DALE WAYNE CARUTHERS

Dale Wayne Caruthers, 81, Baldwin City, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at the Baldwin Healthcare and Rehab Facility, Baldwin City. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City.

The family will meet with friends before the service at 1 p.m. at the church.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the First United Methodist Church or to the Baldwin City Fire Department in care of the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City KS 66006.

KATHRYN MARILEE ARCHER

Kathryn Marilee Archer, 85, Garnett, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Garnett.

She was born Nov. 19, 1921, at Eureka Springs, Ark., to Keith and Frances Evans.

She graduated from Garnett High School.

She married Robert W. Archer Oct. 29, 1940. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Diane Doran, Garnett, and Farell Ping, Holiday Island, Ark.; a son, Douglass Archer, Garnett; a sister, Alberta Boots, Bartlesville, Okla.; a brother, Keith Evans, Iola; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at Garnett Cemetery.

Family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Services, Garnett.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, Garnett, and Cottey College/PEO Sisterhood in care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Services, P.O. Box 408, Garnett KS 66032.

HAROLD 'NED' BETHELL

Harold "Ned" Bethell, 64, of Williamsburg passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at the Olathe Medical Center.

He was born March 20, 1943, at Ottawa, to Harold "Guy" and Doris (Sloan) Bethell, rural Williamsburg. Throughout his school years he helped his family on the farm as well as an uncle and various neighbors.

He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1961, and attended Washburn University, Topeka, for one year.

His love for the farm took over and he came home entering into the business for himself. Ned spent his entire life enjoying all aspects of farm life. An activity he employed quite well was using his dozer to clear land and build ponds. Ned was competent using the welder and torch to meet his needs.

Ned married Ila Jean Cannady September 1, 1963. Ila was reared in the Princeton community. The Lord blessed the Bethells with two sons: Ricky Dale and Jeff.

In addition to farming, Ned enjoyed restoring old tractors, fishing with his father-in-law, teasing people and riding horses with his grandchildren. His draft horses also were fun experiences for him.

The Bethels faithfully attended the Peniel Bible Church of Waverly for many years. One said, "Ned is a wonderful ray of sunshine among us." This was true.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and son, Ricky Dale.

Survivors include his wife, Ila Jean of the home; his son, Jeff Bethell of Melvern; four granddaughters, Kimberly, Emily, Haylea and Kristie; a grandson, Triston; a brother, Doug Bethell and his wife, Kim, of Leawood; a sister, Dianne Lewis and her husband, Ron, of Madison, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Peniel Bible Church at Waverly. Interment will follow at the WoodlawnCemeteryat Pomona.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Peniel Bible Church or to the Ned Bethell Memorial Fund and may be sent to the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa, KS 66067.

CARL EDMOND RUSSELL

Carl Edmond Russell, 32, Garnett, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett.

He was born April 27, 1975, at Des Moines, Iowa, to Virgil Russell and April (Findley) Baasch.

He graduated from Olathe North High School.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles and his friends, but his greatest joy was his family.

He worked as a carpenter and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 714.

He married Krystal Wilson Oct. 10, 2003, at Ottawa. She survives.

Survivors also include a son, Wesley Russell, of the home; a daughter, Madison Russell, of the home; a brother, Jeremiah Russell, Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Kelly Russell, Overland Park; a grandmother, Evelyn Russell, Des Moines, Iowa; his mother, April Baasch, and her husband, Butch, Ottawa; his father, Virgil Russell, Gardner; a niece, Abby Russell; and nephews, Jonathon Russell and David Russell; and many close friends that Carl chose as family.

Burial will be at the Richmond Cemetery.

Family will meet with friends after the services at the Richmond Community Center.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Russell Children's Fund in care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, P.O. Box 408, Garnett KS 66032.

Frances Estelle Schmoe

Frances Estelle Schmoe, 88, Ottawa, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at the Village Manor Nursing Home, Ottawa.

She was born Sept. 21, 1919, at Talmage, to Ralph and Myrtle (Cress) Cooley.

She lived in the Lawrence area until moving to Ottawa in 1952.

She graduated from St. George High School in 1937 and from Grand Island Business College in Grand Island, Neb., in 1939.

She was a homemaker and a child care provider for many children over the years.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School for more than 30 years; a longtime member of Warren Black Post No. 60, American Legion Auxiliary, and served as president for 20 years; and worked as an election poll worker for many years.

She married Gerald Millbern in 1940. They later divorced. She married Floyd Schmoe Feb. 21, 1954, at Ottawa. He survives of the home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Verl Cooley; a brother, Joe Cooley; a brother, Oliver Cooley; a sister, Pauline Ballentine; a sister, Helen Walker; and a grandson, Danny Millbern.

Survivors include a son, Gary Millbern, and his wife, Donna, Toronto, Kan.; a son, Roger Millbern and his wife, Ginger, Ottawa; a son, Ronald Schmoe, Freeport, Texas; a son, David Schmoe, and his wife, Karen, Edgerton; a sister, Ruth Cramer, Manhattan; a sister, Elizabeth Price, and her husband, Ralph, Norco, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, with the Rev. Mark Halford officiating.

