John Ronald Gallagher 65, of Pittsburg, KS died 2:08 P.M. Saturday
March 3, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Pittsburg, KS following an
illness.
John Ronald was born August 21, 1946 in Pittsburg, KS the son of John
Michael. and Doris Maxine (Daniels) Gallagher. He was a lifelong
resident of the area and attended St. Mary’s and Colgan High School.
John was of the Catholic Faith and enjoyed writing, poetry and short
stories.
Survivors include siblings Denis Sean Gallagher of South Coffeyville,
OK and James Daniel Gallagher of Clarksville, AR; nieces and nephews
Michael Sean Gallagher, Leif Sean Gallagher, Devin James Gallagher,
Ryan Jarome McCullough and Misty Dawn Gallagher.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Terrance Michael
Gallagher.
Memorial Services will be 1 P.M. Tuesday March 13, 2012 at the Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS with Brother James Daniel

Kimberly Kay Kennard, 50, born February 12, 1962; died Sunday
February 26, 2012 in Pittsburg, KS formerly of Wichita, KS.
She was preceded in death by her father Kenneth K. Kennard
and her mother Joyce T. Kennard. She is survived by her son Kamern
K. Kennard.
Celebration of life memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. In lieu of flowers the family

Barbara I. McCormick, 58 of Columbus died at 3:10 pm, Friday,
February 24, 2012 at the Freeman Hospital.
She was born December 1, 1953 in rural Altamont, KS the daughter of
Walter and LaVerna (Foster) Nading.
On July 11, 1975 she was united in marriage to Tom McCormick in
Oswego, KS; he survives her of the home.
Barbara was a CNA at Medicalodge in Columbus. She was a member
of the Assembly of God Church in Columbus and a member of AARP.
Additional survivors include a son Thomas George McCormick, Jr. of
Pittsburg, a brother Bob Nading of Welch, OK, 2 sisters: Joyce Bryant
of Oswego, KS and June Cooley of Freemont, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Memorial services will be 2pm, Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the
Assembly of God Church in Columbus. Condolences may be left at

Mary Captola Alexander, 94 years old of Pittsburg, KS passed away at
9:55 am, Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Via Christi Hospital in
Pittsburg, surrounded by her family. She was a residence at Sunset
Manor of Frontenac.
She was born April 8, 1917 in Carthage, MO, the daughter of Marshall
Smith and Willie Ann Pugh Smith. Mary was united in marriage to
Joseph Leroy Alexander on June 4, 1938,in Carthage, MO. She was
employed for 12 years at Annshires Garment Factory and 14 years at
Kansas Army Ammunition Plant. She was a member of the Opolis
Christian Church and the First Baptist Church of Columbus. She was a
member of AARP and the Senior Citizens of Pittsburg. She loved to
travel and spending time with her family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers
Louis Smith, William “Bud” Smith, Sam Smith, Roy Smith, and Bill Smith;
her granddaughter Carla Alexander; and a great-great granddaughter
Stephanie Lindsay. She is survived by her daughter Joan Wydick, son
Don Alexander, and son Milt Alexander and wife Lana Alexander;17
grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 25 great-great grandchildren;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 27,2012
at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Pittsburg with Aaron Williams
officiating. Burial will follow at Blackjack Cemetery. Visitation will be

George W. Tretbar Jr. 87, of Pittsburg, KS died 9:17am Sunday
February 19, 2012 at his home following an illness.
George was born July 23, 1924 in Neosho, MO the son of George W.
Sr and Carlie Mae (Bowman) Tretbar. He has been a resident Pittsburg
since 1945 and was a graduate of Neosho, MO High School. He was a
veteran of WWII serving in the Coast Guard. After the war he went to
PSU and received training in Air Conditioning. On January 17, 1955
George married
Vivian Shireman in Pittsburg, KS; she preceded him in
death on May 24, 2011. George worked at Malle Service Station in
Pittsburg, KS for 43 years retiring in 1989. He was a member of the
Grace Methodist Church in Pittsburg, KS; a lifetime member of Pittsburg
American Legion Post #64; VFW Post #1158 and in his free time
enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his daughter Penny Johnson and husband Stewart;
grandchildren Sarita Hatfield, Brandie Briener and Michael Carpenter;
great-grandchildren Tyler Hatfield, Sierra Hatfield, Savannah Carpenter
and Brayden Tassi; and one niece and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother Lealand
Tretbar.
Funeral Services will be 10am Thursday February 23, 2012 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS with Chaplain Bud Clapp
officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland ParkCemeteryin Pittsburg,
KS where military honors will be conducted. Family will receive friends

Verna E. Simmons 93, of Pittsburg, KS died 2:40 pm Monday February
13, 2012 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS following an illness.
Verna was born September 6, 1918 in Alanthus, MO the daughter of
John and Lulu (Jennings) Boatwright. She lived most of her adult life in
Gladstone, MO and was a graduate of Stanberry High School in
Stanberry, MO.
On August 29, 1937 Verna married
Herschel “Shorty” Simmons in
Kansas City, MO; he preceded her in death in 1991.
Verna worked at Security National Bank in Kansas City, KS in the
Safety Deposit Department for 20 years. She was a member of the
Hillside Christian Church in Gladstone, MO; a one time president of the
Safety Deposit Organization for Kansas and Missouri; 50 year member
of the Raggedy Anne Club; enjoyed traveling to Europe and Asia in the
Camera and Adventurers Club; ran a gas station with her husband in
Rea, MO and family was the most important treasure in her life.
Survivors include her daughter Elizabeth Ann Willis of Pittsburg, KS;
siblings John Boatwright, Ruby Audeen Gregory and Jerry Boatwright;
grandchildren Michael Willis and wife Marlene of Pittsburg, KS and Brad
Willis and wife Dorothy of Edmond, OK; great-grandchildren Mackenzie,
Duncan, Madelyn and Garrett Willis and numerous nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings Ila
Motzkus, Marvin Boatwright and Leland Boatwright and son-in-law
Roger Willis.
Memorial Services will be 2 pm Saturday February 18, 2012 at the Bath
Naylor Funeral Home of Pittsburg, KS with Rev. Aric Bokker officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date in High RidgeCemeteryin
Stanberry, MO. Family will receive friends from 1-2 pm Saturday prior

Martha Lee Stephenson, 58 of Pittsburg, died on February 6, 2012 at
the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.
She was born February 16, 1953 in Pittsburg the daughter of Arnold
Martin Seaman and Wanda Lee (Ashley) Bodelle, and her step-father
Lorin Bodelle.
She was a homemaker and lifetime resident of Pittsburg.
She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church
Survivors include 3 daughters: Tressie Dawn Stephenson of Frontenac,
Jenny Stephenson of Girard and Amy Puffinbarger also of Girard, 2
sisters: Linda Kay Voth of Moore, OK, Donna Herman of Pittsburg and
a brother Carl Seaman of Pittsburg along with 8 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Billy Ray
Stephenson, Jr., 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be 2pm, Monday, February 13, 2012 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Highland Park
