Robert Dean Toney 58, of West Mineral, KS died 8am Wednesday
June 20, 2012 at his home following an illness. Memorial Services will
take place at a later date. Arrangements are by Bath-Naylor Funeral

Virginia (Madison) Potocnik, 85 of Cherokee, KS died Sunday, June 17,
2012 at the Neosho Regional Medical Center in Chanute, KS.
She was born April 14, 1927 in Cherokee, KS the daughter of Mary
(Garretson) Kellogg.
On March 4, 1944 she was united in marriage to Rudy Potocnik, Sr.; he
preceded her in death on October 6, 1996.
She was an assistant cook at the Cherokee Grade School for 40 years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cherokee, where she
was very active. She loved yard work and was a skilled quilter. She
enjoyed time spent with her family, grandchildren and church family,
especially the time she spent fishing with her husband Rudy.
Survivors include two sons: Rudy Potocnik, Jr. and wife Linda of
Chanute, KS, and James Lee Potocnik and wife Katie of Altamont, KS; a
sister Betty Serra of Capaldo, KS; eight Grandchildren and 14 great
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Bobby Potocnik, two
sisters: Fern Traylor and Hazel Altum, and a brother Junior Madison.
Funeral services will be 10 am, Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Rev. Jamie Tickel officiating.
Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery. Family will receive
friends at the funeral home from 6-7 pm Tuesday. Condolences may

James Louis Brisbin, 89, a Veteran of World War II, went to be with his
Lord and Savior on June 14th. He was born on August 4th, 1922 in
Greenbush Kansas. He was proceded in death by his beloved wife,
Delores (Dee Dee), a daughter, Diana Brisbin, a granddaughter,
Theresa Brisbin and a grandson, Jeffery Simpson.
He is survived by four sons, Jim Brisbin(Vicky), Cherokee KS, Pete
Brisbin(Sherry), Pleasant Hill MO, John Brisbin(Lisa), Bates City MO,
and Daniel Brisbin Independence MO, five daughters, Kathy Sims Grain
Valley MO., Judy Wilkerson (Larry), Lee’s Summit MO, Debbie Brisbin,
Independence MO, Jeanne Boston (Robert) Kansas City MO and Carol
Simpson (Jeff), Blue Springs MO, 21 grandchildren and 31 great-
grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brisbin served his Country during WWII in Normandy, Northern
France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the
Fame Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, The Good Conduct Medal,
Marksmanship and the World War II Victory Medal. He married
the love
of his life, Delores on October 11, 1946.
He was a proud, courageous, man who made everyone laugh and
always had time to stop and help anyone who needed him. He loved the
Lord with all his heart and taught his ten children to do the same.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 18, 2012 at Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Pastor Jamie Tickel officiating. Burial
will follow at the Cherokee County Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 P.

Luke Wenzl, 75 of Pittsburg, Kansas passed away June 14, 2012 at St.
Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born July 11, 1936 in
Tecumseh, Nebraska, the son of Leo P. and Christine E. (Christen)
Wenzl. Luke attended St. Anthony’s Church/School in Steinauer,
Nebraska, Maur Hill Prep School and Benedictine College in Atchison,
Kansas. He studied art education at Emporia State University and
Pittsburg State University.
Luke was a member of St. Benedict’s Abbey in Atchison from 1963-
1975. He served St. Benedict’s Parish from 1963-1965 and as a
Benedictine Missionary in Brazil from 1965-1968. While in Brazil, he
was injured in a car accident, which left him paraplegic. After returning
to the states for rehabilitation, he began art studies and became an
instructor at Maur Hill Prep School.
In 1975 he moved to the Pittsburg area and opened the Stone and
Silver shop at 4th & Rouse, which provided custom-made silver jewelry.
He continued in the arts as an instructor at Colgan-St Mary’s High
School through 2000. He loved “his non-singing canaries”.
His life was extended in 2007 as a recipient of a kidney transplant,
a true gift of love from his own live donor.
True to who he was, he continued his mission spirit through the
ministry of the disabled for the Wichita Diocese/Camp Holy Family/and
Faith and Light for Persons with Disabilities. For over 20 years he and
Joanne were foster parents to many children in southeast Kansas.
Mr. Wenzl was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, and the
Knights of Columbus in Pittsburg. Luke had several hobbies, including:
gardening, bird watching, cooking and wine making.
Luke was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Ann
Wagner and his brother, Paul Wenzl He is survived by his wife of 34
years, Joanne Wenzl, his sister, Bernice Beals, and brothers, Louis,
James, Leo, Donald, David and Tony Wenzl. He was loved by each
member of the Wenzl and Luppino families. His legacy of acceptance
and perseverance will live on.
Funeral Services will be 3:00 P.M., Monday, June 18, 2012 at Our
Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 P.M.
Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home. Family will
receive friends following the Rosary until 8:00 P.M.
Inurnment will be in Pueblo, Colorado. Memorials may be made to the
Knights of Columbus-Building Fund, Pittsburg, Kansas/ St. Benedict’s

