PITTSBURG, KS - Phillistine Elizabeth Vann, 67, of Pittsburg, KS, died at
3:10 pm, Friday, August 27, 2010 at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, KS.
She was born June 3, 1943 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of Wilbur
Kent and Naomi Frances Elizabeth King Berger. She had been a
resident of Pittsburg her entire life.
After her graduation from Pittsburg High School she attended
Pittsburg State University for two years.
She had been employed at Delletters in Pittsburg and the Pittsburg
Morning Sun Newspaper.
Membership was held in the Salvation Army, Mt. Hebron Baptist
Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, all in Pittsburg, KS.
Survivors include one daughter Myrtle Elaine Williams and her
husband James of Kansas City, Kansas; one son Charles Lehon Vann
Jr. and his wife Tina of Independence, MO; one brother Fred Berger of
Pittsburg; four sisters Frances Ajani of Pittsburg; Myrtle Berger of
Michigan City, Indiana; Wilma Smith of Kansas City, MO; and Linda
Evans of Michigan City, Indiana; several nieces and nephews; two
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Clara and
Veoma.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral
Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg, KS with the Rev. Darrell Dorsey,
officiating. The family will receive their friends from 1 to 2 pm Friday at
the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the American
Kidney Foundation. The family would like to thank SKILLS and Southern
Care Hospice for the fine care of Phillistine during her illness.

Dorothy E. Melton Buffington, 89 of Frontenac died at 2:45 p.m.
Tuesday October 12, 2010 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg .
She was born March 25, 1921 in Pittsburg , KS the daughter of
Henry and Florence (Arbach) Ashmore. She was a lifetime resident of
the Pittsburg area.
Dorothy married
Wilford (Bill) Melton on September 24, 1938 in
Kirkwood , KS ; he preceded her in death on November 26, 1972. She
then married
Charles Buffington on March 19, 1976 in Carthage , MO ;
he preceded her in death on March 9, 1996.
She was a homemaker and was a nanny for several local
children. She also worked for Parsons Army Ammunition Plant and for
Barto’s Idle Hour in Frontenac.
Dorothy was a member of the South Broadway Baptist Church .
She enjoyed cooking, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens,
being outdoors and spending time with her family.
Survivors include 2 sons Larry Melton and wife Betty Jo of
Columbus, Lloyd Melton of Frontenac; 3 daughters Charlotte Purdy and
husband Larry of Pittsburg, Charlene Endicott and husband Harold of
Weir, Sharon Cleffman of Pittsburg; 16 Grandchildren, 30 Great-
grandchildren and 2 Great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by her parents; both husbands; a granddaughter Cindy Lou
Purdy; a great-granddaughter Gracie Helms; three sisters Hattie Jones,
Helen Bain, Jessie Melton; eight brothers Vier, Floyd, Reasel, Harold,
Carval, Raymond, Merle and Arthur Ashmore and a son-in-law Roy
Cleffman.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday October 15, 2010 at the
CrockerCemeterysoutheast of Pittsburg . Family and friends are
requested to meet at the funeral home to go in procession to the
cemetery; the procession will leave at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive
friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in

Marlene Rose Jameson, 67 of Houston , TX formerly of Pittsburg
, KS died at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday October 12, 2010, after battling Breast
Cancer.
She was born April 23, 1943 in Columbus , KS the daughter of
Cecil and Juanita (Sandberg) Coker.
Marlene married
Hiram C. Jameson; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons Clifford H. Jameson of Houston , TX
, Bryan K. Jameson of Frontenac , KS and Joseph J. Jameson of
Houston , TX . Three Grandchildren, Kayla, Tyler , Jordan and one
Great-Grandson Grant.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday October 16, 2010 at
the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Reverend Dennis
Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. OliveCemetery. The

Michael C. Burdick, of Pittsburg died at 2:10 a.m. Wednesday
October 13, 2010 at the St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin,
MO.
He was born February 9 in Pittsburg, KS the son of Charles Clyde
and Wanda (Martinous) Burdick. He was a lifetime resident of Pittsburg.
He attended and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School.
Michael was the manager of Crowell’s Food Service for over 30
years and worked at Wal-Mart for over 30 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; the
Knights of Columbus, past president of the Pittsburg Jaycees part owner
of Mickey Finn’s Country Club and did numerous amounts of community
service.
Survivors include a brother Larry Finn of Pittsburg; aunts and
uncles-Mose and Kathy Martinous of Joplin, MO, Raymond and Betty
Martinous and Freda Wilson all of Pittsburg and numerous cousins. He
was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday October 15, 2010 at
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg with Father Thomas
Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery.
The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Pittsburg where the family will receive friends following
the rosary until 7 p.m. The casket will remain closed at all times.

Dennis Lee Purdon, 70 of Pittsburg passed away early Saturday
morning, October 9, 2010.
He was born June 11, 1940 in Pittsburg, the son of William and Rose
(Morando) Purdon.
He attended St Mary’s Catholic School and graduated with the class of
1959.
On September 12, 1964 he married
Joyce (Marsh) Purdon in St. Mary’s.
Dennis was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He worked for the
Kansas Highway Department after high school. He later worked for KCS
for 30 years. Also during those years he owned and operated Purdon
Motor Company. He later went on to work for Pitzer Chevrolet and M&M
Motor Company.
Survivors include his wife Joyce of the home, 2 sons: Jeffrey, and wife
Robin Purdon. Keven, and wife Sonja Purdon. 4 Grandchildren: Taeler,
Kelse, Alaina, and Jillian. 1 sister, Janice Telscher and husband Ralph,
Niece Jana Hartshorn and husband Don, nephew Kurt Caruthers and
wife Linda.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be 11 A.M. Wednesday, October 13th 2010 at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Thomas Stroot officiating. Memorials

Rose Marie Harris, 110, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday,
October 8, 2010 at her home in Pittsburg.
She was born January 30, 1900 in Yale, KS, the daughter of Lott and
Margaret (Shaw) Miller.
On September, of 1954 she married
Walter B. Harris in Kansas City,
MO; he preceded her in death in 1973.
She was a member of the Light House Temple Church of God in Christ
and a member of the Mothers Board.
Rose was a maid and housekeeper for 55 years. She retired in 1962.
Survivors include 2 nieces, Juanita V. Gilmore of Pittsburg, and Darlene
I. Lomax of Pittsburg. She is also survived by many other friends and
family members.
She was preceded in death by her son Floyd M. Allen and 5 brothers,
and 4 sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the Light
House Temple Church of God in Christ in Pittsburg with Elder Walter
Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at their convenience after 2 pm Monday, until five pm

Lucille Helen Davidson, 92 of Frontenac, died at 6 am, Friday, October
08, 2010 at the Via Christi Hospital Pittsburg.
She was born October 3, 1918 in Pittsburg the daughter of Arthur E and
Mary O. (Westerlin) Chance.
On March 13, 1943 she was united in marriage to Troy “Chub” Davidson
in Lamar, MO; he preceded her in death on April 27, 1990.
Lucille was a homemaker and a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in
Pittsburg.
Survivors include two sisters Clementine Munn of Frontenac and Lydia
“Billie” Osborn of Joplin, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Graveside Services will be 10 am, Monday, October 11, 2010 at the
Highland ParkCemeterycommittal shelter, with Pastor Sandy Stallings
officiating. Friends and family are requested to meet at the Cemetery
