Vernon A. Curtis, 85 of Weir, KS died Tuesday, Oct 5, 2010 at his home
following a sudden illness.
He was born November 6, 1924 in Weir, the son of Arthur H. and
Elizabeth (Martin) Curtis. He attended weir schools and graduated from
Weir High School with the class of 1943.
In June of 1943 he was inducted into the U.S. Navy where he served
until June of 1946 when he was honorably discharged and entered the
Navy Reserves. In July of 1951 he was reactivated and served a year
during the Korean War, he was separated July 1952.
Curtis was united in marriage to Jean Ann Ross on June 17, 1949 in
Houston, TX; she preceded him in death on January 5, 2001.
He worked in the Aircraft Manufacturing for 25 years, he worked on the
B-1 bomber and some of the Apollo Spacecraft.
He was a member of the Cherokee Baptist Church, lifetime member of
the DAV and a member of the American Legion of Weir.
Survivors include 2 sons: Micheal R. Curtis of CA and Russell and wife
Bobbie Curtis of Sun Valley, CA. 3 brothers: Francis Curtis of Las
Vegas, NV, Donald Lee Curtis of Weir, Billy Wayne Curtis of Houston,
TX, 2 sisters Doris Tidwell of Huntsville, TX and Marlene Bennett of Lees
Summit, MO; 2 granddaughters: Melanie and Rebecca Suraci, 2
step-grandchildren Micah and Timothy Peters and 3 step-great
grandchildren Timothy Peters, Micah Peters, II, Emily Peters and
numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant daughter Mary
Kathleen, a sister Helen Cook and a brother George Curtis.
Funeral services will be 9 am Saturday, October 9th, 2010 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Rev. Jamie Tickel officiating.
Burial will follow at the Hosey Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends at
the funeral home from 6-8 pm Friday. Condolences may be left at

Patricia Jo Jacquinet, 74 of Pittsburg died Tuesday October 5,
2010 at the St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin , MO.
She was born October 10, 1935 in Weir, KS the daughter of
Joseph N. and Augusta M. (Mill) Jacquinet.
She has been a lifetime resident of the Weir/Pittsburg area and
had made her home in Pittsburg for the past 30 years with her sister
Rose, brother-in-law Damian and their son Charles Buset.
Patricia attended the Olathe Schools for the Deaf; she had been
employed with Class Limited years ago. While working for Class Patricia
had several duties.
She was baptized into the Catholic Faith.
Survivors include two sisters Rose Buset and Debbie Pierce both
of Pittsburg ; two brothers Jerry Jacquinet or McCune, Joseph Jacquinet
of rural McCune; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great
nephews, and a special great niece Allie Pierce who lived in the home
with Patricia. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister
Connie Tierney and a brother-in-law Damian Buset.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday October 9, 2010 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Father Thomas Stroot
officiating. Burial will follow in the Hosey HillCemeteryin Weir. The
family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Pittsburg where friends may call after noon on Friday.
Patricia was known to her siblings as their Beloved Sister, she will be
greatly missed by all of her immediate and extended families. The family
will be at the home of Charles Buset at 501 W. 4th St. Pittsburg.

Marjorie A. Huston 90, of Columbus, KS died 3pm Tuesday October 5,
2010 at Medicalodge Nursing Home in Columbus, KS following a short
illness.
Marjorie was born October 28, 1919 in West Mineral, KS the daughter of
James M. and Hattie A. (Houseworth) Huff. She was a lifelong resident
of the area and a graduate of West Mineral High School in 1939. On
January 16, 1941 she married
David H. (Jack) Huston in Fort Scott, KS;
he preceded her in death on April 6, 1978.
Marjorie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Columbus, KS;
she enjoyed gardening but most of all her family. She was youngest of
eight children.
Survivors include daughter Linda Brumback of Columbus, KS and
Marilyn Torchia and husband Mike of Columbus, KS; daughter-in-law
Helen Dahlin of Columbus, KS; brother Paul Huff and wife Margaret of
McCune, KS; sister Helen Rennie of Columbus, KS; 12 grandchildren, 22
great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Wayne A.
Huston and George A. Huston and wife Mala; brothers Henry Huff and
Ross Huff; sisters Florence Hartman, Ruth Waugh, and Clara Adamson;
son-in-law William Brumback; grandson Dale Wilcox and
great-grand-daughter Gracie Hill.
Graveside Services will be 2:30pm Thursday October 7, 2010 at Park
Cemetery in Columbus, KS with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Family
will receive friends from 1-2pm Thursday prior to the service at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS. In lieu of flowers the family
ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the

