Charles R. Bolen, 77 of Columbus died at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday December
22, 2009 at the Maude Norton Hospital in Columbus.
He was born October 27, 1932 in Oswego, KS the son of Robert Lee
and Elva (Esther) Bolen. He attended Oswego schools and was a 1950
Graduate of Oswego High School. He moved to Columbus in 1952.
Charley married Shirley Tedlock-Reid on December 13, 1977 in
Columbus; she survives at the home.
Charley worked for himself for 44 years as a brick mason retiring in
1997.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church; the Prudence Lodge
#100 of Columbus where he was 2 times past master, he was a member
of the Mirza Shrine, the Scottish Rite and the CK Clowns Club. He
enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his wife Shirley of the home; 3 sons-Brian Bolen of
Topeka, KS, Bruce Bolen of Council Grove, KS, Steve Reid of
Farmington Hills, MI; 3 daughters Donna Wixon of Baxter Springs, KS,
Lisa Weir of Arma, KS and Candy Kronson of Lavonia, GA; a sister Jean
Lutz of Oswego, KS; 11 Grandchildren, 5 Great-grandchildren and a
special group of friends Don Miller, Willie and Lil Garagan and Ron
Shultz. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. He will be
missed by all his friends @ Crow’s Restaurant.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday December 26, 2009 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus with Tom Bond officiating. The
Prudence Lodge #100 will conduct Masonic funeral rites at the funeral
home following the services. Inurnment of cremains will follow at the Park
Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mirza’s Transportation
Fund; memorials may be left at or mailed to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home
611 S. East Ave. Columbus, KS 66725.

PITTSBURG — Virginia M. Snell, 79 of Pittsburg, KS died at 5:45 p.m.,
Friday, December 18, 2009 at her home.
Virginia was born December 17, 1930 in Pittsburg, KS to Tennis Isaac
and Pearl (Slaughter) Norris. She attended area schools, graduating
form Pittsburg High School.
On June 4, 1953 in Bentonville, AR, she married Joseph Dale Snell. He
preceded her in death on April 7, 1995.
Virginia was a homemaker most of her life. She later worked for Chicken
Mary’s, in Pittsburg for 12 years.
Virginia was a member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church, where
she helped with the Chicken Noodle Dinners. She belonged to the Red
Hats Society, and delivered Meals on Wheels for 11 years. She loved to
cook and she is known for her brownies and French cookies.
Survivors include her sons Ronald Snell of Ft. Smith, AR, Gary Snell and
Debi of Mulberry, Terry Snell and Eldora of Pittsburg and Gerald Snell of
Wichita, KS; daughters Brenda Howell and Doug of St. Peters, MO and
Nancy West of Frontenac, KS; sisters Dorothy Wisdom of Seneca, MO
and Edith Hurl Bert and Roscoe of Pittsburg, KS; sister-in-laws Sharon
Norris of Pittsburg and Edith Norris of Davenport, IA; along with 15
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and special friend and former
pastor Verl Strong of Frontenac, KS.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, son Donald Snell;
Brothers Eddie, Larry, Willard and Chet Norris, brother-in-law Shirley
Wisdom and sister-in-law Cathryn Norris.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, KS with Rev. Dennis
Paschke officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery
in Pittsburg, KS. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Monday at
the funeral home. Friends may call the funeral home after 4pm on
Monday. The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of
memorials to the Frontenac United Methodist Church. Memorials may be
left at or mailed to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Pittsburg, KS.

Fawna Leigh Box, 55, Shawnee, KS; passed away Sunday, December
13, 2009 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Visitation will be 6-8
p.m., Thursday, December 17, 2009 at The Amos Family Chapel of
Shawnee. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 19,
2009 at Bath Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS; Visitation will be one
hour prior to service time burial to follow in Lone Elm Cemetery. In lieu
of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Turning Point at 8900
State Line Rd., #240, Shawnee Mission, KS 66206-1936. Fawna is
survived by her husband Roger of the home, one daughter, Tiffany
(Brian) Carbajo, Merriam,KS; two brothers Grant (Toni) Spieth and Dale
(Pat) Spieth, Columbus, KS; one half brother Jim (Nancy) Speith, Cape
Coral, FL; and two grandchildren Emma, and Barrett Carbajo, Merriam,
KS; one uncle Bill (Mary) Spieth, Denver, CO; Fawna is a graduate of
Columbus Unified High School, Johnson County Community College with
an A.A.S. in nursing and she also graduated from The University of
Kansas Medical Center with a B.S. in Nursing.

