PITTSBURG — Freda M. Scott, 75 of Pittsburg, KS died at 1:00pm,
Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Pittsburg.
Freda was born September 4, 1933 in Clint, TX to Fred and Laura
(Crutsinger) Chambers. She attended area schools. She married
Roy L.
Scott in Arizona, 53 years ago. He survives in Pittsburg, KS.
Freda lived most of her life on the farm in rural route Scammon, KS.
Freda worked in the Garment industry for many years. She worked at Big
Smith in Columbus and King Louie in Baxter Springs. Freda attended the
Asbury 1st Baptist Church for many years. Additional survivors include
her sons Buddy Scott and his wife Angela of Carthage, MO; Mickey Scott
of Pittsburg and David Scott of Belton, MO; sister Betty Jannell of
Canutillo, TX and one grandson Nathan. Freda was preceded in death by
her parents and several sisters. There are no services planned at this
time. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. The family suggests
expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Golden Living

PITTSBURG — Dorothy A. (Torchia) Tomaselli, 87, of Pittsburg, KS died
4:45pm Saturday August 8, 2009 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center
in Pittsburg, KS following a short illness.
Dorothy was born March 4, 1922 in Corona, KS to Mike and Angeline
(Rondinella) Torchia. She was lifelong resident of the area and attended
Corona and Mineral schools.
On November 25, 1950 she married
Joseph Tomaselli in Pittsburg, KS;
he preceded her in death in February of 2001. Dorothy was a housewife.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac,
KS and a former member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in
Pittsburg, KS.
She will be most remembered as a great cook that would serve anyone
who showed up at her home, a loving aunt that was like a mother; her
family was most important thing in her life.
Survivors include a sister in-law Delores Torchia and many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Joe
Torchia and Frank Torchia; sister Mary (Torchia) Coon and a niece
Paula Hearn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Wednesday August 12, 2009 at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS with Fr. Robert Spencer
as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Garden of MemoriesCemeteryin
Pittsburg, KS. Rosary will be recited at 7pm Tuesday August 11, 2009 at
the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS; family will receive friends

ROSELAND — William (Willie) E. Benedict, 86 of Roseland, Kansas died
Tuesday, August 4th at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg,
KS.
Willie was born May 2, 1923 at 42 Camp, Cherokee County, Kansas to
Bartol and Mary (Padar) Benedict both of whom immigrated from
Yugoslavia through Ellis Island, New York.
The family moved to the farm in Roseland, Kansas in 1927, where Willie
resided and farmed for 78 years. He attended local schools and
graduated from West Mineral high School in 1941.
Willie is survived by two sons. David and wife Donna and their children
Gavin and Emily of Scammon. Gregg and children Aliza and Alivia of
Roseland. Nephew John and Debbie with their sons of Roseland. He also
had several nieces and nephews in Michigan.
Willie's legacy will best be remembered by his love of farm life, his family
and friends. Farming was a natural way of life for him. One of his
proudest achievements with his life was that he farmed the land for to its
fullest potential for 78 years. One thing that will always be remembered is
that the Willie's cattle were probably some of the fattest and best corn-
fed cattle in the area. Willie enjoyed watching his grand-children grow
and flourish at the farm. He was proud that he had taught his sons to
appreciate the meaning of what farming really is. He kept in touch with
extended family in Michigan on a regular basis. Friends were so
important to him as well. He loved to visit, laugh, and socialize with them.
Willie was preceded in death by a son William E. Benedict II, and a
Grandson Garrett Wade Benedict. His four brothers; Frank, Bart, Art,
John and three sisters, Mimi, Tonchka, and Rose. Also three
stepbrothers John, Frank, and Albin Dabalack.
Friends may call at the home of his son David who resides at 404 W.
Division St., Scammon, KS.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday August 8, 2009 at the Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Reverend Dennis Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. Bridget'sCemeteryin Scammon. The family will
receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in
Weir where friends may call after 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Southern Care Hospice or to
