Willis C. Newberry, 86 of Columbus, KS passed away Sunday,
May 1, 2011 at Medicalodge of Columbus.
He was born October 18, 1924 in Columbus, the son of William
Benton and Luva (Berger) Newberry.
Willis enlisted in the Army in 1943, serving 2 years during World
War II.
He married
Iva (Mitchell) Newberry on October 25, 1946 in Columbus.
She survives of the home.
Willis was very active during his life, owning Newberry Floor
Covering, The Liberty Palace Disco, The Trails End, and The Pub Deli,
all of Columbus. He retired in 1993. He attended the Columbus
Christian Center.
Survivors include his wife Iva of the home. 4 sons, Willis Newberry
JR and wife Linda of Laughlin, Nevada. Richard Newberry and wife
Terri, Michael Newberry and wife Dixie, and David Newberry and wife
Kelly, all of Columbus. 14 Grandchildren and 18 Grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by twin sons Larry Dee and Jerry Lee Newberry. 2
Grandsons, Morris and Michael JR. Newberry. Sister Lorene Grizzle and
Twin Brother Willie Newberry.
The Family has requested Cremation with no Services. The family
has invited friends and family out to Iva’s home 5 pm Friday, May 6

Lorine M. Blessant 83, of Pittsburg , KS died 2:45pm Sunday May 1,
2011 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg , KS following a long illness.
Lorine was born September 17, 1927 in Ringo , KS the daughter of
William and Adela (Battitori) Hartog. She was a lifelong resident of the
area and attended area schools in Girard , KS and Ringo , KS . On
August 12, 1950 Lorine married
Raymond Charles Blessant; he
preceded her in death on January 15, 1999 . Lorine worked at Caskey
Motor Company in Pittsburg , KS and Montgomery Ward as a service
clerk. After raising her children she began working as a Secretary for
Carnie Smith the Athletic Director and later the Pittsburg State University
Biology Department for over 20 years retiring in 1989. She loved to
work with the students and was known as Mrs. B. She also belonged to
the Retired Civil Service Club in Pittsburg , KS and family was the most
important thing in her life.
Survivors include children Diane Letner and husband AL of Pittsburg,
KS, Carolyn Balizabeh and husband Khosro of Pocoima, CA and Gary
Ray Blessant and wife Chris of Wichita, KS; sister Mary Jane Cavanaugh
and husband A.J. of Wichita, KS; grandchildren Amy Ribeau, Sheerin
Balizadeh, Shahla Balizadeh, Shahin Balizadeh, Shahna Balizadeh, Josh
Letner and wife Jennifer and Ian Letner; and 4 great-grandchildren Sara
Ribeau, Edwin Ribeau, Kaleigh Balizadeh and Summer Layden.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral Services will be 10am Thursday May 5, 2011 at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Pittsburg , KS with Rev. James Fellers officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. OliveCemeteryin Pittsburg , KS . Family will
receive friends from 7-8pm Wednesday May 4, 2011 at the Funeral
Home; friends may call after 12pm on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers the
family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the

Genevieve “Jennie” T. Young, 99 of Midland , MI formerly of West
Mineral, KS died Saturday April 30, 2011 in Midland , MI .
She was born March 24, 1912 in West Mineral, Ks., the daughter
of Joe and Petronilla (Salvino) Vigna. She was a 1931 graduate of
West Mineral High School .
Jennie married
John S. Young on January 20, 1935 in Kansas City
, Mo., later moving back to Mineral.
She worked for the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons
during WWII, Korean Conflict and the Berry Garment Factory in
Columbus .
Jennie was a former member of the Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church in West Mineral, KS.
Survivors include a son James Young and wife Janice of Midland,
MI, 4 Grandchildren; Robert Young of Torrance, Ca., Theresa Hill of
Pittsburg, Ks., Karen Jameson and Barbara Young of Cherokee, Ks., 9
Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-great grandchild. She was preceded
in death by her parents; two brothers James and Joe Vigna and a sister
Mabel Crette.
Funeral services will be 11 a .m. Wednesday May 11th, 2011 at
the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Father Chrysostom Ah
Maung officiating. Burial will follow in the StarCemeteryin West
Mineral. The family will receive friends from 10 a .m. until service time

