Carolyn Sue Burns, 65, of Cherokee, KS, went to be with the Lord
Saturday March 17, 2012.

She was born July 20, 1946 in Miami, OK to A. Leon and Gladys Rose
Presley. She married Robert “Joe” Burns on June 3, 1972 in Beulah,
KS.

Carolyn worked at the Parsons Ammunition Plant from 1964 to 1972,
Mt. Carmel Hospital from 1988 to 2002 and was the owner/operator of
the Home Café in Cherokee from 1983 to 2004.

She lived a life filled with love and is survived by her husband of the
home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Heather Burns of
Cherokee; a daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Raja Kumar of
Pittsburg; four grandchildren, Sarah, Victoria, Alicyn and Reuben; two
sisters Deborah Strukel of Mulberry, KS and Cheryl Cowan of Ft. Smith,
AR; one brother, David Presley of Poplar Bluff, MO and many brothers
and sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces.

Carolyn was a devoted member of the Cherokee United Methodist
Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and church
treasurer. She was active in the Senior Citizens organization, Ruritan,
TOPPS and Cherokee homecoming committee. She will be sadly
missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held in honor of Carolyn at the Cherokee
United Methodist Church, 309 W. Magnolia, Cherokee, KS on Saturday,
March 24, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Reverend Bob E. Banks officiating.

Mary L. Cash 82, of Pittsburg, KS died 12:20am Saturday March 17,
2012 at Specialty Hospital in Springfield, MO following a long illness.
Mary was born March 21, 1929 in Poteau, OK the daughter of Arthur
and Hazel (Trantham) Dorey. Mary has lived in this community since
1959. On August 30, 1950 she married Thomas Cash in Harrison, AR;
he survives at the home. Mary in her younger years worked as a
Nurses Aide for area nursing homes but was more widely known as a
devoted, loving, and nurturing housewife. She was a member of the
Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Pittsburg, KS for many years and
enjoyed bird watching, gardening and most of all her family.
Survivors include her children Jimmy Lawrence and wife Terry of Ozark,
MO, Thomas Cash and wife Elaine of Cedar Park, TX and Jerry Cash
and wife Wanapa of Sparks, NV; siblings Helen Dillard of Mountain
Home, AR, Arthur Dorey Jr. “Bud” and wife Laura of Rogers, AR,
Maxine Seigle and husband Bob of Wichita, KS, Charles Dorey and wife
Connie of Pea Ridge, AR, Geraldine Nickel and husband Dean of
Joplin, MO and Paul Dorey and wife Linda of Monte Ne, AR; 12
grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Evelyn Woods,
Rosalie Browning and Frances Dillard.
Funeral Services will be 2pm Wednesday March 21, 2012 at the
Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Pittsburg, KS with Rev. Daryl Gaddy
officiating. Burial will follow at the Frontenac CityCemeteryin
Frontenac, KS. Family will receive friends from 1-2pm prior to the
service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of
sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Lighthouse Tabernacle
Church in Pittsburg, KS. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to
Bath Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg, KS. E-mail

James L. “Jim” Cashero, 70 of Pittsburg died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday
March 17, 2012 at his home in Pittsburg .

He was born January 4, 1942 in Pittsburg , KS the son of James
and Leona (Regard) Cashero. He was a lifetime resident of the
Pittsburg area. He was a graduate of West Mineral High School.

Jim served his country in the United States Navy during the
Vietnam Era.

He married Mary E. Habjan on August 29, 1970 in Pittsburg, KS;
she survives at the home.

Jim worked as a guard for the Lansing State Prison from 1972 until
1981; he then worked for Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and then
worked and retired from Ruskin’s Manufacturing in Parsons.

He was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in
Pittsburg; Parsons Knights of Columbus where he held 4th degree title,
the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64 in Pittsburg, the Parsons
VFW and Eagles.

Survivors include his wife Mary of the home; 2 daughters Roberta
Rader of Iowa, Teresa Jones of Parsons; 5 sons John Cashero of
Shawnee, Mark and Tim Cashero both of Pittsburg, Mike Cashero of
Parsons, William Cashero of Thayer; a brother Dennis Cashero of
Pittsburg and 9 Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
parents and a son Dennis Cashero in 2009.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday March 21,
2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father
Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Fort Scott National
Cemetery. The Navy Funeral Honors Detail Team will provide flag
folding and presentation ceremonies. The parish rosary will be recited
at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg where
the family will receive friends following until 7:30 p.m. Condolences can

