Charlotte Stahl Dixon, 90 of Pittsburg formerly of Overland Park, KS died
at 1:54 p.m. Saturday February 6, 2010 at the Cornerstone Village
Nursing Facility in Pittsburg.
She was born December 1, 1920 in Lincoln, NE the daughter of
Charles and Blanche (Goss) Stahl. She attended elementary and high
schools in Lincoln, attended University of Nebraska, and was involved in
the Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
Charlotte married
John J. (Jack) Dixon on April 14, 1944 in Fresno, CA
he preceded her in death on March 12, 2006.
She and her husband moved to Kansas City after his discharge from
the Army; they moved to Overland Park in 1950 and remained there until
they moved to Pittsburg in 2002.
Charlotte worked as a receptionist for a printing company. She was
currently a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg
. While living in Overland Park she was a member of the Queen of the
Holy Rosary Catholic Church and helped establish the library at the
church school. She was a den leader for Cub and Boy Scouts and Blue
Birds for several years. She was active in the Red Cross and enjoyed
dancing, bridge and golf.
Survivors include a son Mike Dixon and wife Lisa of Lancaster, KY; a
daughter Lynn Grant and husband Bob of Cherokee; 3 Granddaughters
Megan Fry and husband Kevin of Frontenac, Jennifer Dixon of
Lancaster, KY, Stephanie Dixon of Indianapolis, IN, 2 Great-
grandchildren Ross and Katie Fry both of Frontenac, a special nephew
Jim Easton and wife Judy of San Francisco, CA. She was preceded in
death by her parents, her husband John “Jack” and a sister Mildred
Huffman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday February 11th at Our
Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg with Father Thomas Stroot
as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. The
family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Pittsburg where friends may call after noon on
Wednesday. There will be a memorial mass for Charlotte and Jack at
Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS at a
later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the USO United Service

George Daniel “Dan” Homan 58, of Columbus, KS died 4:40pm Saturday
February 6, 2010 at his home following a long illness.
Dan was born November 3, 1951 in Parsons, KS to Oris T. and Rusti
Homan. He was a lifelong resident of the area and resided in Parsons,
Pittsburg, Scammon and most recently Columbus, KS. He earned a B.S.
Degree at Pittsburg State University in Social Psychology. He was a
Veteran of the Army serving as a Corpsman and earning the rank of E-6
from 1971-1977.
In May of 1983 he married
Terri L. Jordan in Parsons, KS; she survives
at the home. Prior to becoming ill Dan was in the Furniture Restoration
and Antiques business. He enjoyed fishing and his family was the most
important thing in his life.
Survivors include his wife, mother, children Joshua Homan of Liberty,
MO, Jerry Homan of Fontana, CA, Jonathon Gillis of Fredericksburg, TX,
and Christopher Gillis of Columbus, KS; sisters Kathy Hunter of Ajo, AZ,
Sheryl McClendon of Tyler, TX, Lucinda Merryfield of East Sussex,
England and Shelly Billington of Chanute, KS; brother Mike Homan of
Wichita, KS; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and sister Margaret “Sunny”
Buterfield.
Graveside Memorial Services will be 11am Wednesday February 10,
2010 at ParkCemeteryin Columbus, KS with Elders Wayne Dobkins and
Don Johnson officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the American
Legion of Columbus, KS. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of
sympathy be in the form of memorials to the St. John’s Hospice.

Carolyn Sue Mansell 65, of Arma, KS died 5:41am Thursday February 4,
2010 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO following a long illness.
Carolyn was born March 16, 19 44 in Holton, KS to Delbert and Jessie
(Tharp) Mansell. She has been a resident of the area most all her life.
Carolyn was a homemaker. She was a member of the Wesley House and
Methodist Church.
Survivors include siblings Thelma Harsha of Holton, KS, Peggy Lou
Davidson of Kansas City, MO, Betty Jean Shealp of Kansas City, MO;
nieces and nephews Alice Woods, Jodi Brown, Stephanie Benson, Vicki
Maygers, Christy Reed, Jay Mansell and Billy Mansell; 7 great nieces and
nephews; 14 great great nieces and nephews and many cousins and
friends.
Preceded in death by her parents siblings Jimmy, Hazel, Leroy and
Donald; infant son Richard Tate Jr.