John B. Spriggs, 99 of Columbus passed away Tuesday, October 5th at
Medicalodge Nursing home in Columbus, KS.
He was born December 18th, 1910 in rural West Mineral, KS the son of
John and Cecila (Fry) Spriggs.
John married
Julia (Polowich) on October 17th, 1931 in Chikopee, KS.
She preceeded him in death July 25, 2006.
He was a self-employed farmer for many years.
John was a member of the Methodist Church in Columbus, A chairman of
the Administration board, Chairman of the Methodist Church Trustee,
Chairman of Farm Bureau Board, 4-H Club leader, and a Methodist
Church Sunday School Teacher.
Survivors include daughter Beverly and husband Gareld Woltkamp of
Lakewood, CA., 4 Grandchildren, Jeffery Woltkamp, San Juan
Capistrano, CA., Susan and husband Curt Itson, Fremont CA., Deborah
and husband John Gomez, Long Beach, CA., Anthony and Wife Amy
Woltkamp, Placentia, CA., 7 Great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jennifer
Woltkamp, Gian Marcucci, Sarah and Cassandra Itson, Adeline and
Annika Woltkamp. He was preceeded in death by his parents and wife.
Graveside service will be 11:30 A.M., Thursday, October 7th at Park
Cemetery in Columbus, KS with Reverend Susan Daniel-Brey Officiating.
Visatation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Thursday October 7th, at

Kenneth R. Keopke 51, of Girard , KS died 5:36pm Saturday October 2,
2010 at Girard Medical Center following a long illness.
Ken was born February 25, 1959 in Girard , KS the son of Linville R. and
Alice (Ridings) Keopke. He lived in this area most of his life attending
area schools. He was a veteran of the Army.
On October 31, 1978 he married
Janice Wilson in Lamar , MO ; they
later divorced.
He worked in Telecommunications for many years retiring due to ill
health.
Survivors include his father, children Nicholas Keopke and wife Sandra
of Pittsburg, KS, Kendra Brooksher and husband Matthew of Pittsburg,
KS, Zak Keopke and wife Lauryl of Independence, MO and Kaylee
Keopke of Chihowee, MO; siblings Pam Doherty of St. Paul, KS, Larry
Keopke of Girard, KS, Susan Crump and Charles of Girard, KS and
Janet Keopke of Girard, KS; grandchildren Isaac Keopke, Avery and
Aiden Brooksher and Kaleb Keopke.
He was preceded in death by his mother Alice Keopke.

Carole June Passeri (81) passed away peacefully at 11:45 am on
September 29, 2010 following a long illness at Sunset Manor Nursing
Home. Her children , Steven Louis Passeri and Patricia Marie Krantz
were present at her side.
She enjoyed fifty-three years of marriage to Louis Passeri who departed
ten years prior. Carole is sadly missed by her sister, Ann Eden (Carl
Junction, MO); her grandchildren, Rick Foster ( Pittsburg ), Matt Krantz (
Pittsburg ) and Elizabeth Passeri ( Kansas City , MO ); and a great-
grandson, Joseph Colin Ballay ( Pea Ridge , AR ).
Besides her career as a homemaker, Carole was employed at various
places in the area including the United States Census Bureau.
Guest, visitors and friends will be welcome at 906 East 13 Street,
Pittsburg , KS this Saturday beginning at 5:00pm .
The family wishes to thank Sunset Manor and staff, as well as Southern
Care Hospice for their professionalism and support in Carole’s care.
