HOWARD BROWN

Howard H. Brown, 91, Ottawa, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

He was born Oct. 16, 1915, at Bloomington Springs, Tenn., to Morgan and Bertie (Shoemake) Brown.

He graduated from the Putnam County High School in 1937.

He served during World War II as technical sergeant in Company "A" 254th Infantry of the United States Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star in the European Theatre of Operations. He continued his service in the Army Reserve at the rank of lieutenant.

After the war he returned home to help his parents on the family farm.

He also worked for Phillips Petroleum Refinery, Kansas City, Kan., as a controlman until 1954. He owned and operated a service station at 34th and State Line in Kansas City, Kan., and later in Gardner. He owned and operated Oak Hill Auto Sales, Warsaw, Mo.

He married Bernice "Mickey" L. Brown April 5, 1948, in Rossville, Georgia. They shared more than 58 years of marriage. She survives.

He previously lived in Kansas City, Kan.; Wellsville from 1962 to 1979; Warsaw, Mo.; and Ottawa since 1988.

He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Ottawa, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wellsville.

Survivors include daughters, Peggy Brown, Ottawa; and Susan Trendel and her husband Jim, Ottawa; sons, Michael Brown and his wife Jill, Emporia; and Paul Brown and his fiancee Deanna, Wellsville; a brother, Roy Brown, and his wife Judy, Gallatin, Tenn.; a sister, Geneva Hill of Wilmington, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Emily Hillman and her husband Ben, Kansas City, Mo.; Rachel Jibai and her husband Jason, Lawrence; Ashley, Christopher and Jacob Brown, all of Emporia; Alisha, Taylor and Tyler Brown, all of Parker; a step-grandson, Kyle Trendel and his wife Gretchen, Baldwin City; a step-granddaughter, Rachel Burgio, Utah; a great-grandson, Tristan Burgio, Utah; and two step-great-grandchildren, Addy and Gracie Trendel, Baldwin City.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Arnold and Colus Brown, and a sister, Una Mabry.

The family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa.

MADELINE M. BAUMGARDNER

WAVERLY -- Madeline M. Baumgardner, 94, Waverly died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at Sunset Manor, Waverly. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Waverly United Methodist Church.

She was born March 8, 1912, at Burlingame to Frank and Clare Imen Turvey.

She worked at the Waverly Gazette newspaper.

Survivors include two nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Burial will be at Waverly Cemetery.

Family will meet with friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the Waverly United Methodist Church.

ELEANOR E. BUNDY

Eleanor E. (Michael) Bundy, 92, Ottawa died Thursday, Oct. 19. 2006, at the Ottawa Village Manor.

She was born April 3, 1914, at Waverly to R.C. and Hattie (Alexander) Michael.

She graduated from Waverly High School in 1932.

She was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, Ottawa.

She married Randolph M. Bundy Jan. 10, 1940, at Ottawa. They shared more than 53 years of marriage before he died Feb. 3, 1993.

Survivors include daughters, Sandra Edmonds and her husband, Melvin, Pomona, and Marilyn Gangwish and her husband, Nick, Arvada, Colo.; grandchildren, Jeff Brewer and his wife, Christina, Randy Brewer and his wife, Valerie, Kevin Brewer and his wife, Debbie, Chris Brewer and his wife, Cyndi, Tim Gangwish and his wife, Denise, Kim and Chris Gangwish; 14 great-grandchildren, Damien, Jonny, Dalen, Braedon, Tanner, Casey, Jacob, Eric, Hannah, Hayley, Jerica, Tori, Allie and Stephanie; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Vincent and Gaylon Michael; and sisters, Irene Craig and Marie Robbins.

Burial will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Friends may pay their respects from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Westminister Presbyterian Church, Ottawa.

SYLVA I. SCOTT

Sylva I. Scott, 87, Ottawa, formerly of Osawatomie, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at the Ransom Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wilson & Son Funeral Home-Paola Chapel.

Burial will be at Cadmus Cemetery. Friends may call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Wilson & Son Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola KS 66071.

Sylva was born April 30, 1919, in Checotah, Okla., to William and Sara Edith (Wright) Chamberlain. She grew up in LaCygne and attended school in Linn County.

In the early 1940s, Sylva moved to New York City and was employed at the Endicott Shoe Factory. It was there she met her future husband William Scott.

They were united in marriage May 20, 1944, in New York. After their marriage, they lived in New York before they moved to the Osawatomie area to make their home and raise their children.

Sylva waitressed at the B & M Cafe in Paola and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Osawatomie before joining the Church of the Nazarene in 1994. Sylva took great enjoyment in her church which was a great source of inspiration to her. She enjoyed her church activities, working puzzles, knitting, crocheting and playing the piano at church services.

She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband William; one sister, Florence Chamberlain; two brothers, William Chamberlain and John Chamberlain; one infant sister; and a great-granddaughter, Jeanie Pearl Freeman.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Howard Scott, Goose Creek, S.C., Rosetta Croan, Scranton, Leonard Scott, Osawatomie, Vernon Scott, Kansas City, Verlyn Scott, Paola, and Milton Scott, Ottawa; one sister-in-law, Mildred Chamberlain, Osawatomie; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, all who will miss her deeply.

EVA SPENCER

GREELEY -- Eva Lucille Spencer, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe. Services will be 2 p.m., Friday, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapels, Garnett.

She was born Oct. 10, 1919, at Centerville to Thomas and Mable (Holloman) McCarty.

She was a homemaker.

She married Merle Wayne Spencer, June 15, 1946, at Centerville. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Gary Wayne Spencer, Greeley; a daughter, Sharon Ann Spencer, Lenexa; sisters, Betty Bilderback, Garnett, and Nadine Boydston, LaCygne; four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and one grandchild.

Burial will be at Greeley City Cemetery.

Friends may pay their respects from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Greeley United Methodist Church.