Matthew Edward Bass 23, of Pittsburg, KS died 4:00am Sunday June
10, 2012 in a car accident east of Pittsburg, KS.
Matthew was born November 29, 1988 in Mannheim, Germany to
Timmy G. and Gerianne Marie (Rodgers) Bass. He settled in this area
after his father retired from the United States Army and was a Graduate
of Pittsburg High School in 2007. He went to Weir schools from
kindergarten to the 7th grade and started in Pittsburg Schools in the
8th grade. Matthew played Football, Baseball and Tennis and later
found his love for music by picking up the guitar. He later played in
several bands of his friends and hoped to one day become a star. He
fathered a son London Cole Bass with Brooklyn Westoff. He loved and
cherished his son and was active in his life. He worked in construction
after high school and later found a nitch working for Miller’s
Professional Imaging as a Printer. He will be most remembered as an
outgoing young man who loved life and cherished his Lord and Savior.
He was a member of the Potters House Christian Fellowship.
Survivors include his son London Cole Bass of Pittsburg, KS; his
parents; sister Crystal Blesie and husband James of Kansas City, KS;
maternal grandmother Isabel Rodgers of Wynona, OK; nephews Dylan
and Aiden Blesie and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Betty and
Johnnie Bass, maternal grandfather Edward Rodgers and maternal
aunt Christine Fudge.
Funeral Services will be 11am Saturday June 16, 2012 at the Bath
Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS with Pastor David Johnson
officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland ParkCemeteryin Pittsburg,
KS. Family will receive friends from 7-8pm Friday June 15, 2012 at the
Bath Naylor Funeral Home; friend may call after 11am Friday. In lieu of
flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of

Mary Beatrice (Fudge) Sandella, 89, of Columbus, died at 2:30 P.M.
Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Mercy Maude Norton Hospital following a
long illness
She was born October 27, 1922, to Floyd and Irma (Baum) Fudge in
Weir, KS. She attended Weir schools and graduated from Weir High
School in 1940.
On October 26, 1944, she was united in marriage to Tony Sandella at
St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS. He preceded her in
death June 18, 2007.
Mary worked at the ration office in Columbus during WWII where she
met her future husband. She later worked for Adam's 5 & 10 and J.C.
Penney until she retired when the
store closed.
She was a member of Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego, KS
Survivors include three daughters, Lucille McNemar and her husband
Evan of Columbus. Toni Marie Wilkinson and her husband Morris of
Springfield, MO and Sharon Corgan
and her husband Craig of Yukon, OK., a sister Doris Veatch of Topeka,
K.S, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Mildred Larsen-
Jones. Erma Mae Lauderdale. Lois Pesek and Martha Lucille Fudge
and a granddaughter, Jennifer McNemar,
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at
Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego with Father Larry Parker as
Celebrant. Burial will follow at ParkCemeteryin Columbus.
Parish Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Columbus.
The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00 P.M.
