Richard D. Cain
LYONS - Richard D. Cain, 88, died Feb. 12, 2000, at Lyons District Hospital.
He was born Feb. 18, 1911, at Lyons, the son of John Henry and Daile Hartford Cain. A Lyons resident and lifetime Rice County resident, he was a farmer and dairyman.
He belonged to First Christian Church, Lyons.
On April 11, 1935, he married
Ruth Louise McFerren at Lyons. She died Dec. 6, 1997.
Survivors include: five sons, Gene, Kinsley, Larry, Lyons, David, Longview, Texas, Donald, Toms River, N.J., and Gregory, Houston; a daughter, Phyllis Gaston, Langdon; two brothers, John Henry, Bartlesville, Okla., and Marion, Wichita; two sisters, Elizabeth Hart, Tucson, Ariz., and Mary Alice Phillips, Joplin, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ginger Louise Cain; and a brother, Prentice.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Lyons, with the Rev. Tom Eastman presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons. Burial will be in Lyons Municipal Cemetery.

Nadene Elouise Owens Blattner
MIDWAY, Ga. - Nadene Elouise Owens Blattner, 81, died Feb. 9, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Savannah, Ga.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse.
Orville Allen Roberts
NEAL - Orville Allen Roberts, 82, died Feb. 11, 2000, at Greenwood County Hospital, Eureka.
He was born July 7, 1917, at Toronto, the son of Walter Alvin and Ora Rebecca Adkins Roberts. He attended Fancy District Country School. A longtime resident of the Neal and Toronto communities, he was a farmer.
On Aug. 4, 1941, he married
Lois Adair Chambers at Eureka. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Glen, Sterling; two daughters, Nancy Dubas, Fayetteville, Ga., and Janice Hughes, Willis, Texas; a sister, Thelma Fitch, Eureka; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Adair Roberts.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Kelley Funeral Home, Eureka, with the Rev. Reta Joy Johnson presiding. Burial will be in Toronto Cemetery.

Janice Joann Walker Mendenhall
AUGUSTA - Janice Joann Walker Mendenhall, 48, died Feb. 12, 2000.
An Augusta resident, formerly of Hutchinson, she was a certified medical assistant.
Survivors include: a son, Don, Hutchinson; two daughters, Tonya Hicks, Bartlesville, Okla., and Angela Crow, Hutchinson; father, Lester Walker, Wichita; mother, Anna Genter, of the home; five brothers, William Walker, Wichita, Leslie Walker, El Dorado, Michael Walker, Newton, Gary Walker, Bedford Heights, Ohio, and Charles Genter Jr., Leon; three sisters, Linda McHone, Mulvane, Cindy Johnson, Rose Hill, and Leanna Ehler, Augusta; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lakecrest Bible Baptist Church, Augusta. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.

Elsie Pierce Young
DODGE CITY - Elsie Pierce Young, 90, died Feb. 13, 2000, at Western Plains Regional Hospital, Dodge City.
She was born July 9, 1909, at Bucklin, the daughter of Dick and Nellie Fetter Pierce. A Dodge City resident since 1927, moving from Haskell County, she was a retired beautician and homemaker.
She attended First Christian Church, Dodge City.
On Sept. 1, 1949, she married
Howard A. Young at Tucumcari, N.M. He died April 23, 1997.
Survivors include: two nephews and a niece.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, with the Rev. Larry Williams presiding. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Burkhart Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.

Edna E. Zedren
GARFIELD - Edna E. Zedren, 87, died Feb. 12, 2000, at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City.
She was born June 25, 1912, at Springfield, Mass., the daughter of Per Albert and Hilma Simonson Zedren. A former Garfield resident, she was a retired teacher.
She belonged to Garfield Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: a sister, Augusta Stewert, Shields.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Garfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Lohmeyer presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at McKillip Funeral Home, Kinsley.

Arthur Thomas Cole
LIBERAL - Arthur Thomas Cole, 89, died Feb. 8, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.
He was born July 17, 1910, at Marietta, Ohio, the son of Edwin Chase and Rosa Lee McLaughlin Cole. He worked for Pure Oil Co. and Halliburton Services, both at Mount Pleasant, Mich. He was transferred to Borger, Texas, and southwest Kansas, retiring in 1973 after 32 years of service in the oil fields.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church, Liberal Chapter No. 104 Order of the Eastern Star, was a 50 year member of Fargo Masonic Lodge No. 300 A.F. & A.M., a life member of Royal Arch Masons and Liberal Commandery No. 55, the Liberal Pancake Campers Club, AARP, was a charter member of Great Plains Locksmith Association and served in the National Guard for three years.
On Jan. 27, 1937, he married
Luella A. Zingery at Mount Pleasant. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Arthur Thomas Jr., Derby, and David William, Olathe; four daughters, Patricia Ann DeVoss, Wichita, Karen Kay Malcom, Haysville, Susan Jean Clanton, Minneapolis, and Katherine Louise Finlay, Shawnee; a brother, Robert Lee, Marietta; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Fulton; and three sisters, Helen Sprague, Jeanette Frith and Frances Hune.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kitch Funeral Home Chapel, Liberal, with Pastor Philip Shull presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the family present to greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery, Liberal.

Iva Irene Baker
LAKIN - Iva Irene Baker, 84, died Feb. 9, 2000, at Stevens County Hospital, Hugoton.
She was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Beaver County, Okla., the daughter of Thomas N. and Carrie Igo Frisby. She graduated from Sublette High School in 1933. A resident of Lakin, Holcomb and Sublette, she was a school teacher and a former appraiser and manager of the credit union at Lakin.
She belonged to First Presbyterian Church, Lakin, was a former democratic chairperson for Kearny County, was a 4-H leader for several years in Holcomb and helped organize the First Presbyterian Church, Holcomb.
On Aug. 31, 1936, she married
Carl Albert Baker. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: a son, Gary, Hugoton; three daughters, Judy Satterfield, Emporia, Janice Sim, Leawood, and Jane Allen, Ardmore, Okla.; a brother, Thomas Frisby, Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Esther Purdy, Los Angeles; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Herman Frisby; three sisters, Lennie Fisk, Opal Johnson and Alice Jacobs; and a granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Lakin, with Pastor Juanita Wiseman presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses, with the family present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette.
