Constance J. Evans 93, of Columbus, KS died Sunday February 6, 2011
at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, MO following a short
illness.
Constance was born March 18, 1917 in Columbus, KS the daughter of
Congreve J. and Maude Agnes. (Vining) Hurt. She was a lifelong
resident of the area and attended area schools in Columbus, KS. On
June 16, 1940 she married Marion L. Evans in Columbus, KS; he
preceded her in death in July of 1988. Constance was a housewife.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Columbus, KS; the
oldest living member of the church; enjoyed putting on church diners
and belonged to PEO.
Survivors include her children Fred Evans and wife Nancy of Columbus,
KS and Richard Evans and wife Betty of Arvada, CO; grandchildren Phil
Evans and wife Neely of Columbus, KS, Paul Evans and wife Stephanie
of Columbus, KS, Mendy Evans of Denver, CO and Rick Evans of
Denver, CO; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother A.J. Hurt
and sisters Martha Belt, Agnes Bitterman, Frances Norris and Mary
Gore.
Funeral Services will be 11am Thursday February 10, 2011 at the Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS with Pastor Susan Daniel Brey
officiating. Burial will take place at a private date at ParkCemeteryin
Columbus, KS. Family will receive friends from 10-11am Thursday
February 10, 2011 at the Funeral Home; friends may call at the funeral
home after 12pm on Wednesday. The family suggests expressions of
sympathy be in the form of memorials to the United Methodist Church in
lieu of flowers. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to the Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home 611 S. East Ave. Columbus, KS 66725. E-mail

Margaret Delores Schuberger, 91 of rural Pittsburg, died at 2:25 am,
Tuesday January 25, 2011 at the Via Christi Village.
She was born June 30, 1919 in Weir, KS the daughter of Henry and
Elizabeth (Moore) Matthews.
On March 5, 1938 she was united in marriage to Edward Schuberger in
Pittsburg; he preceded her in death on May 28, 1993.
Delores was a cosmetologist for 45 years, she worked for The Twins
Beauty Shop and then opened her own shop called Happy Hair. She
retired in 2006 at the age of 86.
She was a lifetime area resident and a longtime member of the United
Methodist Church of Weir. She was also a lifetime member of the Order
of Eastern Star Kent Chapter 117, Weir, KS where she held a 50 year
pin. She had a dual membership with the Order of Eastern Star Chapter
74 of Pittsburg and a member of the Chicopee Foundation.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Sharon Mahaffey of Independence, MO
and Jeanne McGuire of Sunnyvale, CA; a son Edward “Bud” Schuberger
and wife Arlene of rural Weir; nine grandchildren: Rick Whitmore, Kevin
(Debbie) Whitmore, Mark Mahaffey, Donnell (Lee) Minta, Jenette
(Dennis) Scales, Shannon (Clint) Walton, Shane (Heather) Schuberger,
Shelly (Gary) Brown and Chantelle McGuire, along with 14 great
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Vivian
(Matthews) Maddox, three brothers: Mark, Bernard and Henry Matthews,
Jr.
Funeral Services will be 10 am, Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Weir
United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Banks officiating. Burial will
follow in the Hosey Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg from 6-8 pm Sunday. Condolences

Diedre L. Roberts, 49 of Pittsburg died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday January 6,
2011 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg .

She was born March 4, 1961 in Fresno , CA the daughter of
William and Nina (Kelso) Smith. She has lived in Pittsburg for the past
26 years.

Diedre worked for Able Body Design in Pittsburg and most
recently worked for Millers Professional Imaging off and on since 2004.

Survivors include a son Anthony Karnes of Pittsburg; two
daughters Alison Karnes of Pittsburg and Amy Karnes of Wichita; her
mother Nina Smith of Selma, CA; three sisters Wilma (Willie) Horton of
Pittsburg, Althea Lowe of Houston, TX, Lori Strapp of Orville, CA; two
brothers Kevin Smith of Eureka, CA, Will Smith of Pittsburg; two
grandchildren Basia Karnes and Anthony Karnes Jr. and nieces Autumn
Kaley and Katrina Derenia. She was preceded in death by
grandparents Virginia and William Kelso, Grandma Fran, Grandpa
Norman and Aunt Alice.

Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Monday January 10th at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Reverend Jim Sukraw
officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 8

contribution can be made to the Southeast Kansas Humane Society.