Lila Mae (Gamble) Standley, 90 of Pittsburg died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday
February 4, 2010 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac, KS.
She was born November 2, 1919 in Weir, KS the daughter of Lyle and
Cecil Mae (Penrod) Gamble.
Lila attended Weir schools and was a 1937 graduate of Weir High
School. She moved to Pittsburg from Weir in 1966; she moved to
Independence, MO in 1971 and returned to Pittsburg in 1981.
She married
Ermin Standley May 19, 1937 in Arma, KS; they were later
divorced.
While living in Weir Lila worked for Fromong’s Grocery; she also was a
sales clerk for Singer Stores for 20 years being responsible for the fabric
department.
Lila was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg;
the Order of the Eastern Star in Weir; while being a member of the Weir
United Methodist Church she was affiliated with the following programs
and activities: U.M.W., Sunday school and Bible School Teacher, Choir
Director, Youth Leader and a Baldwin University Camp for Young Women
Counselor.
Survivors include 2 sons- Tom Standley of Charlotte, N.C.; Bill
Standley of Parsons, KS; 2 daughters Shirley Patterson and Linda Pryer
both of Pittsburg; 11 Grandchildren, 21 Great-grandchildren, 3 Great-
great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Connie McCoy, a brother
George Gamble, a sister Irene Prewett and a Granddaughter Billie Jo
Helton Casella.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday February 9, 2010 at the Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg with Reverend Kathleen
Owsley officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery. The
family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home
where friend may call after noon on Monday.

Edwin A. Herbeck, 89 of Pittsburg died at 6:30a.m. Tuesday February 2,
2010 at the Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg.
He was born September 25, 1920 in Lansing, KS the son of Albert
and Josephine (Young) Herbeck. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School
and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1938. He enlisted in the
Army Air Corps on October 29, 1942 where he served with the 465th
SVC SQDN AAF as an airplane and engine mechanic. He was Honorably
Discharged on December 7, 1945
Mr. Herbeck worked for many years at Helio Aircraft until its closing.
He then began working at McNally’s Manufacturing Valve Division
Department, retiring in 1986.
On December 20, 1941 he was united in marriage to Ann M. Bergant
at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pittsburg ; she preceded him in
death on July 14, 2003.
Mr. Herbeck was a faithful and devoted member of Our Lady of
Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, serving as Eucharistic Minister
and Lector. He was a 55 year member of the Knights of Columbus
holding the honor of 4th Degree. He was a member of the Benjamin
Fuller American Legion Post #64 of Pittsburg; a Red Coat volunteer for
Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center. He also enjoyed volunteering at
St. Mary’s Elementary School and participated in the Shaping Lives
program at Pittsburg Community Middle School.
Survivors include a brother Tom (Louise) Herbeck of Millbrae, CA; two
daughters Judy (Alex) Barde and Vickie (Ken) Waltrip all of Pittsburg.
Eight grandchildren- Dimitre Barde (Rachel) of Chicago, IL, Lisa (Dave)
Strohauer of Atlanta, GA, Ethan (Tammy) Barde, Holland, MI, Jason
(Michele) Waltrip, Spring Hill, KS, Stephanie (PJ) Forbes, Wichita, KS,
Brad Waltrip, Kansas City, MO., Emily (Justin) Hamilton, Wichita, KS and
Katie (Justin) Swezey, Pittsburg; 15 Great-grandchildren and numerous
nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, his beloved wife
of 61 years; two sisters-Shirley McMahan and JoAn Pidd and a brother
Gerald (Klaner) Herbeck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday February 6, 2010 at
the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg with Father
Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Highland Park
Cemetery where the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64 will
provide flag folding and presentation ceremonies. The parish rosary will
be recited at 6 p.m. Friday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg
where the family will receive friends following until 8 p.m. Friends may
call after noon on Friday.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Our Lady of Lourdes
Memorial Fund or to the Sister of St. Joseph sculpture fund. Memorials
