Marjorie "Marge" Benjamin
May 30, 1919 - September 24, 2011

Wichita, Kansas - Benjamin, Marjorie L., 92, passed from this life on September 24, 2011. She was born in Arkansas City, KS on May 30, 1919. She was preceded in death by her loving husband and best friend of 55 years, David Benjamin and her younger brother, Jack Hadley. Marge was a graduate of Arkansas City High School in 1937 and in 1939 she received her Teaching Certificate. Marge & Dave were High School and College "sweethearts" and married in 1941. In 1942, they moved to Wichita and Marge spent a life time as a "super" Mom to her three children priding herself in organizing, planning and cooking for family gatherings and being cheerleader at all sporting events. She was active in the Wichita community serving as a PTA President; President of Wichita's Extension Homemakers Unit; active member of Wichita book and bridge clubs; served as Christian Women's Fellowship President and long time member of Riverside Christian Church where she served on the Worship Committee. Marge loved to watch sports and was a loyal supporter of North High, WSU and the Royals. She is survived by her brother Roy (Fran) Hadley of Huntington Beach, CA; her three children: John (Laura) Benjamin of Tulsa, OK; Tom (Candy) Benjamin and Jean (Bryan) Shields of Wichita, KS; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Marge lived for her family, friends and the laughs and joy they shared will always be remembered. A celebration of life will be held at Riverside Christian Church, 1001 Litchfield Avenue, Wichita, Kansas on September 29, 2011 at 10:00 am. A viewing and visitation for family and friends will be September 28, 6:00 – 7:30 pm at Lakeview Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marge's honor to Riverside Christian Church, Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.

RUBY L. CAMPBELL

Ruby L. Campbell, 80, Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 8, 2007, at home.

Ruby Louise Robison was born in Oswego, Kansas, on July 13, 1926 to John Henderson Robison and Anna Lois Livesay Robison. She was third of seven children and following high school in Oswego, attended Ottawa University.

While living in Ottawa, she worked at the Ottawa Sign Company, where she met Gardner Campbell and on Sept. 21, 1946, they were married in Oswego. Ruby worked part-time for Irwin's Gifts in the 1960s before going to work full-time for Buildex until her retirement.

They attended the First Baptist Church of Ottawa for 50 years. In Port Aransas, Texas, where they wintered for 25 years, the attended Community Presbyterian Church.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Gardner, on March 3, 2006. She is survived by their daughters, Celeste of Ottawa, and Cheryl and her husband, Jim Stegall, Port Aransas, Texas, and Alexandria, Virginia; grandsons Chris Stegall (Cathy) and Brandon Stegall (Susan), of Kansas City, Missouri, and 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including Tom Sink (Deborah) and Debbie Phillips (Bob), of Ottawa.

Ruby is survived by brother Rev. Roscoe and Nina Robison, Worcester, Massachusetts; sister-in-law Billie George Robison, Parsons, Kansas; brother Wilford and Marilyn Robison, Overland Park, Kansas; sister-in-law Earlene Robison, Edmond, Oklahoma; brother John and Sally Robison, Oswego, Kansas; and sister Roberta and Clifford Vance, Oswego. She was preceded in death by brothers Roland and Ray and nephew Gary Robison.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made by memorial donations to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 308, Ottawa, KS 66067, or the Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter, 230 W. 19th St., Ottawa, KS 66067.

LYLE RAYMOND 'BUTCH' DOTY

Lyle Raymond "Butch" Doty was born on Saturday, Feb. 6, 1954, in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of Jay Lyle Doty and Lois Edith (Mollett) Doty. A lifelong resident, Lyle made his home in Quenemo, Kansas, until his death on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at the age of fifty-three years.

He attended school in Quenemo. Lyle worked as a nurse's aide, for King Radio in Ottawa, in janitorial work, and as a chef.

Lyle was baptized in, and a member of, the former Quenemo Baptist Church.

He enjoyed watching westerns, listening to country music, playing cards, and camping. He was a self-taught musician of many instruments, his favorite being the accordion. He loved to cook and enjoyed Sunday dinners with family at the Doty homestead.

On August 30, 1975, Lyle was married to Ruth Ann Gooden in Nevada, Missouri, later divorcing. He resided in Quenemo with lifetime companion, Randy Endicott.

He is survived by his father; one son, Gregory Doty of Nevada, Missouri; two daughters, Sherri Hill of Milo, Missouri, and Rachel Woods of Sun Valley, Nevada; four sisters, Lois Standing Cloud and Leroy of Osage City, Brenda Hernandez and Gene of Ottawa, Katherine Watkins and Raymond of Ottawa, and Karla Doty and George Starbuck of Ottawa; three brothers, David Doty and Dorothy of Quenemo, Kevin Doty and Teresa of Quenemo, and Eric Doty and Casey of Pelia, Iowa; eight grandchildren; twenty-four nieces and nephews; twenty-four great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.

Memorial services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2007, with inurnment following at Oak HillCemeteryin Quenemo.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Lyle "Butch" Doty Memorial Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.

DREWCILLA CRAFT

Drewcilla Craft, 86, Richmond died Sunday, June 3, 2007. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, with the Rev. A.B. Walker, Bethany Baptist Church, Ottawa, and Elder Willie Graham, Kansas City, Mo., officiating.

She was born May 11, 1921, at Hartville, Mo., to Clarence and Rema (Oliver) Farley.

She lived at Hartville, Mo., until she moved to Kansas City, Mo., in 1941. She moved to Ottawa in 1997.

She attended schools at Hartville.

She was a member of Faith Mission Church, Kansas City, Mo. She served as a church mother for many years.

She worked as a cake decorator at the lunch counter at a Woolworth Department Store, Kansas City, Mo., for 18 years in the 1950s and 1960s.