Joanne Caroline Roy, 69 of Arma, died at 7:02 p.m. Wednesday
January 5, 2011 at the Medicalodge South Nursing Home in Pittsburg .

She was born November 21, 1941 in Lynn , MA the daughter of
James A. Sr. and Mary Elizabeth ( Savoy ) McGilvary. She moved to
Kansas in 1992 and has been a resident of Arma for the past 17 years.

Joanne married Rene Roy on April 30, 1965 ; he survives at the
home.

While living in Massachusetts Joanne worked for Analog Devices.
When she moved to the SEK area she worked as a CNA and CMA for
several local nursing facilities.

She was a member of the St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church in Arma,
the Arma American Legion Auxiliary, the Eagles Lodge and a member of
the Golden Era.

Survivors include her husband Rene of the home; a son Randy
Roy of Pace, FL; two daughters Michelle Camp of Arma, Darlene Claffey
of Arma; a brother James A. McGilvary Jr. of Arma , KS ; 15
grandchildren and 2 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her parents and a sister Mary McKinley.

Viewing and visitation services will be 11 a .m. Monday January
10th at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Father Lawrence
Carney officiating. The family will receive friends following the services.
A reception will be held following the visitation services at the Golden
Era Community Building in Arma. Private family graveside memorial
services will be Tuesday January 11th at the Garden of Memories
Cemetery in Pittsburg with Father Lawrence Carney officiating. Friends
and family are requested to meet at the cemetery. Condolences can be

Lois May Maddox, 85 of Girard, passed away December 30, 2010 at the
Girard Medical Center.
She was born November 16, 1925 in Kansas City, KS the daughter of
Roy Albert and Edith Dale (LaMunyon) Thurman.
On June 3, 1950 she was united in marriage to Jake Maddox, Jr. in Iola,
KS; he preceded her in death on February 5, 1994.
Lois was a homemaker and also worked a short time for an airplane
manufacturing company in Wichita. Church membership was held in the
Christian Church, she was also a member of AARP.
Survivors include a daughter Linda Hudson of Girard, three brothers
Fern Thurman of Arkansas City, KS, Louis Ray Thurman of Lenexa, KS,
Jim Thurman of Wichita, KS, two grandchildren Larry Hudson, Jr. of
Australia and Dee Dee Hudson of Basehor, KS along with three great
grandchildren Jake, Tristan and Kaylyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers
Everett, Earl, Floyd, Lloyd, Melvin and Jim Thurman, three sisters Helen
Marie(infant), Darlene Wheeler and Thelma Rhodes.
Graveside services will be 11 am, Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the
Pleasant ViewCemeterywith Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Family
will receive friends at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir beginning at
10 am Tuesday until the procession leaves for the cemetery.

Lisa Marie Harvey, 36 of Pittsburg died at 12:45 a.m. Friday
December 24, 2010 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg following a
lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born February 3, 1974 in Pittsburg , KS the daughter of
Raymond Eugene and Donna Sue (Fletcher) Bunney. She was a
lifetime resident of Pittsburg .

Lisa married Kevin Harvey on February 14, 1992 in Arma , KS ; he
survives at the home.

She was a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle in Pittsburg .

Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter Sabrina
Harvey and a son Kevin Harvey Jr. both of Pittsburg ; her mother and
two brothers Raymond Bunney Jr. and Kenny Clark both of Pittsburg .
She was preceded in death by her father, maternal and paternal
grandparents, aunts and an uncle.

According to her wishes Lisa has been taken for cremation.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday January 12, 2011 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Reverend Daryl Gaddy

Mildred J. Baker, 88 of Carl Junction, MO passed away Saturday
Afternoon at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO.

She was born February 27, 1923 in Pittsburg, KS, the daughter of
Thomas Patrick and Josephine Kelly. Mildred graduated from St. Mary’s
High School in 1940. In 1992 she married J.T. Baker who preceded her
in death in 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnye Hill and husband Larry. 3
grandchildren; Quentyn Ensor; Mitse Lassiter and husband Bryce; and
Kelly Lundien Greer and husband Eric. 5 Great-Grandchildren, Bailee
and Brock Lassiter; Dylan Worley; Dillon and Sophie Greer. She was
preceded in death by her daughter, Terri Lynne Collins.

Graveside Memorial Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 29,
2011 at Highland ParkCemeteryin Pittsburg with Father Tom Stroot
officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday, October 28, 2011 at
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg where friends may come by to
sign the guest book and visit with the family. Condolences can be