BAXTER SPRINGS - Everett (Jerry) St. Clair, retired pipe fitter, 70, of
Baxter Springs, KS, died 3:30pm Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at
Freeman Health Center in Joplin, MO. Private ceremonies are under the
direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, KS.

Peggy Sue Badart, 64 of Frontenac died at 10:59 a.m. Tuesday
December 8, 2009 at her home in Frontenac.
She was born August 15, 1945 in Chanute, KS the daughter of Ira and
Geneva (Brown) Herndon. She attended Chanute schools.
Peggy married Johnny Badart in 1971; they later divorced.
She was a lifetime resident and business owner in Pittsburg.
Survivors include 4-sons-Johnny Webb and significant other Peggy
White of Joplin, MO, Roger Webb and significant other Karla Prentice,
Michael Lamb and wife Felicia, Paul Lawson all of Pittsburg; 2 daughters
Christy Wells and husband Lonnie, Lana Webster and husband J.D. all
of Pittsburg. 4 sisters Vera Tidd, Donna Mitchell, Patsy Smith all of
Joplin, MO, Rosie McCane of Chanute; 2 brothers Byrl Herndon of Joplin,
MO, Dean Herndon of Neck City, MO; 19 grandchildren, 5
great-grandchildren and a special friend Dave Dye of Pittsburg. She was
preceded in death by her parents, a brother Claude Herndon; 2 sisters
Ima Jean Beckley, Catherine West and a niece Suzy Feldhut.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday December 12, 2009 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Reverend Jim Sukraw
officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. The family
will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where
friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made to the Lung Cancer
Research Foundation. Memorials may be brought by or mailed to the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg, KS 66762.

Anita J. Twombley 66, of Arma, KS passed away 8:37pm Monday
December 7, 2009 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg,
KS following a long illness.
Anita was born October 14, 19 43 in Charleston, MO the daughter of
Francis and Laura (Gazaway) Houston. She attended area schools in
California and settled in the Arma, KS area 15 years ago to be with her
family. In her younger years she worked as a Certified Nurses Aide.
Anita was of the Christian Faith. She loved working and building things
with her hands. She will be most remembered as a loving mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
Survivors include her children Cathy Linder and husband Evan of Arma,
KS, Lorie Graziose and husband Don of Pittsburg, KS, Michael Burk and
Barcus Twombley of Loleta, CA ; 2 sisters; grandchildren Trista, Donny,
Jenifer, Skyler, Brian, Shannon and Darren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Per Anita’s wishes a Celebration of Life will be held at 211 W. Adams
Pittsburg, KS on Sunday December 13, 2009 at 2pm. E-mail
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of
Pittsburg, KS.

PITTSBURG — Ralph O. Mason, 74 of Pittsburg, KS died at 2:41pm,
Sunday, December 6, 2009 at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Ralph was born October 17, 1935 in Pittsburg, KS to Thomas O. and
Leila Bell (Story) Mason. He attended area schools, graduating from
CCHS with the class of 1953.
On May 18, 1958, in McCune, KS, he married Anita L. Green. She
survives of the home.
Ralph served his country in the United States Army. He was honorably
discharged in 1960.
Ralph worked for Tom Green for a couple years as a farm hand. He later
worked for Dickey Clay Plant for 13 years on the coupler line, forklift
driver and yard helper. He retired in 2005 from Harvest Brand, where he
worked as a forklift driver and a valve packer.
Additional survivors include his daughters Rhonda Pool and husband
Mark of Pittsburg, Lisa Tippins and husband Cary of Shreveport, LA,
Lynne Mason of Pittsburg and Sue Beltrani-Bautista of Pittsburg;
brothers Thomas M. Mason and wife Elanore of Crosby, Tennessee and
Freddie I. Mason and wife Cheryl of Santee, S. Carolina; sisters Barbara
Mangile and husband Ronnie of Capaldo, KS and Caithryn “Cat” Gregg
of Pittsburg; 4 grandchildren Rachelle Tippins, Ashley Mason, Ryder
Mason and Randi Stevens; along with 4 great-grandchildren Chase,
Chance and Chandler McReynolds and Chloe Stevens.
Ralph is preceded in death by his parents and grandson Mason Pool.
Memorial services will be 2:00pm, Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg with Coby Clarkson
officiating. Flag presentation will be given by the Ft. Riley Funeral Honors
Guard. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the
SEK Humane Society. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home of Pittsburg.