Loretta Ann Rogers, 65 of Pittsburg KS was called home to be
with Our Lord and Savior early Friday morning, April 22, 2011 at Via
Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.
She was born January 18, 1946 in Pittsburg, the daughter of
Wallace C. and Flora Delores (Walker) Rogers. She attended Pittsburg
High School and graduated with the class of 1964.
Loretta married
Harry F. Reaves JR. and of this union was one
son, Stacy C. Reaves. They later divorced. She then married
and later
divorced Frederick L. Berger and from this union Loretta had two
children, Ericka L. Berger and Courtney R. Berger Imhof, as well as six
step-children; Clayton L. Allmon who preceded her in death, Johnny
Berger, Jewell A. Burns, Cordell Berger, Crystal Johnson, and Rosetta
Allmon.
Loretta was affiliated with Mt. Hebron Baptist Church for most of
her life. She was also a member of the Ebony Flares, Court of
Callenthes, and The Sahara Chapter No. 28 Order of the Eastern Stars.
Loretta was a helper by nature which shone through her career
and life choices. She was employed by the Census Bureau, BJ’s Styling
Salon, Social and Rehabilitation Services as a family support worker,
New Horizons, Kaw Valley, Danka and The Blessed Sacrament in
Kansas City, KS.
Loretta is survived by her children: Stacy Reaves, Ericka Berger
and Courtney Berger-Imhof, all of Pittsburg as well as five step-children.
Sisters, Frances Rogers, Jacqueline Franklin, Leeza Rogers of Kansas
City, and Judy Castagno of Noel, MO. Two brothers; Lloyd Davis of
Atlanta, GA and Robert Parrish of Pittsburg. 3 grandchildren of the
home, Sonny Berger, Amanda McElhaney and Eric Berger; 14
grandchildren, 3 great-Grandchildren, and a host of nieces and
nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and
stepson.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011 at Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Reverend Clifford Allmon
officiating. Visitation will be from 9 am until service time Friday. Burial

Darlene Rapp, 82, of Columbus formerly of Scammon died at 11:20 pm,
April 21, 2011 at the Medicalodge of Columbus.
She was born October 4, 1928 in Skidmore, KS the daughter of Samuel
A. and Lela G. (Scott) Thomas.
She was married
to Donald Alfred Rapp in 1953 in Pittsburg, he
preceded her in death.
Darlene was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God of
Prophecy.
Survivors include a son Donald Rapp and his wife Tina of Scammon;
three brothers: Bobbie Joe Thomas of Sallisaw, OK, Billie G. Thomas of
Pittsburg, Sammie G. Thomas of Leavenworth, KS and a granddaughter
Rebekah Amerson of Ft. Smith, AR.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, two brothers and
a sister.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Columbus with Rev. Randy Arnold officiating. Burial will
follow at the Lone Elm Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the
funeral home one hour before service time beginning at 1 pm.

PITTSBURG — Christopher N. Stafford died on 4/16/2011 at his home.
He was born on 7/22/1988 to William and Shauna Stafford in Fort Scott,
Kansas.
He graduated from Pittsburg High School and was currently attending
Pittsburg State University.
On 7/24/2010 he married
Kali R Cecil. He is survived by his wife, their
three children, Ryder, Weston, and Brook, his parents, one brother,
Shawn, close friends, and his extended family who loved him dearly.
He will be cremated, according to his wishes. Services are pending with
Bath Naylor Funeral Home.

Dorothy Nadine Powell 83, of Pittsburg, KS passed away April 15,
2011 in Austin, TX.
She was born April 18, 1927 in Pittsburg the daughter of Harold
and Laura (Seybold) Smith.
Dorothy graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1945. She lived
in Pittsburg for 70 years, where she loved the people of the area.
On December 24, 1954 she married
Edward O’Neill Powell in
Pittsburg; he preceded her in death February 9, 1967.
She was a homemaker. Dorothy attended the St. Peters
Episcopal Church. She was also active in the Ladies VFW Auxiliary Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Victoria Martin, and husband Hall of
Austin, TX, Granddaughter, Lili of Austin, Niece, Paula Vediz and
husband John of Topeka, KS; two Great-nephews Adam and Timothy
Vediz, Cousins: Steve, Lance and Jan Seybold,.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Betty
Martin and a brother, Bill Smith.
Funeral Services will be 1 pm, Friday, April 22, 2011 at Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Reverend Clifford Allmon