the St. Mary’s/Colgan Booster Club. Memorials may be brought by or

Edward C. Reynolds Jr. 67, of Scammon, KS died 10:15pm Friday
March 16, 2012 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS following a long
illness.
Edward was born December 21, 1944 in Scammon, KS the son of
Edward C. and Anna (Adamson) Reynolds. He was a lifelong resident
of the area and a graduate of Southeast High School. He was a
Veteran of the Army and worked Goodrich Tire Company as a Tire
Builder in Miami, OK for 18 years before it closed. Edward was of the
Christian Faith and a member of the Columbus American Legion and
Columbus VFW. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and
gardening.
Survivors include his step-son John Wiseman and wife Felicia of West
Mineral, KS; children Curtis Reynolds and Renee Reynolds; brothers
Robert Reynolds and wife Joan of Orange, TX and Bill Reynolds and
wife Betty of Miami, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Donna Nichols
and Shirley Westervelt.
Private Graveside Services will take place at Hosey HillCemeteryin
Weir, KS. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be
in the form of memorials to SEK Humane Society. E-mail condolences

Merdith Marie Becker, 77 of Pittsburg died 5:30 p.m. Wednesday
March 14, 2012 at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born October 1, 1934 in Mulberry, KS the daughter of
Walter Byron Sr. and Ruby Irene (Burke) Hamilton.

Merdith received her G.E.D. from High School and then received
her vocational degree in cosmetology from Kansas State Teachers
College .

She married Marvin Becker on May 22, 1986 in Miami, OK; he
survives at the home.

Merdith was a cosmetologist. She attended Shepherds Chapel in
Gravette, AR.

Survivors include her husband Marvin of the home; 3 daughters
Lynn Million and husband Ron of Pittsburg, Shelley Swartz and
husband Rick of Grove, OK, Celeste Baker and husband Ray of
Pittsburg; 2 sons James Shelton and Topeka and Frank Messer of
Pittsburg; 2 step-sons Dennis Becker of Pittsburg, Travis Becker of
Riverton; a step-daughter Melinda Becker of Pittsburg; 3 brothers
Raymond Hamilton and wife Sue of Sumter, S.C., Glenn Hamilton and
wife Joan of Pittsburg, M.T. “Pete” Hamilton of Matacoff, TX; 3 sisters-
Evelyn Stevens and husband Bill of Tybee, GA, Leona Teague and
husband Burns, Ulela Baker all of Hutchinson; Grandchildren
Stephanie, Stacy and Ryan Million, Amy Swartz, Joseph Shelton, David
and Devin Lumley, Jessica and Cullen Messer; step-grandchildren
Steven and Michelle Baker, Zarah Lacey and Kaden Sullivan and 1
Great-grandchild Jacob Ryan Lumley. She was preceded in death by
her parents, 3 brothers Walter B. Hamilton Jr., C. Donald Hamilton,
Montee Aten and a sister Alice May.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday March 19, 2012 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Pastor Phil Hays officiating.
Burial will follow in the RosebankCemeteryin Mulberry, KS. The family
will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where
friends may call after noon on Sunday. Condolences can be sent to

Richard A. Echard 81 yrs. of age passed from this life on March 13th at
his home in Grove Okla.

Richard was born in Barberton, Ohio on Dec. 11th 1930.

He enlisted in the Navy when he was 18 serving in Korea and Vietnam
retiring after 20 years of service.

He married Francis Tippit on Feb. 2nd, 1956, she also served in the
Navy. Francis passed away on Aug. 31st, 1998. Richard later married
Gwen Schraad.

Richard was an active member of the eagles club serving as State
President and was also a member of the Elks and VFW of Grove Okla.

He is survived by two children Michael Echard of West Mineral, Kansas
and Cindy Moss of Joplin, Missouri; two sisters: Emma Hodgman of
Akron Ohio and Marilyn Gordon of Sunnyvale, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Irene Echard, a
brother Rodney Echard, three sisters: Betty Delouch, Barbara Walters,
and Dorothy Marrow.

Graveside services will be 11:00 am, Friday March 23rd, 2012 at
Greenlawn Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at the West Mineral
Eagles Club. Services are under the direction of the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home of Weir.

Justin Eakes, 32 of Galena , died unexpectedly Tuesday March 13,
2012 at the Freeman Hospital in Joplin.

He was born July 12, 1979 in Des Moines , IA the son of Raymond
and Denise Eakes. He was a 1997 graduate of Riverton High School.
Justin did contractor carpentry and welding work.

Survivors include 2 sons Christopher Blaine Durbin-Eakes of
Quapaw, OK; Chase Justin Eakes of Galena, KS; his parents Raymond
and Denise Eakes of Galena, KS and a brother Jeremy Ryan Eakes of
Des Moines, IA.

According to family wishes Justin has been taken for cremation.
Services will be at a later date. Condolences can be sent to
www.bathnaylor.com Arrangements are under the direction of the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 611 S. East Ave. Columbus, KS.
