Don R. Hadlock, 95 of Cherokee, KS died at 4:15 am, Saturday,
September 22, 2012 at his home.
He was born September 4, 1917 in Cherokee the son of Nova Scotia
and Annie Ingram (Gore) Hadlock.
On January 11, 1947 he was united in marriage to Imohl Craig in
Newton, KS, she survives him of the home.
He was a veteran of WWII joining the Army Air Corp in October of 1942
and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lt. in 1945.
Don worked for Bendix Corp in Kansas City, MO for 25 years as a
production supervisor, retiring in 1978. He moved back to Cherokee in
1980.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cherokee and St.
Peter’s Episcopal Church in Pittsburg, additional memberships and
honors were the Cherokee Blue Lodge #119, AF & AM, Royal Arch
Masons, Silver Trowel Council Cryptic Mason, O.E.S., Red Cross of
Constantine , Knight York Cross of Honor, Order of the Silver Trowel,
Order of the Anointed High Priests, Consistory Valley of Ft. Scott, Past
member of the Ruitan of Cherokee and the Mirza Shrine.
Additional survivors include two sons: David L. Hadlock and wife Carol
of Lee’s Summit, MO and Noel Rakestraw and wife Janice of Cherokee;
seven grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and four great-great
grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Donna I. Hadlock,
two sisters: Edith McFarland and Hazel Gillis, a brother Novie Hadlock,
an infant sister and infant brother.
Services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Weir with Fr. Bill Wolff officiating. Family will receive
friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm Tuesday evening.

Melvin C. Vineyard, 87, loving husband, father and grandfather, of
Pittsburg, KS went home to be with the Lord on September 13, 2012 at
Medicalodge South in Pittsburg where he had been under care for the
past several years.
Melvin was born in Waldo , KS ( Russell County ) on March 13,
1925 the son of Charles and Marie (Gillenwater) Vineyard. After
graduating from Weir High School , Melvin joined the Navy.
On July 18, 1950 he married
Hazel Bowman at the Weir Baptist
Church . She preceded him in death on January 2, 2012.
Melvin worked as a farmer most of his life. He also worked for
the City of Pittsburg at the cab and bus station, as well as Standard
Gas Station.
Survivors include daughters Gloria (Gene) Baldwin; Melody
(David) Howerton; son Wayne (Sherry) Vineyard; seven grandchildren
2 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 5 step-great
grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother Jay Vineyard and
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by
his parents and one sister Joyce Coles.
After cremation the family will conclude with graveside services at
1 p.m. Monday September 17, 2012 at the BirdCemeterysouth of
Pittsburg with Reverend James Shope officiating. The Pittsburg
American Legion Post #64 will provide flag presentation ceremonies.

Richard W. Bellamy, 71, of Frontenac, Kansas passed away Tuesday,
September 4, 2012 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He was
born July 1, 1941 in Pittsburg, the son of Cecil W. and Ruby M.
(Hughes) Bellamy. Richard was a lifelong resident of Crawford County.
He married
Betty J. (Warford) Bellamy on December 3, 1960 at St. John’
s Lutheran Church in Pittsburg. They shared 51 years of marriage
together. Richard was a coal miner at the Clemens Coal Company,
where he worked as a dragline operator. He retired in 1996 after 28
years. Survivors include his wife Betty of the home; one son, Roger
Bellamy and wife Peggy of Joplin; one daughter, Shari Miller and
husband Hal of Frontenac; four grandchildren, Payden Miller and wife
Jamee of Lawrence; Toni West of Pittsburg; and Ryan W. and Lindsey
Grace Bellamy, both of Joplin. He was preceded in death by his
parents.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, September 7, 2012
at Mt. OliveCemeteryin Pittsburg, with Reverend Tom Wehrman

Mary Louise Reda 97, of Leawood, KS died 9:30am Thursday August
30, 2012 at Delmar Gardens Nursing Home in Overland Park, KS
following an illness.
Mary was born September 15, 1914 in Fleming, KS the daughter of
Jacob and Apolonia (Peterlin) Cukjati. Mary was one of 7 children born
and raised in Arma, KS. Her brothers Joe, Jack, John, August (Gus),
Frank and one sister Frances (Fannie) Karlinger all preceded her in
death.
Mary married
the love of her life Sam Reda on November 24, 1938 in
Scammon, KS; he preceded her in death on August 30, 1970. They
were long time residents of Cherokee, KS. After her husband’s death
Mary lived and worked in Pittsburg, KS until she moved to Overland
Park, KS. Mary was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-
Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter Gloria and husband Jim Saar formally
of Pittsburg, KS and presently of Stillwater, OK; oldest son Sam and
wife Barbara Dixon Reda formally of Pittsburg, KS and presently living
in Miramar Beach, FL; youngest son Jack and wife Karen Cutshall Reda
formally of Weir, KS presently living in Leawood, KS; as well as six
grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild
and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1pm Tuesday September 4, 2012 at the
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, KS with Fr. Mike
Baldwin as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Highland ParkCemeteryin
Pittsburg, KS. Rosary will be recited at 11am Tuesday prior to the
service at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS. In lieu of
flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of

Jim E. Newswander, 47 of Cherokee died suddenly at his home in
Cherokee on Monday August 27, 2012.
He was born January 23, 1965 in Aledo, IL the son of Harold
Edward and Nedra (Roderick) Newswander.
Jim was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
He is survived by his family. He was preceded in death by his
father.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday August 31, 2012 at the
Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 4005 Parkview Dr. Pittsburg

Anna Nadine Dugger Johnston went to Heaven at 6:08 PM August 25,
2012. She was born June 3, 1918 in McDonald County Missouri. Her
parents were Sarah Alta Rosencrantz Dugger and John Edward
Dugger. She attended Alta Vista Elementary School, Lamar, Colorado.
She married
Paul M. Johnston August 29, 1933 in Syracuse, Kansas.
They had three children: Lawrence E. Johnston, Robert James
Johnston and Wanda June Johnston Essig.
Ann and her three children returned to her family home near Weir,
Kansas in March of 1946. Her parents cared for the children while Ann
worked as a waitress at the Coney Island and later Jim’s Stake House to
pay her way through the Pittsburg School of Cosmetology. She
graduated in 1948. After completing beauty school she purchased her
own business the Modern Beauty Shop which she operated from 1948
until 1961. While operating the beauty shop she moved her family to
Pittsburg in 1950 and made Pittsburg their home. After several years as
a beautician Ann earned her GED from American School of Chicago, IL.
She then worked for the Campbell 66 Express Company and
Hangman's Wholesale Company until she retired. During her retirement
she spent many hours quilting and doing genealogical research. She
also played the violin and piano.
She became a member of the Trinity Southern Baptist Church in 1953.
This was her home church the remainder of her life.
Survivors include her children Lawrence E. Johnston and wife Elaine,
Stockton, Missouri; Robert J. Johnston, Neosho, Missouri; Wanda J.
Johnston Essig and husband Sonny, Buckner, Missouri. Her Grand
children, David Essig and wife Lisa; Denise Marie Essig Spivey and
husband Lee; Dale Elkins and wife Pam, Stockton, Missouri. And eight
great grand children. She was preceded in death by her parents and
husband.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Pastor Mike Hart officiating.
Burial will follow at Old Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will at 1 p.m.
