
Marvin and Francis (Bird) Castleberry. She lived for over 30 years in
Wichita moving to Mulberry in 1970.
Byrdie married
Kenneth Ryan on January 28, 1943 in Russellville, AR ;
he preceded her in death in 1992.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include 2 sons-Buddy Ryan and wife Micky of Mulberry, Kim
Ryan and wife Patty of Mulberry; 3 daughters-Mary Massions and
husband Dennis of Nevada, MO, Millie Darlene Ryan of Mulberry, Sheila
Sprankle and husband Tom of Wichita, KS; 15 Grandchildren and 14
Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and
seven brothers and sisters.
According to her wishes Mrs. Ryan will be taken for cremation.
Graveside memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday March 8, 2010 at the
RosebankCemeteryin Mulberry; friends and family are requested to
meet at the shelter house at the cemetery.

Maryann A. Clark 91, of Chicopee, KS died 3:05pm Sunday February
28, 2010 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
Maryann was born March 10, 19 18 in Chicopee, KS the daughter of
John and Pasqua (Carli) Pesavento. She graduated from Chicopee
Grade School and later attended and graduated Pittsburg High School.
In 1938 she moved to Chicago, IL. She married
Joseph C. Clark on
August 10, 19 46 in Chicago, IL ; he preceded her in death on June 7,
1981. Maryann was a housewife. She was a member of the St. Barbara
Catholic Church in Chicopee, KS. Following the church closing she
joined the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS. She
belonged to the Italian American Society, Widows and Widowers Group
at St. Mary’s in Pittsburg, KS and the Chicopee Community Center.
Survivors include children Rosemary Flynn of Crest Hill, IL and Joseph
C. Clark and wife Susan of Lockport, IL; grandchildren Stacey Gonzales,
Kelly Becerra, Joseph Clark and Daniel Clark; 4 great-grandchildren and
4 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers John,
Joseph, and Chris Pesavento.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Thursday March 4, 2010 at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS with Fr. Robert Spencer
as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Highland ParkCemeteryin Pittsburg
, KS. Rosary will be recited at 7pm Wednesday at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS. Family will receive friends from 6-8pm.

GIRARD — Ronald Dean Wutke, age 67, resident of Girard, Kansas,
passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Girard Medical Center. He
was born January 25, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Clarence S.
(Red) Wutke and Nellie Virginia Cornelison Wutke. Ron was a 1961
graduate of Girard High School, four-year letterman, and president of his
senior class. He attended Kansas State College of Pittsburg. He married
Patricia Louise Boatman and moved to Denver, Colorado in 1964. They
had two daughters, Cheryl and Kristin. Patricia preceded Ron in death in
2007.
Ron was employed by several major companies including General
Electric, Hotpoint, and Holiday Inn. He divorced and moved back to
Kansas in 1986 where he purchased the East Side Café, the family
business. Soon after, he married
Pam Bailey of Radley. They later
divorced. After retiring recently, Ron was very active in the Girard
community and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2009. He was an
avid Girard Trojan Fan and loved all sports.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Wutke Michelet and husband,
Kirk of Baton Rouge, LA; Kristin Wutke Weis and husband, Jason, of
Tulsa, OK; his mother, Nellie V. Wutke of Girard; two brothers, Steve
Wutke and wife, Betty, of Springfield, MO; David Wutke and wife, Robin,
of Girard; sister-in-law, Catherine Wutke of Fort Scott; and beloved friend
and caregiver, Linda Carl. Also surviving are four grandchildren,
Christian and Jessica Michelet, and Joshua and Hannah Weis; five
nephews, Sam and Julie Wutke, Lance Reeves, Drew and Dane Wutke,
and Jeff Piccinelli and wife Shannon; two nieces, Angie Wutke Hickman
and husband, Jarrod, Paula Piccinelli and husband, Andre: one great
niece, Madison Wutke; one great nephew, Brooks Hickman. He was
preceded in death by his father, Clarence S. (Red) Wutke, and his
brother, Sam Charles Wutke, and many aunts and uncles.
The Wutke family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at
Girard Medical Center, as well as, Mt. Carmel Medical Center for their
excellent care and compassion during this difficult time.
The family is planning a celebration of Ron’s life Wednesday, March 3, 7-
9 PM at Celebrity’s in Girard. Memorials are suggested to Girard Medical
Center Foundation, of which Ron was a member. Memorials may be
given at Ron’s celebration or sent to 302 N. Hospital Drive, Girard,
Kansas.