She married Roscoe Lee Duncan at Hartville, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1967.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Louise Collins, Ottawa; a grandson, Leonard M. Collins; a great-granddaughter, Jordan Collins, Ottawa; great-grandsons, Isaac Collins and Aaron Collins, both of Ottawa; brothers, Eugene Farley, and his wife, Pat, Kansas City, Kan., Frank Farley, Kansas City, Mo., and Ray Farley, and his wife, Earline, Kansas City, Kan.; sister, Ceola Funston, Kansas City, Kan.; niece, Henrietta Huddleston, Las Vegas, Nev., and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Edward Farley, Vernon Farley, Clarence Farley Jr. and Rudell Farley; sisters, Irene Farley and Jewell Farley; an infant brother; and an infant sister.

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Friends may pay their respects after 1 p.m. Thursday at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends from noon Friday to the service hour.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Craft Great-grandchildren's Education Fund in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St. Ottawa KS 66067.

GARY LEE MOSHER

Gary Lee Mosher, 64, Ottawa, died Sunday, June 10, 2007, at the Olathe Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 10, 1942, at Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Charles Edgar and Nettie Louise (Bemus) Mosher.

He lived in the Ottawa and Centropolis area for the past eight years, moving from Bartlesville, Okla., where he had lived since 1974.

He graduated from Grand Island High School in Grand Island, Neb., in 1960. He attended Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, S.D., from 1960 to 1962; and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn., from 1962 to 1964.

He graduated from the University of Nebraska in Omaha in 1968 with a doctorate of medicine and completed his internship and residency in anesthesiology from 1968 to 1971 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

He was an anesthesiologist for Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla., from 1974 to retirement in 1990. He owned and operated Woman Lake Lodge in Ontario, Canada, from 1990 to 1998.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1974, earning the rank of major and receiving the National Defense Service Medal. His tour included Okinawa, Japan.

He married Mary Crowley June 10, 1984, in Bartlesville, Okla. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and William Harrison, Bartlesville, Okla.; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Trinidy Roecker, Bartlesville; a daughter, Lana D'Arco, Manalapan, N.J.; a son, Keith Mosher, Hurst, Texas; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.

Friends may pay respects after 10 a.m. today to the service hour at the funeral home, where the family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ransom Memorial Hospital and sent in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, KS 66067.

VERDA MAE DYER

POMONA -- Verda Mae Dyer, 84, Pomona, died Sunday, June 10, 2007, at Village Manor Nursing Home, Ottawa.

She was born Feb. 6, 1923, at St. Louis, Okla., to George and Flora (Carlton) Clour.

She lived in Pomona since 1945, moving from Wichita.

She graduated from St. Louis High School in St. Louis, Okla., in 1941.

She was a homemaker and worked as a riveter for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita during World War II in the early 1940s. She also helped milk cows on the family dairy farm for many years and was a cook at Appanoose Elementary School in the mid-1960s.

She was a member of the Appanoose Baptist Church and American Baptist Women.

She married Lawrence Dyer Aug. 11, 1945, in Winfield. He preceded her in death May 10, 2002.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Treva Turner; and three brothers, Bernard Clour, Bill Clour and Don Clour.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Barbara Dyer, Pomona; a daughter, Linda Dyer, Oskaloosa; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Don Kiehl, Pomona; a daughter, Patricia Griffin, Pomona; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Appanoose Baptist Church.

Friends may pay their respects after 11 a.m. Wednesday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Appanoose Baptist Church and sent in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, KS 66067.

DR. JOHN EDWARD CAMPBELL

Dr. John Edward Campbell, Ph.D., 67, died June 1, 2007, in an automobile accident near Iowa City, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Virginia, and their three children; Douglas (Vicki) Campbell and Daniel (Kelli) Campbell of Urbandale, Iowa, and Deanna (Bruce) Mankle of Clive, Iowa; six grandchildren; mother-in-law, LaVern Walters of California, Mo.; one sister, Charlene McAuley, Wellsville; two nephews, Mike (Bev) McAuley and Pat (Debbie) McAuley of Wellsville, and one niece, Charnell (Keith) Gray of Hutchinson.

Services were Wednesday, June 6, at West Des Moines Christian Church with Westover Funeral home in charge of the arrangements. Burial was in GlendaleCemeteryin Des Moines, Iowa. Memorials can be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

BETTY LOU (HARMAN) WIARD

Betty Lou (Harman) Wiard, 79, Wellsville, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa.

She was born Oct. 11, 1927, at Kansas City, Kan., to Arthur W. and Ethel May (Tracy) Harman.

She grew up in Kansas City, Kan., and attended school at Wyandotte High School.

She enjoyed shopping with her daughters, writing poetry, traveling with her husband Albert and spending time with her family.

She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church for many years. She also was a member of the Dizzy Doers (EHU) and was a Sunny Side 4-H Leader.

She was a homemaker.

She married Albert F. Wiard Sept. 15, 1946, at Bonner Springs. They shared more than 60 years of marriage. He survives.

Survivors also include a son, Daniel A. Wiard, Wellsville; daughters, Linda Samsel, and her husband, Ron, Wellsville, Janet Sessions, and her husband, Lance, Wellsville, and Melanie Jaklevich, and her husband, Paul, Spring Hill; a sister, Eleanor Thomas, Kansas City, Kan.; an aunt, Marjorie Pace, Plant City, Fla.; grandchildren, Troy, Lisa, Erica, Erin, Amber, Drew, Greg, Sean and Nathan; and great-grandchildren, Gage, Tyler, Brianna, Sterling, Holly, Emma, Danielle, Scott and Will.

Burial will be after services at the Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville.

The family will meet with friends from 9 a.m. Saturday until the service time.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Wellsville Manor and in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa KS 66067.