Friends may pay their respects after 9 a.m. Monday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Memorial contributions may be made to Warren Black Post No. 60, American Legion Auxiliary, in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, KS 66067.

EMMA LOU SULLINS FREY

Emma Lou Sullins Frey, 99, of Ottawa passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at the Ottawa Retirement Village in Ottawa.

She was born June 28, 1908, at Blue Mound, the daughter of Charles Perry Knight, Sr. and Lily Jane (Atherton) Knight. She grew up and attended schools at Blue Mound, graduating from the Blue Mound High School in 1926. She attended Pittsburg State Teachers College for a year and several summers.

She taught rural school in Anderson County for two years; taught two years in Blue Mound Elementary School; five years at Parker and a year in De Soto. She taught second grade in 1947 and 1948 at Lincoln Elementary School in Ottawa and later was a substitute teacher in Ottawa for many years.

On June 28, 1936, she was united in marriage to Albert Ervin Sullins in Parker. They shared more than 28 years of marriage before the death of her husband on December 25, 1964. She later married the Rev. George L. Frey Sr. on March 28, 1987, in Shawnee Mission. They shared more than six years of marriage before the death of her husband on June 5, 1993.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a brother, the Rev. Charles P. Knight Jr.; and two stepsons, Joseph L. Frey and Michael David Frey.

Survivors include four stepdaughters, Mary Hartley and her husband, Ray, of Paradise, Texas, Linda Mills and her husband, Virgil, of Olathe, Connie Tschantz and her husband, Tom, of Waverly, and Karen Harris and her husband, Jim, of Apple Valley, Calif.; two stepsons, George Lynn Frey Jr, and his wife, Joyce, of Hulbert, Okla., and Jim Star and his wife, Flo, of Waverly; 25 step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; many step-great-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Diana Sue Steanson and Jane Wolf; and a nephew, Don Knight.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the HighlandCemeteryin Ottawa.

Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, is in charge of arrangements.

BALDWIN CITY -- Dale W. Caruthers, 81, Baldwin City, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at the Baldwin Healthcare and Rehab, Baldwin City.

Arrangements will be announced by Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City.

ELIZABETH AUGUSTA (EIKERMAN) COLE

Elizabeth Augusta (Eikerman) Cole, 90, Ottawa, passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007 at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka.

She was born on Sept. 9, 1917 in Fowler, the daughter of William Thomas and Maria (Augusta) Eikerman. She grew up in Fowler and graduated from Fowler High School in 1936. She attended Emporia State University, Emporia.

On Aug. 22, 1937, she was united in marriage to Dale John Cole at Meade. They were privileged to share more than 55 years of married life together before Dale passed away on Oct. 27, 1992.

Elizabeth was a cosmetologist in Ottawa for more than 30 years retiring in 1996.

She was a life long member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa where she was the choir director for many years.

Elizabeth enjoyed sewing and playing cards with her girlfriends. She had a strong awareness of vitamin supplements which she took much pride in using and sharing with her friends and family. Most of all, she loved playing the piano and singing at her church and at her families activities, especially the holidays.

Mrs. Cole is survived by three sons, Thomas Dale Cole, and his wife, Carol, Shell Knob, Mo., Philip Edwin Cole, and his wife, Coralee, Topeka, and Randall Marion Cole, and his wife, Pamela, of Hoyt; one sister, Ida Marrs, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Angela, Amy, Kelly, Cameron, Chris, Shawndee and Stanton; 16 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Shelby, Grace M., Michael, Megan, Hannah, Daniel, Preston, Alexis, Grace C., Ethan, Conlan, Hutson, Corynn, Abigayle and Cole.

She was preceded in death by parents; her husband Dale; four brothers, Leo, Homer, Gerhart and Edgar Eikerman; and one sister, Alma Eikerman.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa. Inurnment will be scheduled at a later date. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at the Faith Lutheran Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church Music Dept. and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa KS 66067.

ROYCE ARLAND MYERS

Royce Arland Myers, 86, died Sept. 29, 2007. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Sunland Village East Mesa Verde Room, 2615 South Farnsworth Drive, Mesa, Ariz.

He was born in Miami County, Kansas, April 16, 1921, to R.W. and Fredonia Myers.

He was a veteran of the U.S. military.

He married NeEva Hollinger. She survives.

Survivors also include daughters, Pamela Heathman, Mesa, Ariz., and Dee Power, Lawrence; sisters, Aileen Hartpence, Lawrence, and Bernadine Broers, Baldwin City; brothers, Wendell Myers, Bonny Lake, Wash., and Gale Myers, Lexington, Ky; and a grandson.

Mariposa Gardens and Funeral Care, 400 South Power Rd, Mesa, Ariz., is in charge of arrangements.
